Chapter 1432: Chapter 1446: Old Man

An Ran had originally planned to donate that diamond bracelet from Mu Wanxin’s wedding.

She didn’t have many valuable things on her; on Valentine’s Day Mu Xingfeng had given her a pink diamond necklace, which she couldn’t bear to donate, and Mu Xingfeng’s mother’s bangle was even more out of the question—that was the symbol of the Mu Family’s matriarch.

After thinking it over, only that bracelet was left. Anyway, she was here as Young Master Huo’s female companion, so the value of what she donated didn’t have to be that high. Worst case, she’d just bid a high price herself and buy it back.

Later, on the way here, Huo Shaohua handed her a beautifully wrapped box and told her to donate what was inside.

When she opened it, it turned out to be another diamond bracelet. In Huo Shaohua’s words, the point of the donated item wasn’t its actual value. An Ran’s own bracelet was no worse than this one, but since it was a gift from Young Master Mu, he was afraid she might not be able to buy it back and would end up regretting it.

An Ran handed the item to the etiquette lady to register it, then followed Huo Shaohua into the venue.

Lu Yi spotted her from a distance and waved; she smiled back, then started looking around the hall for Sun Wangbei.

Reporters weren’t allowed inside the venue, so for the moment she didn’t have to worry about Sun Wangbei’s high-profile antics causing her trouble.

Sure enough, in the middle of a crowd of beauties, she found a man in a light blue suit dressed outrageously flashy.

Sun Wangbei also saw An Ran and broke out of the ring of beauties to walk over. He swept a glance at Huo Shaohua beside An Ran. "So this is the male companion little sis-in-law was talking about?"

Huo Shaohua chuckled quietly. "Young Master Sun, I’ve heard so much about you."

Back in the day, the Five Young Masters of the Imperial were people Huo Shaohua could only look up to. Even if he ran into them at some event, he wouldn’t have dared to go up and say hello.

He really hadn’t expected that he’d now be able to build connections with these people.

Sun Wangbei knew who Huo Shaohua was; he just felt that little sis-in-law was wronged, tagging along as this old man’s date.

He gave Huo Shaohua a slight nod, then kept asking her, "Second Brother didn’t tell you I came to Nan’an? Even if you’re looking for a date, you should be looking for someone like me. Going as this old man’s companion, careful it ruins your reputation at school."

Sun Wangbei’s concern wasn’t baseless; after all, there had already been rumors about An Ran clinging to rich patrons.

As the "old man" in Sun Wangbei’s mouth, Huo Shaohua lowered his head to glance at his own outfit. It wasn’t as flamboyant as Sun Wangbei’s, but it was mature and steady. Not yet forty, in this circle he really didn’t count as old.

"Pick you? Compared to you, I’d much rather play the quiet, pretty girl by President Huo’s side. Just now the reporters at the door were all long lenses and telephotos—if I showed up with you, I’d be getting doxxed online tomorrow, and if it went bad I’d probably get torn apart too."

So many people were eyeing this piece of prime meat that was Sun Wangbei; An Ran would have to be asking for trouble to bring him as her date.

Seeing An Ran and Sun Wangbei chatting happily, Huo Shaohua found an excuse and slipped away.

Not far off, a gaze was tightly wrapped around that petite figure.

An Youcai watched An Ran talking gracefully with Young Master Sun. She was so dazzling, so confident. He knew that this was the real her—bright and self-assured, just like her mother.

This An Ran was someone he had never seen once in the fifteen years she’d lived in the An Family.

Thinking back on those fifteen years at the An Family, she had always lived cautiously, just because he’d brought her into the An Family as a foster daughter.

She always kept in mind that she was a foster daughter, with no right to be presumptuous.
