Mo Hanyi responded within moments. “I can do it!”

He sounded incomparably certain, too.

The middle-aged Daoist couldn’t help but laugh. “To rise above Eternity, you must seek out the root of things and become an ancestor. Have you become an ancestor?”

His tone was mocking.

Mo Hanyi pointed at the dome of heaven. “If I attack, I can easily provoke a backlash from the natural order of destiny, then use it to restrict your movements and prevent you from escaping. Are you sure I can’t kill you?”

The middle-aged Daoist’s smile vanished. “In that case, you’re sure to die, too.”

Mo Hanyi laughed. “My vital source won’t dissipate, so I’ll naturally be able to recover one day. Can you say the same?”

He really was fearless, and he wasn’t lying, either. Anyone trapped within the Book of Destiny had their “true name” or equivalent portion of vital source power stripped and sealed within the book’s pages.

Given the circumstances, so long as the Book of Destiny wasn’t destroyed and Destiny’s Chosen still drew breath, he’d have no need to fear dying.

The middle-aged Daoist frowned, then said calmly, “It might be shameless to say this, but even with a backlash of destiny, you cannot touch me.”

“Chosen, please lend me the Medallion of Past Karma.” Mo Hanyi turned and clasped his fist at Su Yi. His manners were impeccable; there was nothing to criticize.

Su Yi subtly inclined his head.

Mo Hanyi raised his hand, and the Medallion of Past Karma whooshed out of Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi’s hand and into his palm. He paused to tie his long grey hair into a topknot, then took a step forward. “I don’t believe you!”

Boom!

The Medallion of Past Karma rumbled and boomed. Monstrous, blood-red radiance burst forth, and the palm-sized medallion underwent an unbelievable transformation. It was now a blood-red jade ruler.

When Mo Hanyi attacked, blinding, stingingly bright light shot out of the ruler, like a blade piercing the heavens. Its intense light dyed the heavens red.

The countless talisman markings filling the area faced an intense onslaught. Before this strike could land, clear light erupted, and countless talisman markings came pouring down like moonlight.

Boom!

Mo Hanyi’s strike dissipated on impact. It had been blocked, but the blow shook the surroundings, grinding away countless talisman markings. The entire “prison” showed signs of imminent collapse.

The middle-aged Daoist swung his sleeve, and the black seal lit up. Shockingly, it created an all-new prison. It, too, was formed out of countless mysterious talisman markings.

It was now clear to everyone that this power allowed the middle-aged Daoist to seal off the area, preventing the natural order of destiny from sensing him.

Should the prison break, destiny itself would surely be alerted, and the middle-aged Daoist would face a backlash!

“Break!” Mo Hanyi leaped, swinging his jade ruler. A blood-red light of destruction tore through the heavens, crushing the newly recondensed prison.

The middle-aged Daoist’s expression darkened, but he did as he’d done before, recondensing the prison. At the same time, he took a step forward, waved his fly whisk, and charged at Mo Hanyi.

Mo Hanyi let out a long roar, his whole body erupting with a strange, terrifying, blood-red storm. His presence and momentum changed completely, and soon, he was locked in fierce combat with the middle-aged Daoist.

Su Yi had long since moved further away. He was using the Cauldron of Fate to help his companions block the aftermath of the battle. But the aftershock was just too terrifying. It was beyond the limits of Eternity, and even working together, they felt the impact.

Even Su Yi had no choice but to use Seizing Destiny to draw on the power of a River Ancestor. He did everything at his disposal, but even then, he only barely managed to hold on. He couldn’t avoid injuries, either. If things went on like this, they’d die before Mo Hanyi and the middle-aged Daoist determined a victor!

But Su Yi disregarded all that. He was watching the battle intently. He could tell that Mo Hanyi was strong, but also that he’d been imprisoned in the Book of Destiny for far, far too long. He was giving the battle his all, but he and his opponent were at best evenly matched.

The middle-aged Daoist, conversely, fought while maintaining and rebuilding the prison. That suggested that in truth, he was considerably stronger.

“So, you were nothing but talk after all!” the middle-aged Daoist said suddenly. “Your vital source energies are severely damaged. If things go on like this, you won’t be any match for me!”

His voice was full of disdain. After some initial probing, he’d gotten a sense of his opponent’s strength. Mo Hanyi had once transcended Eternity and become an ancestor of the Dao, but not long after, he’d been badly injured, and his source energies were damaged. He wasn’t much of a threat!

But Mo Hanyi just laughed. “We’ll just have to see who dies first!”

Boom!

His whole body caught ablaze, filling the air with blood-red radiance. All of it shot into the firmament. His power was far, far greater than before. But his face paled, his skin suddenly translucent. It was as if he’d exhausted the bulk of his essence, qi, and spirit in a single move. There was no doubt about it. He’d paid a heavy price for this.

This is bad! The middle-aged Daoist looked stricken. Without hesitation, he fought with all his might.

“It’s too late. I’ve even put my life on the line. How could you possibly stop me now?” Mo Hanyi burst into laughter.

His whole body burned like fire as he walked through the air and charged with no sign of fear.

Su Yi and the others couldn’t help but look impressed. Mo Hanyi’s majesty was on full display. It was no wonder that he’d managed to cross the River of Destiny, reach the Far Shore, and duke it out with Xiao Jian.

So what if his vitality was badly damaged? So what if he was risking it all? He didn’t care in the slightest. He just laughed and spoke with the utmost calm and contemptuous pride. Who wouldn’t have been impressed?

Boom!

Even though the middle-aged Daoist gave it his all, the cage he’d placed over heaven and earth cracked and split. There wasn’t time to create a new one, either.

Because Mo Hanyi was upon him! He attacked without reservation, heedless of the severity of his injuries. He never so much as furrowed his brow!

“Madman! If things go on like this, even if you survive, you can forget about recovering your cultivation base!” the middle-aged Daoist roared in fury, his face ashen. This was the first time he’d lost his temper since he’d arrived.

“I’ll worry about that later!” Mo Hanyi said with a burst of laughter.

Boom!

What remained of the cage over heaven and earth shattered. The boundless Sea of Fate churned and boiled.

The power of the Laws appeared beneath the dome of heaven, visible to the naked eye. Heaven’s Will had been startled, and a mysterious tribulation of destiny started brewing overhead.

Throughout the Southern Sea, countless cultivators were startled. All of them gazed into the sky in horror.

In the thirty-three continents of the Eternal Heavens Domain, the cultivators of top orthodoxies felt their hair stand on end. All of them sensed the strange movements of the Laws.

Su Yi naturally sensed all of this, too, but his heart was heavy, as Mo Hanyi was risking everything.

“The backlash of destiny is upon us! You’d best not flee, you charlatan!” Mo Hanyi roared.

The middle-aged Daoist’s eyes flashed with murderous intent. “You ruined my plans. I want you dead!”

Boom!

His divine majesty rose, and with a shake of his hand, the black seal whooshed forth and injured Mo Hanyi, leaving him covered with gashes and startling wounds.

But Mo Hanyi just laughed. “You didn’t run? Excellent! You’ve got guts! I’ve finally revised my opinion of you!”

As the two combatants fought fiercely, shocking tribulation light suddenly lit up beneath the dome of heaven. This was a tribulation of destiny!

The Sea of Fate had been covered in dense tribulation clouds to begin with, but as the tribulation of destiny appeared, the formerly dense clouds collapsed with a bang and dissipated.

Immediately afterward, tribulation clouds descended from above, their radiance stinging the eyes and illuminating the entire Sea of Fate. Countless cultivators looked on in horror.

The aura of a tribulation of destiny appeared throughout the Eternal Heavens Domain—the Four Seas, Five Celestial Capitals, Six Pure Lands, and Thirty-Six Continents! All manner of strange, calamitous visions appeared throughout the Eternal Heavens Domain.

Su Yi and the others watched from outside the battlefield, so they saw and felt it most clearly.

The two River Ancestors and Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi could barely even breathe. All three of them felt chills in their hands and feet.

They’d proven their Daos in the River of Destiny and its affiliated territories. Their powers of the Grand Dao were inextricably connected to the Laws of Destiny. Thus, they felt the arrival of this tribulation most keenly, while Su Yi was barely affected. After all, his Dao had nothing to do with the River of Destiny.

This is bad! The middle-aged Daoist watched in horror. This was a backlash of the natural order of destiny. It was enough to present a lethal threat to even an expert of the Far Shore like him. Even if he survived, this would weaken his cultivation base, and his strength would plummet!

Mo Hanyi’s body stiffened. He felt instinctual terror. He didn’t even need to think to know that if the tribulation touched him, it would annihilate him instantly.

Even so, he didn’t retreat. On the contrary, he struck with even more terrifying force. He was clearly aiming for mutual destruction. His goal was to prevent the middle-aged Daoist from fleeing!

“Madman——!!” shouted the middle-aged Daoist, his face contorted with fury.

He was indeed trying to run; he had no intention of risking everything. He just hadn’t anticipated that Mo Hanyi would be so frenzied.

It was then that the tribulation descended.

The middle-aged Daoist’s hair stood on end. His soul practically left his body out of sheer panic.

Mo Hanyi just threw back his head and laughed uproariously, his heart full of delight.

But it was then that something happened that no one here had anticipated.

An old man with gray hair but youthful features appeared out of nowhere and took out a black talisman, which unfurled, covering the sky like a scroll painting to block the tribulation right in the nick of time. The black talisman covered the sky, obscuring the firmament completely.

Meanwhile, a dark-robed Daoist appeared out of nowhere in front of the middle-aged Daoist, then waved his sleeve.

Bang!

Mo Hanyi flew backward like a kite with its strings cut. Unwillingness and astonishment were written all over his face. A moment later, his already injured body split, offering no more resistance than paper window paneling. He exploded in midair, his blood pouring down like a waterfall.
