Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2606: The Whole Family Is Here...
Her feet were still clad in slippers she had brought back from the manor, and as the intoxicating effect of the alcohol took hold, she found herself somewhat dazed, her vision turning hazy.
Will Caddel supported her all the way. At first, she remained quiet, occasionally mumbling a few words, but gradually, she started to ramble.
"This summer, I wanted to go to the countryside to watch fireflies, but summer has passed, and I didn’t find the time..."
"The stars twinkle in the sky, and the fireflies flit around in the air, it must be beautiful..."
"Summer has gone, can winter be far behind? Maple Mountain... the boardwalk... white snow... when it snows, I want to go back for a stroll... but I don’t really want to go back... no home, no hometown..."
"When I was first adopted as a child, I liked to stand foolishly by the window, standing the entire day without getting tired. Several times, the servants at home thought I was dim-witted..." Jasmine Yale laughed, "Being simple-minded would be nice, without desires, so simple and pure, no one would hurt you, you could live in your own world, silly but happy..."
"But I’m not simple-minded; I’m a mother. I have to take good care of my daughter, keeping her joyful... she’s teething... soon she’ll be calling me ’mom’..."
Jasmine Yale continued rambling on, and Will Caddel tightened his grip on her hand.
She kept speaking mindlessly, on and on, until Will Caddel guided her to the room’s door.
With a beep, Will Caddel opened the door.
"Jasmine, can you manage alone? Never mind, skip the bath, go to bed." Will Caddel carried her to the bed.
Jasmine Yale was already exhausted, left with only the energy for incoherent chatter.
"When did you drink so much?" Will Caddel frowned.
He tucked her in snugly and placed a cup of plain water on her bedside.
He didn’t dare turn off the light, nor did he leave immediately. Instead, he sat by the bed, watching her fall asleep.
Yet, she wasn’t sleepy. She fidgeted on the bed like a child, tugging at the blanket, even nibbling at its corners.
"Nineteen years... nineteen years..." she murmured.
Will Caddel didn’t understand her words, his brows furrowing, his face clear and handsome under the light.
His slender hand pressed down the blanket, ensuring she didn’t uncover it.
"I want a stable home..." she whispered in her sleep, "No fear, no bullying, peaceful and joyful... I’ll raise my baby to be chubby and healthy... I’ll learn to cook, making lots of delicious pastries... and every time I return home, the whole family will be there... that would be the best..."
Will Caddel held her hand: "You will have it."
Jasmine Yale kept her eyes closed, the wall light casting a warm glow over her fair, rosy face, alluring and tender, truly beautiful. That soft light, like a thin veil, blurred and dreamy.
Jasmine Yale’s eyelashes were long, and even with her eyes closed, she appeared extraordinarily serene and sweet, shedding the rigidity and seriousness of the workplace, leaving only a childlike innocence.
Will Caddel rarely saw this side of Jasmine Yale and couldn’t help but glance at her more.
This Jasmine Yale was unlike her at any other time.
She fussed for a while, then stopped, muttering under her breath, the words inaudible.
Will Caddel leaned closer, wanting to hear her.
Jasmine Yale fell silent, merely smacking her lips, her eyelids showing signs of weariness.
"Rest well." Will Caddel tucked the blanket around her, "Good night."
