Chapter 413 - 412: Extra 8: Meteor Shower 1
Chapter 413: Chapter 412: Extra 8: Meteor Shower 1
San San pretended not to see his failed attempt to look cool, huffing haughtily. "Well, duh. Now we just need to find Liu Liu."
"Wow, is Liu Liu really that good at hiding?"
Hiding downstairs, Liu Liu heard Yi Yi’s praise and wagged his tail smugly.
He had chosen this spot carefully. He just knew they wouldn’t find him so easily.
After that, San San searched the second and third floors, as well as the top floor, over and over before finally returning to the first.
She had mostly overlooked the first floor. After searching for a long time, with only five minutes left on the clock, she finally spotted a pair of big, green eyes under the very sofa she had been lying on at the start.
"Liu Liu, you were hiding here?!"
San San never imagined Liu Liu would be hiding in plain sight.
If he hadn’t opened his eyes, she never would have spotted him. It was pitch-black under the sofa.
Caught, Liu Liu blinked with a hint of regret. "Big Sister, how did you see me?"
He had been curled up in the darkest spot under the sofa’s center. He was a Black Panther, so he should have blended in perfectly with the shadows, yet San San still saw him.
San San was smart enough not to reveal that she had spotted his glowing eyes. If she did, he might keep them closed next time, making him even harder to find. Instead, she just said mysteriously, "An expert has her secrets."
Liu Liu never did figure out why, but he was still happy to have been the last one found.
Soon, it was Fofu’s turn for the next round.
Fofu reluctantly bit his lip, holding back tears. Er Er was about to offer to take his place when San San spoke first. "Fofu, you’re a big, strong boy. You need to be brave. Don’t cry all the time. If you do, little fairies like Mommy won’t like you when you grow up."
"R-really?"
Fofu sniffled. San San nodded firmly.
Seeing this, he finally choked back his tears.
"Okay, fine, I won’t cry. I’m going to marry a little fairy when I grow up, too."
Little Fofu had already decided that someone like his mother was his ideal partner. A few months ago, he’d even declared he wanted to marry Mommy, just like Daddy. But he got a harsh scolding from Mu Tangfeng, who told him that was *his* wife. If Fofu wanted a wife, he’d have to find his own someday and was forbidden from stealing his dad’s.
His dad’s beast form was too beautiful. Fofu couldn’t possibly compete, so he had tearfully given up on the idea.
...
The little ones spent the whole afternoon playing hide-and-seek together. They had an unspoken agreement to not let Wu Wu be the first one found. Wu Wu just said he was lucky.
Indeed, perhaps fortune favors fools.
That evening, Shi Lan took the whole family camping on Ye Ming’s private island. She had heard there was going to be a meteor shower in the next couple of days.
The little ones had never seen a meteor shower. That night, they gathered around Shi Lan, their eyes wide with curiosity.
Nearby, several of the Beast Husbands were busy grilling skewers.
Her daughter sat in front of her, and nestled on either side of her legs were the five cubs in their beast forms. She patiently answered their questions, all while stroking their soft, comfortable fur.
"A meteor shower is just an astronomical phenomenon. It’s usually caused by friction when fragments from a celestial body break apart. Since so many of them streak across the sky, it looks like rain, so they call it a meteor shower."
Shi Lan didn’t know much more than that, but it was enough for the little cubs.
The little ones blinked in sudden understanding. "Oh, so that’s what it is."
"Mommy, Mommy! You said we should make a wish when we see a meteor shower. Does that mean any wish we make will come true?"
Liu Liu blinked his big, glittering green eyes, which were filled with pure curiosity and excitement.
Yi Yi’s long ears perked up, and his five tails, which had already grown in, swayed happily. He couldn’t help but retort, "Liu Liu, how could it be that magical? If it were really that powerful, the Insect Clan wouldn’t exist anymore."
Er Er pondered this, his little mouth pursed in a serious line as if he too were analyzing the feasibility of making a wish.
San San tilted her head back in her mother’s embrace to look at the quiet, starry sky. The starlight reflected in her clear, beautiful black eyes, which shone with a little girl’s pure joy. "Who cares? I’ll just make a wish when it happens and see. I’m not greedy, I’ll just wish for something simple."
Fofu seemed to have thought of something. His eyes sparkled as he clapped his hands excitedly. "A wish, a wish! For a little fairy!"
Wu Wu stared blankly at the sky with his mouth hanging open, muttering, "Big lobsters... big strawberries... big steamed buns... big cuckoo bird meat... big pastries..."
’If you’re going to wish, you should wish big.’
Surrounded by her cubs, Shi Lan listened to their childish discussion, a helpless yet blissful smile in her eyes.
She turned to look at the Beast Husbands bustling about. Through the smoke, they immediately noticed her gaze and met her eyes.
He Hanshi asked with concern, "Lanlan, are you hungry?"
He wasn’t busy at the moment; he flew back from the Capital Star every Friday morning to be with his family. Besides, Er Er was still little, and a father shouldn’t be absent from his childhood.
Mu Tangfeng, who was in the middle of preparing skewers, paused his work. "Lanlan, is something the matter?"
The once-arrogant young master had learned the duties of a Beast Husband and was conscientiously playing the part of a good father.
Ye Ming placed a few cooked skewers onto a plate, which Jiang Xia then excitedly carried over.
Yan Huoshui also brought over the washed fruit, placing it on a small table near Shi Lan. He said gently, "Lanlan, you and the cubs can have some snacks first. We don’t have many skewers ready just yet."
Seeing her Beast Husbands’ thoughtful actions, the smile in Shi Lan’s eyes grew even warmer. "Okay, thank you for your hard work. I’m not hungry yet, so don’t rush. Take your time."
Wu Wu licked his lips. "Mommy, I’m hungry."
Jiang Xia put a hand to his forehead. "You little rascal, you never stop eating. Just look how fat you’ve gotten!"
Wu Wu patted his tummy with a paw, looking aggrieved. He muttered in protest, "Not... not fat. I’m just plump."
Seeing this, Shi Lan couldn’t resist giving his soft little belly a squeeze. In his beast form, Wu Wu looked like an expanding snowball, round and puffy in the middle. The little guy’s human form was fine, though; he just had a round, chubby face, but he wasn’t overweight.
The little Pallas’s cat’s fur felt so good that she gave him another rub. Wu Wu excitedly hugged her hand and let out a contented purr.
When the other cubs saw this, they all exposed their little bellies too. Pairs of big, clear eyes stared hopefully at their mother, silently saying, ’Me too!’
Of course, Shi Lan doted on each of them in turn. ’This is pure bliss,’ she thought.
Jiang Xia watched the little cub acting cute for Shi Lan and ground his teeth jealously. ’That used to be my job, and now I have all this competition.’
’Damn it! My wife!!’
Jiang Xia was wailing internally. Just then, San San exclaimed excitedly, "Mommy, look at the sky!"
Hearing this, everyone looked up at the sky.
Shi Lan looked up. "The meteor shower is here! Quick, make a wish."
As she spoke, she quickly made a wish of her own.
Though the Beast Husbands didn’t really have any wishes to make, they looked at their wife and children and silently closed their eyes as well.
