Yu Chen: (III -_-)

Ji Xiaoge let out a sigh. "You also think my dad’s kind of making a big fuss over nothing, right?"

Yu Chen followed with a sigh as well. "I’m more curious about how that Xiao Island classmate interrogates people..."

"Anyway, from that day on, my dad spent several weeks totally on edge. In the end he really couldn’t take it anymore, and he actually cried while begging me to cut my hair, saying as long as I was willing to cut it he’d give me anything I wanted."

Ji Xiaoge carefully rustled her wings (there were clothes racks all around, the activity space was pretty narrow), and said with a smile, "Even though I really liked having long hair back then, I liked my dad even more, so I agreed."

"Xiaoge classmate really is so Considerate..."

"And then I made him build me a little kids’ kitchen on the terrace at home, and made him promise that every time I cooked something tasty he had to eat until he was super full!"

"..."

Yu Chen more or less got it. As the saying goes, Heaven’s way is good at Reincarnation. Even though Ji Xiaoge’s Defiant, unruly father hadn’t been punished all that harshly by the law, that Uncle Ji might already have paid a much more miserable price.

Of course, even if that’s what she was thinking, the Considerate Yu Chen naturally wouldn’t say it out loud. She just asked with a bright smile, "So, once you cut your hair, there wasn’t as much trouble anymore?"

"Mm-hmm!"

Ji Xiaoge nodded hard, sounding especially happy. "Ever since I cut it short, I haven’t run into any trouble at school, and Xiao Island stopped following me around every single day. She even went and signed up for the combat class she liked, heh heh. I was actually a little sad at the time—that was the first time she had something going on and didn’t ask me to go with her."

Yu Chen blinked her eyes a couple of times, curious. "What’s this combat thing? Is it... some kind of yoga-like activity?"

"Ah, no, I remember it’s something like..."

Ji Xiaoge tilted her head and thought for quite a while, then suddenly clapped her little hands. "Oh right! It’s Israeli special military combat, also called Israeli combat arts!"

"..."

"What’s wrong, Chenchen?"

"Nothing, it’s just that I feel like you running into less trouble after that might not only be because you cut your hair."

"Eh?"

"Let’s... let’s change the subject."

Yu Chen pressed a hand to her forehead somewhat helplessly, deciding she needed to keep her blood pressure under control.

"Mm, okay."

Ji Xiaoge pulled Yu Chen over to sit on the chairs nearby, then asked with a bright smile, "So how are things going between you and Motan?"

"Ah!?"

Yu Chen’s expression froze on the spot.

"What ’ah’?"

Ji Xiaoge happily rested her chin on Yu Chen’s shoulder, and, laughing softly by the latter’s increasingly reddened ear, said, "You two are practically bound together in the game, and Xiao Yu classmate’s also shared a lot of fun intel with me. Now it’s just the two of us here, so come on, spill it, spill it~"

Yu Chen shrank her neck back a little and turned her gaze off to the other side. "Sp... spill what..."

"What else would you spill~"

Ji Xiaoge wrapped an arm around Yu Chen’s shoulder affectionately and said in mock anger, "You definitely tell Nan Gong classmate everything! We might be new friends, but I at least count as half a bestie, right? Don’t treat me so differently!"

"We’re just Common friends... good friends... mm... really good... but not really that good..."

Yu Chen muttered, face burning red, then a sudden flash of inspiration hit and she counterattacked on the spot. "Anyway, it feels like you and that Mor have a pretty good relationship!"

Ji Xiaoge just burst out laughing and flashed a Scissor Hand. "Duh! Our relationship is super good!"

Yu Chen: "..."

Ji Xiaoge blinked twice, curious. "Why aren’t you saying anything?"

"You’re not embarrassed at all..."

Yu Chen pursed her lips a little, somewhat put out, and said in a tiny voice, "If you think there’s something going on between me and Hei Fan, then the fact you only brought Mor with you today makes this feel like... mm! A double-couple date!"

Ji Xiaoge kept laughing, shrugging. "I asked other friends to come too, but they didn’t want to."

Yu Chen: "..."

Ji Xiaoge kept blinking, still curious. "Why’d you go quiet again?"

"So you two are totally pure and innocent then?"

Yu Chen, with disbelief written all over her face, pinched Ji Xiaoge’s cheek—and because it felt nice, she pinched it a couple more times.

"For now we’re pretty pure, I guess."

Contrary to expectations, Ji Xiaoge’s words were explosive yet came out totally natural. "But later on who knows, it might drift toward not-so-innocent. That guy’s pretty interesting; I don’t dislike him at all. If I were to fall for him someday, it wouldn’t be weird, right?"

Yu Chen: "..."

To be fair, even though she’d never been the smooth-talking type, Yu Chen still felt like she’d been at a loss for words way too many times today.

And she had to admit, the Excluded Level beauty sitting next to her really wasn’t a simple character—she could say stuff like that without even blushing.

"I’ve joked around with him quite a few times. Well, normally I really don’t dare joke with guys, but Mor’s different. He’s the kind of... hmm... how do I put it, he’s really fun to tease, but you know deep down he’s not actually being teased, he’s just going along with it, which feels pretty safe."

Ji Xiaoge propped up her chin and smacked her lips lightly, speaking lazily. "And when I do something wrong he’ll call me out, in a totally blunt way. That’s actually pretty rare. Chenchen, you know my family all dote on me. My dad and Xiao Island aside, my mom’s soft and squishy most of the time too, she’ll only occasionally say a couple of words to me. Plus I’m good-looking and my personality’s pretty nice... so even if I mess up it’s easier for me to get forgiven than for other people, heh heh. But Mor doesn’t hold back when he talks to me."

Yu Chen’s expression gradually turned subtle.

"Honestly I’m kind of scared of boys. Uh, not scared exactly, just feel like I can’t really get along with them properly. But that guy..."

Ji Xiaoge shrugged, just about to continue when she suddenly froze. "Eh, Mor sent me a message earlier and I didn’t notice."

Yu Chen made a soft "eh" and asked, "Is he getting impatient waiting?"

"No, he said the Law Enforcement Force blocked off this area. Seems like there’s some sort of commotion going on. They won’t be able to come back for a while."

"Uh... it does sound a bit noisy outside. I hope nothing serious is happening?"

"No idea. Sounds like he and Hei Fan are working on a way to get back, and he told us to be careful and stay calm."

"Mm..."

"Do you want to message Motan too and ask what’s going on?"

"No need, right? Aren’t they together?"

"I mean, that’s true."

"Eh! Hei Fan just messaged me. He says it’s a bit chaotic outside, like some dangerous person’s hanging around nearby. The Law Enforcement Force have sealed off the whole area we’re in. He and Mor had gone over to the old bookstore across the street, and they got split up."

"Good grief, is Mor seriously just a walking trouble magnet?"

"Huh?"

"Nothing, nothing. What else did Motan say?"

"He said we should stay safe and try to keep within the Law Enforcement Force’s protection. He and Mor will see if they can get back; if not, we should just find a place to kill time and keep playing our own game."

"Then we keep trying on clothes?"

"Xiaoge, you should finish what you were just saying!"

"If you let me dress you up properly, I’ll keep talking~"

"You’re bullying me!"

...

A few minutes later

Real-world time PM19:51

"So what the hell is going on here?"

In a misty White Space, Motan, wearing a Black trench coat with a matching scarf hanging down on either side of his neck, licked the corner of his mouth and blew a sharp whistle.

"No idea, but it’s definitely something extremely complicated..."

Not far away, another Motan in White sportswear rubbed at his temple, his brows tightly knit.

"Holy shit!"

Facing the two of them, a pajama-clad, slipper-wearing Motan stepped out of the thin fog, staring dumbfounded at the two people in front of him who—despite being dressed differently—were identical to him in height, build, and looks. Suddenly, he collapsed onto his butt on the ground—

"Did I finally fucking lose my mind completely!?"
