Chapter 420: Chapter 419: Extra 15: Giving Him a Little Bear 2 (Mu Tangfeng)

Mrs. Mu’s words left a lasting impression on Shi Lan.

These were all things Mu Tangfeng had done for her.

It was true that only she could touch his head after he transformed; not even their son was allowed to jump on his head and do as he pleased.

As for the courtship dance, he had recorded a video for her a long time ago. Sometimes, late at night, Shi Lan would even ask him to dance for her again. And though he was shy, he would still boldly use the dance to express the intense love he normally didn’t dare speak of.

The little bird’s love, though hidden within his bone-deep pride, was still ardent and steadfast, slowly blooming just for her.

Shi Lan looked at the rear garden again, her mind conjuring images of a tiny Mu Tangfeng flitting between the different plant-like toys. He would tilt his head back to bask in the sun, showing off his beautiful wings, or lower his head to diligently preen his soft feathers.

She couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle and said softly, "Mom, please tell me more about Tang Feng’s childhood. I want to get to know him better."

After all these years, Shi Lan had always thought she understood Mu Tangfeng, but she was discovering it wasn’t the complete picture. Or rather, she knew more about the man he had become.

Mrs. Mu’s reasons for saying all this were much the same as Mr. Mu’s.

Fofu was a fussy, tearful child, and her son was not one to bow his head, having been spoiled into pride and arrogance since childhood. In Shi Lan’s household, her other Beast Husbands and cubs seemed to have more likable personalities.

Although Mr. and Mrs. Mu never said it aloud, they often worried that their son wasn’t favored and would be disliked by Shi Lan.

They themselves were an old married couple, but Shi Lan and their son hadn’t been together long enough. They were also approaching the seven-year itch, a time that truly tests a couple’s hearts. As parents, it was impossible not to worry.

Now, seeing Shi Lan’s attitude, Mrs. Mu felt a great sense of relief.

Lanlan was a good, loyal girl. She could tell that the bond between her and her son was still strong.

With this thought, Mrs. Mu began recounting more amusing stories about Mu Tangfeng’s childhood in the rear garden, including one time when he stole a sparrow’s nest that another bird had built there.

Shi Lan listened, her laughter incessant.

Upstairs, however, Mr. Mu was once again lecturing his son on the ways of marriage.

He and his wife had a good relationship over the years, and his position as the main husband was secure. Although Shi Lan had not chosen a final main husband, people’s hearts were hard to read and it was inevitable that she would play favorites. Mr. Mu wanted his son to fight for his place more.

As for Fofu, held in his grandfather’s arms, he was also getting an early lesson in knowledge he would need in the future.

Mu Tangfeng, like Jiang Xia, was not the studious type.

The moment he entered the study, he picked up a mechanical eye from the desk and started disassembling it.

He had a natural talent for this sort of thing. His hands moved quickly; in the blink of an eye, the mechanical eye was reduced to pieces and then restored to its original state.

Mr. Mu had been talking for a while. Seeing his son’s inattentive attitude, he grew displeased, his expression turning stern. "Feng’er, did you hear what I just said?"

Mu Tangfeng placed the mechanical eye heavily on the desk, his lips pressed into a thin line. "Dad, why do you keep saying such disheartening things? Why wouldn’t Lanlan like me?"

He had heard, in fact, but he subconsciously rejected such speculations.

Mr. Mu frowned. "How can you be so sure when it comes to matters of the heart? Even if she likes you now, what about in three years, or five? The average lifespan of a Beastman is two hundred years. How can you guarantee your wife will still like you when you’re old?"

"Think about it. When it comes to cooking and strength, you can’t compare to Admiral He and the Monarch. In terms of alluring talent, you’re no match for the Fox Clan. Even Jiang Xia is more direct and clingy than you, always speaking his mind. With your personality, what advantages do you have?"

"I... I..."

Mu Tangfeng stammered for a moment before falling silent again.

Because when he really thought about it, he truly had no advantages among the Beast Husbands.

He wanted to say that his beast form was beautiful, but after being married for so long, Mu Tangfeng could see that Shi Lan liked every beast form, especially the fluffy ones like Jiang Xia’s. He’d noticed she secretly petted him the most.

Noticing his son’s spirits plummet, Mr. Mu felt his words had been a bit harsh. He tried to backtrack, "Of course, Lanlan is a good person. She would never do something like abandon her husband and child."

Hearing this, Mu Tangfeng’s expression darkened further, and his hands, hanging by his sides, clenched into tight fists.

Although Fofu was still little and didn’t quite understand what the adults were saying, he keenly sensed the tense atmosphere in the study. His little mouth puckered, and without warning, tears began to fall.

"SOB, SOB, SOB... Daddy, Daddy, hold me."

He sobbed, his voice choked with grief, and lifted his small hands.

For once, while crying, he didn’t want his grandparents; he wanted his daddy.

Mu Tangfeng immediately took his son. He held the boy, turning his back to his father. Seemingly influenced by his son’s emotions, his own eyes reddened.

Looking at the big one and the little one before him, the grown man felt a bit helpless.

He reflected on his words for a moment. He carefully filtered his next thoughts before cautiously speaking again.

Unfortunately, Fofu couldn’t bear to listen either. His tears wouldn’t stop, and he started wailing for his "Mommy."

Mu Tangfeng also desperately wanted to see his wife at that moment.

So, using his son as an excuse, he promptly left the study. The two of them wandered downstairs and easily found his mother and Shi Lan in the rear garden.

Hearing her son’s cries from a distance, Shi Lan stood up. She looked over to see her son’s eyes were red and puffy, his eyelashes laden with teardrops. When his dark, tear-filled eyes found her, a look of dependence filled them. He reached out his hands, his little nose red, and his voice choked, "Mommy, your baby wants a hug."

Shi Lan rushed over and took her son. She was about to ask Mu Tangfeng what was wrong with the boy when she looked up at him. His eyes were also a little red, his gaze moist as he looked at her, seemingly hiding a world of worries and grievances.

Shi Lan didn’t know what had happened to him in such a short time.

She could only free one hand to take his, asking softly, "Are you okay?"

Mu Tangfeng shook his head stubbornly, swallowing the torrent of thoughts and feelings.

"I’m fine. The little one just hadn’t seen you for a bit and suddenly missed you."

As he spoke, he looked down at Fofu. The moment he was in his mother’s arms, Fofu wrapped his arms tightly around Shi Lan’s neck, burying his tear-streaked face in her shoulder. His crying, however, quickly subsided.

Mrs. Mu also walked over with concern, then glared at Mr. Mu, who had just followed them out. She seemed to understand he was involved.

Mr. Mu rubbed his nose guiltily. He glanced at his son and Fofu and asked in a gentle voice, "Is Fofu alright?"

Shi Lan’s hands were full, so she just tilted her head to press her cheek against her son’s. She shook her head slightly. "He should be fine. It’s probably his afternoon nap time, since it hasn’t been long since we finished lunch. He probably wants me to put him to sleep."

As for putting the child to sleep, it was a random affair in Shi Lan’s home, but for the most part, the fathers did it more often.
