First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3087 - The Retracing Sky Zone, the Secluded Realm
The other Heavenly Sovereigns exchanged glances, then staunchly shook their heads.
Was he kidding? Even if the experts of the Far Shore had left, how could they possibly fight Su Yi on the Sea of Fate? He still had the Cauldron of Fate, a treasure that let him control the Sea of Fate’s waters!
If Su Yi worked with Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi and the two River Ancestors, the six of them would be no match for him.
“Brother Yan, we know you suffered a crushing defeat this time, and that all your plans came to naught. It’s frustrating, and you’re undoubtedly eager to turn things around,” said Heavenly Sovereign Wen. “But you can’t let your anger get the best of you, especially since it’s not like we didn’t gain anything.”
Earlier, Ling Jue of Three Purities Temple had given them each a big pile of Heavenly Sovereign-level treasures.
“That’s right. There’s no reason we can’t find another opportunity to deal with Su Yi later,” said Heavenly Sovereign Ling. “I refuse to believe that Three Purities Temple will endure in silence forever after such a massive setback!”
Heavenly Sovereign Changhen said, “Where there’s life, there’s hope. Even if the forces of the Far Shore don’t intervene, we’re still strong enough to suppress and kill Su Yi given the opportunity. Where there’s life, there’s hope.”
But his words only weighed more heavily on the other Heavenly Sovereigns’ hearts. It was true that they were strong enough to suppress and kill Su Yi, but they didn’t have many chances left!
Moreover, Su Yi had Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan, and two River Ancestors with him. Killing him would be far more troublesome now.
“The trend is already in the boy’s favor. If we don’t kill him soon, I’m afraid we won’t get another chance,” Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang said with a long sigh.
It had been just ten short years, give or take, since Su Yi had arrived on the River of Destiny. Who could have imagined that he’d already be this terrifyingly strong?
“Everyone, forgive me if my words seem cruel, but it’s too late for us to turn back!” said Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu, his eyes glinting coldly. “He’s yet to become a Heavenly Sovereign, but he already has such overwhelming power and influence. If he becomes a Heavenly Sovereign... who in the Eternal Heavens Domain will be able to oppose him? And as I’m sure you’re all aware, there’s no hope of resolving the grudge between us!”
The Heavenly Sovereigns fell silent. All of them looked grim. They were naturally fully aware of all of this. They had to kill Su Yi, and they had to do so urgently. They couldn’t afford to wait!
“Then what do you think we should do, Daoist Brother?” asked Heavenly Sovereign Wen.
Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu didn’t even pause to think. “We should find an opportunity to issue Su Yi a challenge. Let’s fight to the death in the Blackwater Celestial Capital!”
The Heavenly Sovereigns were briefly stunned, but they quickly understood. The Blackwater Celestial Capital was the Taiwu Sect’s territory. How could Su Yi possibly disregard the safety of Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan’s sect?
If they issued such a challenge, Su Yi would most likely agree to fight!
“But what if he doesn’t agree?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen furrowed his brow. “Yes, we can threaten the Taiwu Sect, but don’t forget that Su Yi can threaten our factions, too!”
Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu said gravely, “At this point, how can we concern ourselves with such things? Surely you realize that if we let Su Yi live, he’ll rip all of our sects up by the roots sooner or later?”
The Heavenly Sovereigns fell silent. That was indeed the reality of the situation. Su Yi was already a major threat to their various factions. If they didn’t act decisively and eliminate him now, they’d quickly run out of chances!
“Three Purities Temple really can’t provide any additional support?” Heavenly Sovereign Wen looked at Heavenly Sovereign E.
All of them knew that Heavenly Sovereign E’s relationship with Three Purities Temple ran deep.
Heavenly Sovereign E’s eyes flashed. “I was just about to tell you this. It’s entirely possible that we might be able to work with the Primordial Divine Court.”
The Primordial Divine Court? The Heavenly Sovereigns suddenly recalled the woman in the feather coat, the one who’d called herself an inheritor of Sovereign Venerate Yi.
She’d led away three Sovereign Corpses, all of whom had been members of the Primordial Divine Court in life.
“That aside, we can attack when Su Yi becomes a Heavenly Sovereign,” said Heavenly Sovereign E. “Given his rate of progress, I’m afraid it won’t be long until he starts planning to become a Heavenly Sovereign. As I’m sure you’re aware, the tribulation accompanying such a breakthrough is utterly enormous. If we prepare thoroughly, we might be able to snuff him out before he overcomes it!”
The Heavenly Sovereigns' spirits soared. They suddenly realized that they actually had plenty of viable methods to choose from when it came to defeating Su Yi!
“Come on, let’s find a place to discuss this further,” suggested Heavenly Sovereign Wen.
The other Heavenly Sovereigns straightforwardly agreed.
......
Meanwhile, that same day, in the upper reaches of the River of Destiny, turbulent currents coursed through a stretch of water shrouded in darkness.
This place had been a forbidden zone since the onset of the Primordial Era, a place so dangerous that not even Heavenly Sovereigns dared set foot here!
The seemingly eternal darkness enshrouding the water was actually a hidden realm, a place the Dao Ancestors of the Far Shore of Destiny called the Retracing Sky Zone.
It was also a pass leading to the Source of the River of Destiny. As dangerous as the Retracing Sky Zone was, those who wanted to see the river’s source had to pass through it.
A fierce battle was raging within the Retracing Sky Zone.
One of the combatants wore Daoist robes and a fishtail crown. He had elegant, distinctive features, and he gripped a pale jade ruler carved with the name “Supreme Purity.” This was Grandmaster Lonely Heights of Three Purities Temple, the greatest expert to arise within their ranks since the three founders themselves.
His opponent was a tall man in robes whiter than snow. He had a friendly look on his face, and his bearing was as smooth as jade. This was the legendary Little Boss of Sword Sovereign City. He gripped a sword carved with the name Small Serenities.
It had been a full hour since the battle began, and terrifying Daoist magics and incomparably dazzling sword light were already scattered throughout the Retracing Sky Zone.
This was a forbidden zone, the only route to the Source of the River of Destiny, and it was full of perils great enough to threaten the lives of Dao Ancestors. Yet now, the two combatants fought without reservation, heedless of the danger.
“How many years has it been since we last saw each other? It seems you’ve barely improved at all,” the Little Boss said with a laugh. “It’s no wonder my boss never took you all that seriously. If you can’t even beat a sword spirit like me, what right do you have to my boss’s attention?”
Even as he spoke, countless streaks of sword qi burst forth in an endless flood. Each contained unbelievable power of the Laws. All were terrifying beyond measure.
Lonely Heights swung his jade ruler, condensing one mighty magic seal after another. One by one, he blocked the incoming streaks of sword qi.
“Your boss is long gone, so why even bring him up?” Lonely Heights said calmly. “Su Yi is an unpredictable variable, and a big one at that, but he’s still a long, long way from reaching your boss’s level!
“Don’t forget that the storm brewing on the Far Shore will soon reach the River of Destiny. When that happens, how could he possibly find the opportunity to become the former Big Boss of Sword Sovereign City? There’s no way the Mountain of the Secluded Ones will tolerate that! Three Purities Temple and the other progenitor-level factions won’t tolerate it, either!”
His unhurried voice echoed clearly throughout the Retracing Sky Zone.
The Little Boss couldn’t help but laugh dryly. “So, that’s your limit, Lonely Heights. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
Boom!
The grand battle raged with renewed intensity, shaking the entire Retracing Sky Zone. The entire area was covered in the startling vestiges of their battle.
Lonely Heights’ brow suddenly furrowed, and his expression darkened. “Impressive, sword spirit. How dare you trick me like this? Get out of my way!”
He roared in fury and attacked with all his might, but the Little Boss just burst into laughter. “It’s too late! With me here, you can forget about rushing back to the Secluded Realm!”
Lonely Heights’ expression filled with murderous intent, and he attacked with even more terrifying ferocity.
A moment earlier, he had received a call for help from the Secluded Realm. It was urgent, too!
That meant that one of the Dao Ancestors of Three Purities Temple was in life-threatening danger!
Lonely Heights wasn’t stupid. He instantly realized why the Little Boss had come here to fight him. He was stalling for time, preventing him from rushing back to the Secluded Realm in time to save his sectmate!
“Sword Spirit, this is against the rules. Aren’t you afraid that I’ll give an eye for an eye?” Lonely Heights said coldly.
The Little Boss jeered, “Three Purities Temple broke the rules this time. It’s only natural that you pay the penalty for that.”
A moment later, he laughed. “But it isn’t Sword Sovereign City that’ll uphold justice and punish Three Purities Temple, but rather... the Mountain of the Secluded Ones!”
Lonely Heights furrowed his brow in confusion. Who on the Mountain of the Secluded Ones would dare to offend us by seeking justice on behalf of Sword Sovereign City?
The Little Boss felt thoroughly relaxed. “Now that you mention it, I really ought to thank Three Purities Temple for breaking the rules. Otherwise, where would we have found such an opportunity to kill a few of you ol’ charlatans? It’s been a long time since I last felt this satisfied.”
It was true, too. The Little Boss had been suppressing his hatred ever since the destruction of Sword Sovereign City.
This was not enough to alleviate his hatred, but... he’d at least vented a little of his anger!
Lonely Heights disregarded him. He’d calmed down, and as he fought, he tried to figure out just who was supporting the survivors of Sword Sovereign City.
......
The Secluded Realm was an ancient place hidden from the rest of the world. It was neither on the River of Destiny nor on the Far Shore. If you didn’t know the secret method to enter it, you had no hope of finding it, not even if you were a Dao Ancestor.
This was the base of the Mountain of the Secluded Ones. It was not, however, the Secluded Ones’ cultivation ground, and under ordinary circumstances, there weren’t many people here.
It was only when something big happened that the Secluded Ones would gather here to discuss their response.
The Secluded Ones had held a massive meeting here prior to Lonely Heights’ duel with the Big Boss. Now, they sat in small groups scattered throughout a massive hall.
The Big Boss’s heart devil sat at the center of the room, cross-legged. He was leisurely, yet his arrogance was undisguised.
Grandmaster Song Lan of Three Purities Temple was there, too!
“Let me make myself perfectly clear. Anyone who breaks the rules must die, no matter who they are!” the heart devil said slowly. “If the Mountain of the Secluded Ones refuses to uphold judgment, don’t blame me for declaring your rules worth no more than farts!”
His voice boomed throughout the hall.
The gathered Secluded Ones frowned.
