From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey
Chapter 559 - 558: Encountering Li Xian Again
Su Li hadn’t run into Li Xian or Ye Xilan since the incidents with Wu Sheng and Bai Xinyue, and she hadn’t thought about them in a long time.
On the rare occasion she did, it was only to pray that Ye Xilan would keep a low profile and not come out stirring up trouble.
Her prayers seemed to have worked, because Ye Xilan hadn’t shown up. But while Ye Xilan was nowhere to be seen, Su Li had unexpectedly run into Li Xian instead.
Su Li couldn’t say whether this was a good thing or a bad thing.
But since they had met, and she’d seen him once before, they were technically acquaintances. She had to greet him.
"Hello... Uncle."
Su Li hesitated for a moment before deciding how to address Li Xian.
They were in public, so it wasn’t appropriate to address Li Xian by his official title.
"Hello." Li Xian also seemed surprised to see Su Li. A flash of astonishment crossed his eyes, and he nodded at the people with him, motioning for them to step aside.
Su Li let go of Little Tang Mo’s hand and put her arm around his shoulders instead.
Little Tang Mo had grown much taller. He was already over 1.3 meters and heading toward 1.4.
He’d shot up and slimmed down. The baby fat on his face was slowly disappearing as he was on the verge of becoming a young man.
Su Li was on summer break, but Little Tang Mo’s started a bit later; he was just waiting for his final exams.
Once Little Tang Mo took these finals, he would be graduating from elementary school. When school started again, he would be off to middle school.
Su Li knew this was coming. She was well aware that Little Tang Mo was a young genius and not like other kids, but now that his graduation day was actually here, she still felt a little unprepared.
Her Little Mo was graduating after just over two years of elementary school and was about to start middle school. She still couldn’t quite wrap her head around it.
’The main thing is, suddenly having a son who’s going to middle school... it feels a bit surreal.’
Surreal or not, Su Li had to accept it. She was in the middle of discussing which middle school Little Tang Mo should attend with his teacher and Little Tang Mo himself.
Little Tang Mo wanted to go to the middle school closest to home, but Su Li, as the adult, wanted to consider more factors.
The choice of middle school would also determine which high school he would attend later. If he could get into a school with a direct promotion program, that would be best. That was why Su Li was out today—to sort out Little Tang Mo’s middle school situation.
Since Little Tang Mo had become Mu Feng’s student, Su Li had only visited his home once. After that, she would just make snacks and other things for Little Tang Mo to bring him. They were all small tokens or treats to show her appreciation, and Mu Feng had never refused them.
Mu Haoye, on the other hand, came over for dinner at Su Li’s from time to time, saying he loved her cooking.
Now that Su Li was on summer break and had more time, she decided to visit Professor Mu Feng and ask for his advice.
But as it turned out, she had just arrived at the entrance to Professor Mu Feng’s residential complex and hadn’t even gone in yet when she ran into Li Xian.
This time, Li Xian wasn’t dressed in plain clothes like the last time they met, when he looked like an ordinary old man.
This time, he was wearing a formal suit, and his aura was different than before. He looked very imposing.
Su Li didn’t know why Li Xian was here, but since they’d run into each other and, to top it all off, made eye contact, she couldn’t just pretend she didn’t know him.
After her initial surprise, Su Li greeted him. Li Xian was surprised as well. Once his entourage had stepped aside, his gaze shifted from Su Li to Little Tang Mo.
"So this is Tang Mo?"
Li Xian asked in a gentle voice, clearly already aware of who Little Tang Mo was.
Another flicker of surprise crossed Su Li’s eyes, and she quickly nodded. "Yes."
For a moment, she couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart.
’How should I put this? Although Wu Sheng officially has no relationship with him, and I don’t really need to think of him as my future father-in-law, he is... he’s still Wu Sheng’s biological father.’
Him asking about Little Tang Mo like this still felt strange to Su Li.
But Little Tang Mo was unaware of Su Li’s inner discomfort.
He saw Su Li greet Li Xian and noticed that Li Xian seemed to know him, so he just assumed this was an elder they knew.
Little Tang Mo’s personality had more or less solidified by now: warm and full of smiles for Su Li, but cool toward everyone else.
But despite his cool demeanor, Su Li had taught him to be very polite. When it was time to address someone or greet them, he never hesitated, nor was he stingy with his smiles.
"Hello, Grandpa." As soon as Su Li replied, Little Tang Mo smiled and greeted Li Xian, even giving a polite bow.
Little Tang Mo’s reaction seemed to intrigue Li Xian. Along with surprise, there was another, indefinable emotion.
Li Xian knew about Su Li’s background, and even Tang Mo’s. He knew Tang Mo was an orphan, and for this child, Li Xian felt only sympathy, with no objections whatsoever.
Because of Tang Mo, Li Xian also approved of Su Li.
However, besides sympathy, Li Xian’s feelings toward Tang Mo were also complicated by Wu Sheng’s attitude toward the boy.
"Good... good... A good child." Li Xian gave a kindly smile and looked at Su Li again.
"Su Li, do you have a moment to talk with me?"
Li Xian had asked. ’How could she possibly say she didn’t have time? Of course not.’
Su Li nodded. "I do, I do."
After nodding, she couldn’t help but look at Little Tang Mo. Little Tang Mo glanced from Su Li to Li Xian and said, "Mom, you go talk with Grandpa. I’ll go to my teacher’s house first."
Little Tang Mo was already very familiar with Mu Feng’s home. After speaking, he bowed to Li Xian again to say goodbye. "Goodbye, Grandpa."
With that, he waved to Su Li and left.
Su Li knew, of course, that it wasn’t appropriate to bring Little Tang Mo along for a ’talk’ with Li Xian, so she didn’t stop him.
Li Xian and Su Li went into a nearby teahouse.
They were just looking for a quiet place to talk; the tea itself wasn’t the point. The teahouse owner was perceptive, quickly serving the tea before retreating and leaving them their space.
"I apologize for stopping you so impolitely," Li Xian began.
Su Li shook her head quickly. "Not at all, not at all."
"You’ve raised that child, Tang Mo, very well," Li Xian couldn’t help but comment. "I also heard about what happened to him before."
It was a major case that had captured the nation’s attention, so it was impossible for Li Xian not to have noticed it. And because of Wu Sheng, he was even more aware of the role Little Tang Mo had played.
Li Xian also hadn’t expected the young Tang Mo to be so capable.
