Farming Family's Pocket Dimension: A Charmed Little Lady Comes to Farm
Chapter 380: A Bizarre Family
At their table, Zhaodi’s face was bright red. She whispered, "Mother, you... you can’t do this—"
Granny Guo looked completely unconcerned. Even with everyone staring, she wasn’t the least bit embarrassed. She reached out again, tore off a large piece of chicken, and stuffed it inside her tunic.
Ju Hua looked like she was on the verge of tears. It wasn’t often she got to eat a good meal, and she’d barely had two bites. "How can you do that? Does anyone else get to eat? Your hands are filthy!"
Hearing this, Gu Fei turned to look at Granny Guo’s hands.
The hands were dark and gaunt, like a pair of chicken claws. Her fingernails, which looked like they hadn’t been cut in ages, were long and sharp, the undersides caked with black grime.
Gu Fei quickly looked away. ’Can’t look. If I keep looking, I won’t be able to eat.’
Ju Hua’s mother, Taohua, glanced at the Aunt and pulled on Ju Hua’s sleeve. "Alright, that’s enough. Not another word."
The Aunt’s face was ashen. ’This Zhaodi’s mother is utterly shameless!’
’She’s the one embarrassing my family!’
The Aunt didn’t want to make a scene and ruin her younger brother’s happy occasion, so she forced herself to endure it.
Just then, Mrs. Chen came over to smooth things over. "It’s fine, it’s fine! Everyone, please eat your fill. We still have more chicken and duck. We’ll just bring out another serving."
A moment later, a new crispy duck and a roast chicken were placed on the table.
Granny Guo was incredibly fast. The dishes had barely been set down when she snatched the entire roast chicken and started stuffing it inside her tunic.
Gu Fei, who had just turned her head, saw this and her eyes went wide.
’Isn’t that chicken greasy? Shoving it in her tunic just like that... Good heavens, what a piece of work this Zhaodi’s mother is.’
After stuffing it in, creating a large bulge on her chest, Granny Guo grinned at the table. "This one hasn’t been touched. It’d be a waste to eat it now. I’ll take it home. You all can eat the one we already started on."
The Aunt could not bear it any longer. She slammed her chopsticks down on the table. Suppressing her rage, she whispered harshly, "Zhaodi, take your parents and your brother and go home!"
Zhaodi’s face was flushed crimson. She stood up, walked over to her mother, and tugged on her sleeve, calling out meekly, "Mother, let’s head back for now."
Granny Guo shook her hand away. "I’m not leaving! Why would I? I’ve barely had a few bites!" As she spoke, she flashed a set of large, yellow teeth.
Gu Fei caught an unfortunate glimpse and this time, she really did almost throw up.
’There’s a difference between being poor and being filthy.’
’Some people are poor, but they keep their homes tidy and their appearance neat. People like that won’t stay poor for long.’
’Because they’re diligent. Diligence might not make you rich, but at the very least, it can keep you fed and warm.’
’But some people are poor, lazy, and filthy. They’re a truly hopeless case.’
Gu Fei hadn’t wanted to get involved. These were her Aunt’s in-laws, and if she interfered, her Aunt would lose face.
’But how could anyone eat while sitting at a table with someone like that?’
It was a joyous occasion; the hosts would feel terrible if their guests couldn’t even eat properly.
Gu Fei stood up and tugged on her aunt’s arm. "Aunt, come eat at this table."
Then she called to the others, "Everyone, come sit over here. There’s another table with empty seats."
Ju Hua was the first to dash over, grabbing a chair to sit next to Gu Fei. The Aunt’s husband wasn’t at their table; he was sitting with Gu Zhang.
Seeing Gu Fei come to get her, the Aunt naturally had to oblige her niece, so she got up and followed.
Taohua, who was already fed up, pulled her husband, Youde, and they grabbed their chairs, bowls, and chopsticks and moved to another table.
Zhaodi’s husband, Yougen, his face flushed deep red, also stood up, taking their young son, Gangzi, with him to another table.
Soon, only Zhaodi and her family of four remained at the table.
Zhaodi’s face went pale as she watched everyone leave. She glanced at her mother, her own mouth working for a moment, but in the end, she said nothing. She just sat down again and quietly began to eat.
