As they spoke, Sister Hua had Xiao Lu bring out a tureen of duck and bamboo shoot soup.

Gu Fei saw Second Young Master Zhu still standing there nervously and quickly gestured. "Second Young Master Zhu, please sit."

Only then did Second Young Master Zhu take his seat. The moment he sat down, he saw Xiao Yu glaring fiercely at him from across the table.

Second Young Master Zhu was instantly on pins and needles. He had no idea how he’d managed to offend the Young Master Heir in the brief moment they’d met.

Neither Young Master Zhou nor Young Master Zhu missed Xiao Yu’s glare. Young Master Zhou understood perfectly. ’It’s your own fault, Second Young Master, for being so handsome and still unmarried.’

Young Master Zhu’s eyes darted, and he laughed heartily. "This brother of mine is already engaged and will be marrying soon. But he’s still a bit immature, which has my family worried. That’s why I’ve brought him out to get some experience."

Xiao Yu snorted lightly, his expression softening slightly.

Gu Fei served Xiao Yu a bowl of rice and set it in front of him. "You must be hungry. Go on and eat."

Xiao Yu looked at the dishes on the table. "Which ones did you make?"

Gu Fei pointed to the stir-fried pork with chili peppers, the red-braised bream, and the beef with fiery peppers. "I made these. They’re a little spicy, though. I didn’t know you were coming, otherwise I would have made some milder dishes."

Xiao Yu picked up some of the stir-fried pork with his chopsticks and raised an eyebrow. "It’s passable. The flavor is just so-so, I suppose."

Stone shot him a look from the next table. ’The Young Master Heir, honestly. Can’t he ever say something nice?’

Afraid she wasn’t being a good hostess, Gu Fei asked Xiao Yu, "Would you like some wine?"

Xiao Yu waved his hand. "No need. I don’t care for it."

’His father, the Prince, is the one who can’t go a meal without wine.’

Gu Fei remembered she had made cherry juice that day and still had some left. She got up, brought it over, and set it in front of Xiao Yu.

Seeing he was the only one at the table with the drink, Xiao Yu’s mood brightened. He obligingly took a sip. "Tastes good."

Sister Hua quickly stir-fried a few more dishes, serving some to their table and the rest to Stone and Zhuzi’s.

After they’d been eating for a while, Xiao Yu suddenly tossed a token to Gu Fei. "I’ll be away for some time," he said in a low voice.

"If anyone dares to give you trouble, just go to the government office and find Chen Zhubo."

Gu Fei glanced at the token. "This... I shouldn’t need it. No one’s giving me any trouble right now."

Xiao Yu said impatiently, "Just take it!"

’What if someone bullies her while I’m away?’

Gu Fei had no choice but to take the token and slip it into her sleeve pocket. "Where are you headed, Young Master Heir?"

’If he was headed toward West Mountain County or Hedong County, she intended to give him a warning.’

Xiao Yu’s brow furrowed slightly. "Pirates are causing trouble along the coast. My father, the Prince, has ordered me to lead troops and eliminate them."

Gu Fei’s brow furrowed as well. This was the era when the pirates first began to appear. For the next several hundred years, they would be a constant scourge on the coastal regions.

She couldn’t help but look at Xiao Yu. "Be careful, then."

Xiao Yu suddenly grinned at her. "Don’t worry. I don’t even bat an eye at a few petty pirates."

Thinking about how Xiao Yu was about to leave for battle, Gu Fei quickly added more food to his bowl with her chopsticks. ’A man who defends his home and country... hmm, he should eat more.’

Xiao Yu ate very quickly, wolfing down several large bowls of rice in no time.

When Xiao Yu put down his chopsticks, the others at the table also put theirs down with a collective sigh of relief. ’Sigh, even though we want to get on the Young Master Heir’s good side, eating a meal with him is just too much pressure.’

Knowing their cue, they all tactfully and quickly took their leave.

Xiao Yu paced around the shop for a moment. "That Blood Drop of yours—" ’Now that I’m heading off to war, I really want to test if this thing is as miraculous as Uncle Ma claimed.’
