Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)
Chapter 216: People Can’t Keep Their Mouth Off Happy Family
Angel was at the ranch, having just finished attending to the animals. She was now busy discussing the arrival of a new batch of pigs with Dante, who had been helping her manage the ranch.
The morning had been fairly busy, but Angel didn’t mind. Taking care of the animals was something she genuinely enjoyed, and she was already looking forward to welcoming the new pigs and settling them into their new home.
While she and Dante were discussing the arrangements, they heard the sound of a horse approaching.
Angel turned towards the entrance and spotted her grandmother, Paula, riding into the ranch. She had just returned from a rodeo, and judging by the mud covering her horse, she had quite the ride.
Dante immediately went over to welcome his mother as she climbed down from the horse.
"Welcome back, Mother."
Paula greeted her son before handing him the reins. Dante led the horse towards the stable, intending to give it a proper bath and clean off the mud before allowing it to rest.
Angel, however, remained where she was, watching her grandmother.
Something wasn’t right.
Paula’s expression was unusually troubled, and that alone was enough to catch Angel’s attention.
Naturally, being the playful granddaughter she was, Angel couldn’t resist teasing her.
"What’s wrong, Ma Paula? Your wife kicked you out of the bedroom again?"
Paula turned towards her granddaughter, giving her a look that suggested she wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
"Angel, you are taking over the ranch, and I am giving you 50 percent of the Del Rosario estate."
Angel’s smile slowly faded as she tried to process what she had just heard.
For a moment, she simply stared at her grandmother, wondering whether she had heard correctly. Paula had just announced that she intended to hand over half of the Del Rosario estate to her, and she had said it so casually that Angel almost wondered if they were discussing something as ordinary as feeding horses.
Why would her grandmother suddenly decide to give her so much?
"Why are you giving me that much?" Angel asked, unable to hide her confusion.
Paula let out a frustrated sigh, looking as though she had been waiting for someone to ask her that question.
"Can you believe what I’ve been hearing around town?" she complained. "I don’t like it when people make my family a topic of discussion."
Angel raised an eyebrow, waiting for her grandmother to explain what had upset her so much.
"Just because your wife makes more money than you, that doesn’t mean they have the right to call you a housewife or give you all those other absurd names," Paula continued, her irritation becoming more obvious. "People seem to think that because April earns more than you, you are somehow less important."
Angel listened to her grandmother’s complaints before a small smile returned to her face.
"I don’t care."
Paula stared at her.
"Why don’t you care? The town is looking down on you!"
Her granddaughter’s calm response seemed to frustrate her even more. Paula had been hearing people talk about Angel and April’s marriage, and she was tired of the disrespect directed at her granddaughter simply because her wife earned more money.
To Paula, it was ridiculous. Angel was a Del Rosario, a member of a prominent family that had worked hard to build its wealth and reputation. She was also the granddaughter who had taken an interest in the ranch and was preparing to take over its management.
Yet people were reducing her to nothing more than a housewife because her wife made more money.
Paula couldn’t stand it.
Angel, however, seemed completely unbothered by the entire situation.
"I don’t mind being called a housewife. In fact, I love it."
She said it with such a genuine smile that Paula momentarily fell silent.
"I get to do the things I love, take care of the horses and other animals, and go fishing with the boat my wife bought for me. I still get to make it home in time to prepare dinner for my wife, and I love it. That is the life I have always wanted."
There was no embarrassment in Angel’s voice, nor did she seem interested in defending herself against people who had decided to judge her life.
She was happy, and that was all that mattered to her.
Taking care of the ranch gave her something to look forward to every day. She enjoyed spending time with the animals, learning more about the work she had grown to love, and knowing that she could return home to her wife and daughter when the day was over.
She didn’t need a luxurious office or a business empire to feel successful. She already had a life that made her happy, and she wasn’t willing to trade it for someone else’s idea of success.
Paula studied her granddaughter for a moment, still struggling to understand how she could remain so calm when people were speaking about her that way.
"You are not bothered by the fact that April makes more money than you?" she asked.
Angel chuckled.
"No. If I want to make more money than April, trust me, there are plenty of ways I could do that. But I’m not after that wealth."
She paused briefly, looking at her grandmother with a warm smile.
"I just want a family that I can sleep and wake up to, make breakfast or dinner for, go on dates with, and take our child to fun parks. That’s the life I want, so don’t give me your wealth. You can give it to your children instead."
Paula remained quiet as Angel continued speaking, her expression softening with every word.
"My wealth is April and our children."
Angel meant every word.
Her childhood had taught her a lesson she would never forget. She had grown up watching an Alpha mother who valued wealth more than her family, an Omega mother who cried every day while yearning for love, and a child who desperately wanted her parents’ affection.
She knew what it felt like to want the love and attention that should have come naturally from having a family.
Money could buy comfort, property, and countless other things, but it couldn’t guarantee the happiness that came from having people who genuinely loved you.
Angel had finally found the affection she had yearned for as a child. She had April, their daughter, and another baby on the way. She had a home where she could be herself, a wife who loved her, and a family she could return to at the end of every day.
Why would she trade any of that for more money?
If people in town wanted to call her a housewife, they were free to do so. She wasn’t going to waste her time trying to change their opinions when she was already living the life she had always wanted.
The Alpha was perfectly happy in her little world, and nobody’s opinion could change that.
"Okay, I think I have to go and pick Lucy May up from the twins, and then we’ll both head to the market. See you, Ma Paula."
With that, Angel prepared to leave, seemingly having forgotten that her grandmother had just offered her half of the Del Rosario estate.
Paula watched as her granddaughter walked away, unable to stop the smile that spread across her face.
Angel had grown into a woman who understood what mattered most to her, and Paula couldn’t help feeling proud of the person she had become.
If her granddaughter was happy with the life she had chosen, then Paula had no reason to worry about what anyone else had to say.
