From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey
Chapter 666 - 665: Self-Awareness
Su Li hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for two days and two nights. She was starving, and even more, she was desperately thirsty.
Going two days without water is worse than going two days without food. Besides the weakness, the feeling of going mad was even more unbearable.
If it weren’t for the thick glob of spit on the steamed bun, Su Li would have snatched it up and eaten it without a second thought, not caring if it was frozen solid, spoiled, or even drugged.
Everyone has the will to live, except for those who only want to die.
And Su Li wanted to live. She wanted to live more than anyone.
Unfortunately, her submission was met, unsurprisingly, with even greater humiliation.
Su Li licked her dry, cracked lips. Feeling a familiar ache in her stomach, a bitter smile touched her face.
She didn’t want a relapse of her stomach problems, so she had always been careful about her health. But in the end... her stomach was suffering all over again.
Now, her only hope was that someone would pass by, or that Wu Sheng would rescue her.
Wu Sheng... Wu Sheng...
’I can’t imagine how worried Wu Sheng must be...’
The wedding was the day after tomorrow. Su Li really didn’t want to die, and she especially didn’t want to miss her wedding... or Tang Mo...
With that, Su Li tried to rally her spirits and started grinding at the window again.
For Su Li, this day was even more grueling than the previous two.
And it was the same for Wu Sheng and Tang Mo.
Wu Sheng had already searched every possible place and investigated every possible suspect, but to no avail.
The search had extended beyond the Imperial City to the surrounding areas.
They had practically turned the Imperial City upside down, but that was just an expression. The Imperial City was too vast. Finding one person was no simple task; it was like finding a needle in a haystack, and it required time.
But time was precisely what Wu Sheng didn’t have.
No matter how agitated and tormented he felt inside, Wu Sheng could only suppress the tyrannical rage filling his heart and begin a grid search of the Imperial City with the police.
The longer Su Li was missing, the more danger she was in. For Wu Sheng, every passing minute, every passing second, felt like a knife twisting in his heart.
Wu Sheng hadn’t closed his eyes since Su Li’s disappearance, and his eyes were shot with blood.
As another day drew to a close, the emotion in Wu Sheng’s eyes was on the verge of spiraling out of control.
Once night fell, Su Li would be enduring her third night since she was taken.
The aura around Wu Sheng grew chaotic. Not even those long familiar with him dared to approach, let alone a normal person.
But regardless, the sky slowly began to darken.
After nightfall, the faint, simmering rage that had clung to Wu Sheng suddenly settled, but unfortunately, this only made him seem even more terrifying.
Having followed Wu Sheng for years, Wa Wa Lian knew him best. But seeing him now, his heart jumped, and a chill ran straight down his spine.
"Boss." Wa Wa Lian’s greeting was stiff, and a cold sweat broke out on his back.
This version of Wu Sheng was the most terrifying.
Wa Wa Lian’s heart grew colder and colder. If they couldn’t find Sister-in-law, he couldn’t even imagine what the Boss would do.
The muscles all over Wa Wa Lian’s body tensed unconsciously. He glanced up at Wu Sheng once, then quickly lowered his head, not daring to look again.
"Report," Wu Sheng said. Just one word.
"We’ve investigated the people you asked us to. For now, we haven’t seen any unusual activity."
Wa Wa Lian swallowed hard, then paused for a moment before continuing his report in an orderly fashion.
"Li Anna from the TV station shows no unusual activity. We’ve checked the people she’s been in contact with, and found nothing out of the ordinary. We still have someone watching her."
"Bai Xinyue is still abroad; she hasn’t returned. There’s no unusual activity from the Bai Family either. The Bai Family has been keeping a low profile for the past two years, nothing out of place."
"The Ge family has been in chaos lately, but we haven’t found anything unusual there."
"Nothing unusual with Qin Shanshan either..."
Wa Wa Lian went through the latest updates one by one.
Wu Sheng listened with a blank expression. According to the latest intel, there was no unusual activity from Miao Fenghua or Su Dan; they didn’t even seem to know Su Li was missing.
Wa Wa Lian didn’t look at Wu Sheng’s expression and continued his report.
"All the intel on the people I just mentioned came from our external agents. There’s one more thing, Boss. Tang Yuanxiao is still unconscious from his injury."
"Still in a coma?" Wu Sheng finally spoke.
"Yes, still in a coma. He hit his head, so the doctors said he can’t be moved. He’s still at the hospital over there."
Wa Wa Lian shot a quick glance at Wu Sheng. "The news that he’s been in a coma since his injury has been kept from his mother, who’s already partially paralyzed. They’re afraid the shock would be too much for her."
"Mrs. Tang is in a nursing home and doesn’t have the freedom to come and go. Our guys aren’t watching her 24/7, but so far, we haven’t seen anything unusual."
Wu Sheng’s mouth was a tight line, his eyes dark and profound. He didn’t speak for a moment.
Although he didn’t want to overthink it, the timing of Tang Yuanxiao’s accident and Su Li’s disappearance was too close for comfort. For some reason, it bothered him.
He’d long been on good terms with the security guard at Su Li’s apartment complex. Wu Sheng was grateful for how the guard looked after Su Li, so he never visited empty-handed, always bringing a little liquor or some cigarettes as a thank-you.
The guard had told Wu Sheng that Tang Yuanxiao had come looking for Su Li before and had said some ridiculous things.
You could tell just how bitter Tang Yuanxiao was from his words.
With the wedding so close, Su Li had disappeared. Wu Sheng had every reason to suspect Tang Yuanxiao had done something impulsive to stop her from marrying him.
But Tang Yuanxiao had gotten injured at that exact time.
Wu Sheng didn’t know if this was just another act, so he’d kept someone monitoring Tang Yuanxiao’s condition. But as of now, Tang Yuanxiao still hadn’t woken up.
So, Tang Yuanxiao could basically be ruled out as a suspect.
If it wasn’t Tang Yuanxiao, then the pool of potential suspects who could have done this shrank even further.
Putting aside revenge as a motive, if it was someone who didn’t want Su Li to marry him and wanted to ruin the wedding, a name was on the tip of his tongue.
A dark glint flashed in Wu Sheng’s eyes as he asked directly.
"Nothing unusual from Li Kai Xuan, right?"
"No, except that he’s clearly gloating." Wa Wa Lian wanted to curl his lip in disgust.
"What about Ye Xilan?" Wu Sheng asked again. He only said a name, but he spoke it as if he wanted to grind her to dust, sending a chill through the listener.
Wa Wa Lian swallowed hard, forcing himself not to take a step back. His voice was tight as he spoke.
"We haven’t found any major holes in her story, but she’s been very active."
Tailing Ye Xilan without alerting her was a feat only someone from their special operations team could pull off.
After all, Li Xian lived with Ye Xilan. Tailing her meant, to some extent, tailing Li Xian as well.
And Li Xian wasn’t someone just anyone could tail. If they were discovered, it would be a huge problem.
Fortunately, Ye Xilan and Li Xian’s schedules rarely overlapped. Aside from sleeping at night, they were mostly separate.
When Wa Wa Lian said Ye Xilan was very active, it wasn’t an exaggeration.
For the past two days, Ye Xilan hadn’t slipped up, but she soon found out about Su Li’s disappearance through a "fortunate coincidence."
Unlike everyone else who was worried, Ye Xilan believed Su Li had finally come to her senses and known her place.
