Famous Among Top Surgeons in the 90s
Chapter 2575: The Mistake Lies Here
"Shh, shh, he doesn’t know." Xie Wanying told the two of them to lower their voices and pointed at Dai Nanhui, who was still sitting in his seat.
You found out the problem! Pan Shihua and Lin Hao screamed in their hearts. In their view, this Student Xie actually snuck along like a little thief to eavesdrop.
"I’ll go over and ask what’s going on." Xie Wanying said, and walked over herself to check on Li Yaxi.
"Hey, Yingying—" the other two chased after her out of the room.
Hearing Dai Ronghong leave, the unmoving Li Yaxi, who had been sitting in her seat, suddenly heard a voice say: "Ya Xi, tell me what’s going on with your mom."
It was Dr. Xie.
Li Yaxi snapped her head up, a spark of light reigniting in her eyes: "Dr. Xie, how do you know about my mom?"
"I previously interned at Beidou Third Hospital, and once ran into your mom there for her prenatal check-up." Xie Wanying sat down in front of her and said seriously.
That day, Mother Yaxi argued with another doctor, then switched over to Teacher Liu Li’s clinic. Several obstetrics attendings discussed it privately; their gut feeling was that Mother Yaxi’s pregnancy was high-risk.
As doctors, even if they’ve argued with a patient, deep down they still hope the patient will be okay. No doctor wishes death on a patient.
Hearing her say this, Li Yaxi grew deeply anxious: "What should we do, Dr. Xie? My mom and dad won’t listen to me. They think I’m trying to kill their baby."
"Is your mom still having her prenatal check-ups in Doctor Liu Li’s clinic now?" Xie Wanying asked.
Li Yaxi hurriedly rummaged in her backpack, found a slip of paper and handed it to her: "This is the phone number the doctor left for me at the last prenatal visit. She seemed to have tried calling my dad before, but he ignored her. I think what she said was right—she wanted my mom to go see a professor in obstetrics."
In a general obstetrics clinic, the doctors responsible for routine prenatal care are mostly young physicians who can’t handle complex, difficult cases. When they encounter special cases, they’ll inform the pregnant woman to transfer to another service, or, in emergencies, send her straight to the inpatient department through a fast track.
"Where I probably went wrong was—" Li Yaxi’s face showed her discomfort.
Her parents had their own network of doctors; choosing which specialists to see was their freedom, and she simply had no say. And because she trusted that the doctors her parents knew must be very professional, she stopped interfering in the matter.
The problem was, after today’s conversation with Aunt Dai, she suddenly realized: maybe something about this isn’t quite right?
Aunt Dai is a famous doctor, but Aunt Dai is an ICU doctor, not an obstetrician, right?
"Medicine is divided into specialties for a reason." Xie Wanying acknowledged the other’s concern.
If it’s an obstetrics issue, of course you should consult an obstetrician for expert advice—what are you doing asking doctors from other specialties? The strange thing is, even non-medical people understand this principle. So why is Senior Dai claiming she’s better than the obstetricians? Just because that obstetrician was young and could be looked down on?
The other classmates stood nearby listening. Classmate Lin Hao thought Student Xie was being overly zealous, actually daring to get involved again in this family’s messy business. If he could, he’d drag Student Xie away.
Wei Shangquan glanced at Sherlock Holmes Student Pan to see what he thought.
Classmate Pan Shihua was better at spotting clues in the details, and stopped Lin Hao from fussing around: "If Yingying wants to get involved, there must be a reason."
There was a reason. Teacher Liu Li was the cousin of her mentor, Teacher Tan, and had helped her before. If something major happened to Mother Yaxi, Doctor Liu Li, as the doctor in charge of her prenatal care, would be held accountable. So once she heard there was a problem, she had to come over and find out exactly what was going on.
