Chapter 634 - 633: If You Won’t Marry Her, I Will

  • Next Chapter

Listening to Wu Sheng, Su Li couldn’t help but break into a silly grin herself. After a moment, she couldn’t resist asking, "They say marriage is the graveyard of love, and then there’s the seven-year itch. After we’ve been married for a few years, will you still be this happy? Won’t you get impatient?"

"How could marriage be the graveyard of love? It should be love’s ultimate home."

Wu Sheng said this with a serious expression, then broke into a laugh. "That sounded so cheesy, but I meant it. And what’s this about a seven-year itch? I don’t know anything about that. When you’re married, your feelings only get stronger. Of course I’ll be happy. Why would I get annoyed?"

Su Li couldn’t help but laugh. After she did, she felt a little silly. She pushed Wu Sheng away as she closed the door.

"Whether it’s a graveyard or a home, we’ll find out soon enough. You can still back out now, before we’re married."

Wu Sheng had just put his things down and was about to help Su Li. Hearing her words, he couldn’t resist flicking her forehead. "Don’t say such nonsense. Quick, spit, spit, spit."

Su Li: "..."

"You already said yes, so there’s no backing out now. I won’t accept any second thoughts, not unless I’m dead," Wu Sheng said seriously.

This time, it was Su Li’s turn to get flustered. "What kind of nonsense are you talking? ’Not unless I’m dead’? Quick, spit, spit, spit."

Seeing how anxious Su Li was, Wu Sheng’s expression finally softened.

"Alright, alright, I shouldn’t have said that. Let’s both do it then. We’ll do it together, okay?"

"Fine." Su Li sighed, exasperated. In the end, she and Wu Sheng both "spat, spat, spat" together.

After they were done, they looked at each other, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

"Okay, get to the sofa. I should’ve held onto the keys and not let you open the door." With that, Wu Sheng bent down, swept Su Li directly into his arms, and sat her on the sofa.

Su Li: "..."

’If he keeps princess-carrying me like this, will I eventually become immune to it?’

"I told you I’m fine, I can walk. And you’re still carrying me..."

"It’s fine. You’re light. I could carry you all day and it wouldn’t be a problem," Wu Sheng said nonchalantly.

He then set out the breakfast before carrying Su Li over to the dining table.

Su Li took a bite and couldn’t help but say, "I’m starting to feel like you’re just looking for excuses to carry me."

Wu Sheng: "...How did you know? You saw right through me."

He then burst out laughing. "Don’t worry. After we’re married, I’ll carry you every single day. I’ll have every right to."

Su Li: "..."

Wu Sheng took a couple of bites, then suddenly sighed. "If you really think about it, there are still several months until the twelfth lunar month."

Thinking about how he’d be counting the days on his fingers from now on, Wu Sheng felt for the first time that time was passing way too slowly.

’He really wanted to marry Su Li right away.’

While Wu Sheng was lost in his calculations, Su Li couldn’t be bothered with him and changed the subject.

"I watched the news this morning. Our station aired the story from last night. You and I were on it together."

Wu Sheng nodded. "I know. I didn’t have time to watch, but I had my mom record it for me."

’Appearing on screen with Su Li was a major event that had to be commemorated.’

"You still record it every time?" Su Li asked.

Wu Sheng nodded. "Yep. Whenever you’re on, if I have the chance. I’ll save them as family heirlooms for the future, to pass down to Little Point—to our kids."

Su Li blushed. "What are you saying about kids? Have you no shame?"

’She remembered how she’d been staring, mesmerized, while watching the news earlier, and felt a little embarrassed herself.’

’Even though she knew Wu Sheng inside and out, seeing him on the news... he was just so charming.’

After breakfast, Su Li and Wu Sheng went to the hospital to check on the person they had rescued the day before.

When they arrived, they first saw Wa Wa Lian squatting by the entrance to the inpatient building, huddled up like a sulking mushroom.

Wu Sheng raised an eyebrow. ’Wa Wa Lian looks like he’s done something wrong.’

Supporting Su Li, Wu Sheng silently came up beside Wa Wa Lian and looked down at him without a word.

Wa Wa Lian, who had been in a daze, looked up and saw Wu Sheng. He jumped in fright, nearly falling flat on his rear.

"Boss, what are you doing here?"

As soon as he asked, Wa Wa Lian’s expression changed. He shot to his feet, stood at attention, and spoke with do-or-die resolve.

"Boss, I made a mistake."

Wu Sheng looked completely unsurprised. "I figured as much. Go on, what did you do wrong?"

Wa Wa Lian could only whimper inwardly at his boss’s all-knowing gaze.

It took Wa Wa Lian three minutes to finally explain everything.

It all started when the teacher, Xiao Hong, had grabbed onto him and wouldn’t let go.

Because Xiao Hong wouldn’t release her grip, Wa Wa Lian couldn’t leave. He couldn’t even go to the bathroom. Just as his face was turning beet-red from holding it in, Xiao Hong finally woke up in the morning.

The moment Xiao Hong awoke and let go, Wa Wa Lian bolted for the bathroom.

In that moment of sweet relief, Wa Wa Lian was on the verge of tears. ’He was finally free!’

Feeling refreshed and human again, Wa Wa Lian had been heading back to say his goodbyes before leaving. But on his return, he accidentally stumbled upon Xiao Hong and her fiancé.

Xiao Hong had just woken up and looked utterly haggard, while her fiancé was guilt-ridden as he spoke about their future.

"I... I’ve been... You can probably guess what happened. I’ll be honest with you, this must be a blow. I won’t force you. If you mind, we can just break up now. I won’t blame you."

Wa Wa Lian arrived just in time to hear this. He hadn’t meant to eavesdrop, but he couldn’t help but overhear.

"I... I..." The fiancé stammered, but ultimately couldn’t get any other words out.

Wa Wa Lian watched as the last trace of hope in Xiao Hong’s eyes vanished, and her entire spirit seemed to dim.

"I understand what you mean. The wedding we were planning is off. Thank you for coming to see me. You... should go."

The fiancé, his face full of guilt, didn’t say anything harsh. He just muttered an "I’m sorry" and then turned and fled.

Watching from the side, Wa Wa Lian felt his blood boil. He let out a cold snort and stepped forward, catching Xiao Hong’s swaying body as he shouted at the man’s retreating back.

"It’s not her fault! Instead of bearing this with her, you run away? What kind of man are you!"

The man paused, then spun back around, his eyes red. "It’s easy for you to talk!"

Wa Wa Lian might look young, but he was a true man of conviction. His words were firm and decisive.

"My back wouldn’t hurt whether I was standing, lying down, or kneeling! You’re disgusted by her, but I’m not! You don’t want to marry her? I’ll marry her! Don’t you come to regret this later!"

As Wa Wa Lian finished speaking, a sudden silence fell.

The man stammered "you" a few times, then scrambled away in disgrace. Xiao Hong, on the other hand, was completely stunned.

"You... you didn’t have to do that. I... I’m sad, but I don’t have any regrets, and I’m not going to give up on myself. I’m going to live my life well."

Xiao Hong paused. "But thank you, really, for sticking up for me."

Wa Wa Lian was flustered by her words. "I meant every word. I wasn’t just sticking up for you."

And just like that, Wa Wa Lian had impulsively said he would marry her, which was why he was now brooding.

After listening to the whole story, Su Li and Wu Sheng were silent for a moment. Neither of them said a word to Wa Wa Lian.

Xiao Hong was a truly good teacher. She had protected her students in her own way. It was just that in the process, she herself had been...
