Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna
Chapter 582: On An Errand
For a moment Laila didn’t move and then she blinked.
"Fuck, she’s damned. Silver’s pack members won’t let her hear the end of this. She’s broken a record that has stood since the beginning of time by having triplets without the usual twin boys." Laila muttered, realizing the gravity of the situation, before she asked, "Was this written in the prophecy?"
Gilbert shook his head. "No, and that’s the problem. The Silver pack believes the twin boys are the reason we are a superior pack, because the powers of Vaelor moved through them. And you know the saying that the firstborn carries those powers, and her firstborn are girls. The boy might survive, but he doesn’t have a twin brother, so it complicates things."
Gilbert couldn’t help but feel sorry for the Luna, for the Silver pack held their beliefs so strongly that this might turn bad if not handled carefully. "Will you help her, Serrano?" He asked earnestly.
Laila had never been trusted with a secret or asked to help with something that needed to be kept quiet. No one had ever placed that kind of trust in her before, and the fact that Gilbert had chosen her over anyone else left her unable to explain the feeling stirring inside her.
"I will help as much as I can." She straightened her blouse and reached for her car keys, her usual bite returning to her voice. "But if one word of this leaks, Rodrigo, it won’t be the pack I’m worried about. It’ll be whoever is stupid enough to open their mouth. What should I do first?"
"Buy whatever you think the babies need," Gilbert said, and Laila swallowed nervously before admitting her dilemma. "I don’t know much about babies of what they need. I’d have to ask the sales assistant for help figuring out what to buy."
Gilbert picked up his phone from his desk and wiggled it in front of her. "You can use this. Do your research," he told her with a smile.
"If I get anything wrong, you’ll take the blame," she grumbled, taking her phone out and leaving before his impossibly handsome face tempted her into wanting another kiss. The last one had left her craving more, and she could still feel the effect of it between her thighs.
Gilbert chuckled, and for the first time since the delivery chaos, the heaviness in his chest eased a little.
"And, Serrano, don’t let anyone find out from you. Be careful."

Laila made her way past the curious bystanders in the healing house, avoiding Sebastian’s grandmother to get to her errand as soon as possible, as she had been told Viola was still asleep and the clothes needed to be ready before they left the healing house.
Laila drove to the mall she usually visited to shop, and she belatedly realized she should have gone to another one where she wasn’t known. However, she was relieved to learn there was such a thing as unisex clothes, and she decided she would shop mostly from that section just to be safe.
The she-wolf was bouncing with elation at the fact that she was helping a friend and that she was fitting into a circle, for on her way Tess called, asking if the news about their friend being in labor was true.
"You bet, darling. Vee is now a mother, and the little devils are finally out in the world." Laila said to the she-wolf, who was far across the land in their pack.
They had all formed a friendship that Laila treasured more than anything, and she had always called Viola’s unborn babies little devils because of how they constantly rolled and kicked inside their mother’s womb, leaving Viola nauseous at the most inconvenient times of the day. And to think there were three of those little devils!
"Oh my, I’ll get my ass there tomorrow. What do the boys look like? I bet they are the usual Kade male twins, silver hair and eyes." Tess laughed in excitement, and over the phone Laila could hear her telling her mate about it and how they needed to travel to Silver for the baby shower.
Laila was very tempted to burst out the news of the gender and the change, but she held it back, saying to the she-wolf, "How about you find it out when you come? I gotta go, girl, I have some gifts to prepare for our Luna." She ended the call after a few more words and stepped out of her car into the snowy streets of the winter land.
It took Laila longer than expected to shop for the baby clothes, and by the time she had finally picked everything she needed from the list she had put together online after her research, and she headed to the counter to pay with her card as she didn’t take the doc’s.
At the counter, the sales assistant noticed the supplies Laila had picked out: a huge pack of diapers, unisex baby clothes, and other baby necessities. Smiling at Laila, who was one of the mall’s regular and valued customers, the young she-wolf began scanning the items.
"Good day, Miss Serrano," she greeted her. "You didn’t call for assistance today, ma’am. Are these for the Supreme Luna? I heard she’s in labor," the she-wolf probed, eager to stay on Laila’s good side and, more importantly, find out whether their Luna had given birth and if the usual grand celebration for the arrival of the first new-generation Alpha would take place this time around.
"I could help you pick out a better outfit for the male baby. We have a new collection in the boys’ section, and—"
Laila immediately understood what the she-wolf was after. She wanted confirmation that Viola had given birth, preferably from someone close to the Luna herself.
In the past, Laila wouldn’t bother entertaining conversations with she-wolves beneath her rank, but lately, she had been making an effort to smile at them and give them tips for helping her shop. Right now, however, she decided she might have to return to her old ways to ward off unnecessary questions to keep Viola’s babies secret until it was officially announced to the public.
