Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2537: We’ve Known Each Other for a Year
Little Clementine kept staring at Sylvan Cheney, while Sylvan was also watching the mother and daughter.
Jasmine Yale’s words were devoid of warmth, even somewhat cold.
After a long silence, Sylvan slowly spoke, "Little Clementine resembles you a lot, she’ll probably look a lot like you when she grows up."
"Naturally, Little Clementine will certainly resemble me."
"The gold bracelet I bought for her, why isn’t she wearing it?" Sylvan noticed Little Clementine’s empty wrist.
"She doesn’t like it."
"Oh." Sylvan nodded in understanding, "Is it hard for you to take care of Little Clementine alone?"
"Not hard at all, it’s quite good, if you weren’t around."
Sylvan slightly closed his eyes, the sunset’s light fell on his cold, sharp features, casting a faint glow over him.
He remained silent for a while, unsure of how to speak.
After a pause, he said, "It’s summer again, time flies, we’ve known each other for a year."
Jasmine Yale’s heart skipped a beat, she didn’t expect Sylvan to say these things, most men don’t care much for past romances and relationships, especially rational, mature men.
"It’s been a year." She responded perfunctorily.
Sylvan suddenly laughed softly, "A year ago, Little Clementine wasn’t born yet."
During this time, he’s often had a strange dream, where he stands before a little girl holding a lollipop, the little girl looks at him eagerly and reaches out to take the lollipop.
The little girl in his dream looks a lot like Little Clementine, a lot like her, he wonders if it’s Little Clementine grown up.
Today he brought a lollipop to charm Little Clementine, and she was indeed very happy.
"President, in another year your child with Miss Janus will be quite grown too. Time goes by year after year, quickly, there’s no need to be so sentimental. You seem more sorrowful than me, a woman. President, you just said after today you won’t come to see Little Clementine anymore, I hope you keep your word."
"I know."
"Hmm." Jasmine Yale said, "I should be heading home."
"Jasmine Yale." Sylvan called out to her, "What’s so good about the finance world? Why must you immerse yourself in it?"
"It’s just a job, you don’t need to involve yourself. I’ve been in this circle for a long time, and I haven’t become as you say, unbearable or fallen, don’t project your thoughts onto me. Remember one thing, you’re married, and since you’re married, control yourself, don’t harm others and yourself."
"Your words are rather blunt."
"Not as hurtful as yours."
Jasmine Yale held Little Clementine, unwilling to exchange more words with Sylvan.
However, Little Clementine looked at Sylvan eagerly, insisting on being held.
Sylvan reached out, "Let me hold her one more time."
He opened his arms, and Little Clementine followed, opening her little hands, very smart, grinning widely.
Jasmine hesitated for a moment, ultimately remaining silent.
Sylvan took Little Clementine into his arms, fed her another bite of the lollipop.
Little Clementine was very happy, and played merrily with Sylvan, at times snuggling into Sylvan’s neck, at times clawing at Sylvan’s shirt, never stopping.
Her hat fell off, her scarf fell off too, yet she kept playing with Sylvan, deliberately playing hide and seek with him.
Jasmine Yale lifted her head, her gaze falling on Sylvan.
As the sun set, his figure merged with the dense trees of the park, forming an enduring painting.
Not seeing each other for a while, there seemed to be a faint fatigue in his eyes, even a blue stubble appeared on his chin.
