Su Li hadn’t expected Tang Mo to cry. The moment he did, she finally came to her senses.

’I shouldn’t have said that. Putting myself in his shoes, what I just said was like twisting a knife in his heart.’

Su Li was instantly filled with regret, cursing herself for letting the confinement scramble her brain.

"Don’t cry, Little Mo. Don’t cry. Mommy isn’t... I’m not really that hungry or thirsty. I’m okay..."

Su Li struggled to comfort him.

Wu Sheng quickly steadied her. "Don’t move. It’s okay, it’s okay."

He took a deep breath and looked at Captain Zhang.

Captain Zhang immediately said, "I’ll go get some water and food..."

Before he could finish, Wa Wa Lian’s voice came from above.

"Chief, I’ll go. I’ll get some hot water and porridge."

Wa Wa Lian’s head popped into view from above for a second before he dashed off, clearly to find food.

As he left, the lingering screams of Mrs. Tang and Ye Xilan from outside instantly vanished.

Su Li, however, paid no mind to the sounds from outside, focusing only on consoling Tang Mo. "Don’t cry anymore, Little Mo."

Tang Mo raised a hand to wipe his tears, nodding furiously as he bit down hard on his lip.

He just hadn’t been able to hold it in, and the outburst of wailing had been sudden. But now that he’d cried, he felt better.

He went back to vigorously rubbing Su Li’s legs.

While Tang Mo was rubbing Su Li’s legs, Wu Sheng took off his jacket to wrap around her. Seeing this, Tang Mo started to take off his own, but Captain Zhang stopped him.

"Don’t let yourself get cold. I’m wearing plenty of layers."

Captain Zhang handed his jacket to Wu Sheng. Wu Sheng said a quick "thanks" and wasted no time in placing it under Su Li for extra padding.

By the time Tang Mo and Wu Sheng had managed to rub some warmth back into Su Li’s hands and feet, Wa Wa Lian had returned with hot water and porridge.

"Careful now. Drink slowly."

Wu Sheng blew on the water to cool it before helping Su Li drink. "One sip at a time. Don’t drink too much at once."

Su Li agreed, but she was so thirsty she wanted to gulp down all the water in one go, scalding or not. Luckily, Wu Sheng was there to watch over her.

Wu Sheng knew exactly what to do for someone in Su Li’s condition. Once she had drunk some water, eaten a little porridge, and regained a bit of her strength, he scooped her up without a word to take her to the hospital.

Leaning against Wu Sheng, Su Li felt a sense of security she had never known before. The moment that relief washed over her, she fell into a deep sleep, or perhaps a semi-conscious state.

Wu Sheng glanced down at her and frowned, his only thought to get Su Li to the hospital as quickly as possible. But as he reached the entrance, he saw Ye Xilan and Mrs. Tang shrieking.

"Wu Sheng, listen to me! It wasn’t me! I didn’t kidnap Su Li! It’s a misunderstanding, a complete misunderstanding! Don’t let them take me..."

"Don’t arrest me! I didn’t tie her up! I’m being framed!" Mrs. Tang yelled as well.

Both women were covered in a cold sweat, looking utterly wretched. The pain was so intense they were on the verge of fainting, yet they forced themselves to stay conscious.

The pain was driving them mad, but they clung to a shred of rationality.

And that was the thought that they absolutely could not be taken away by the police.

Ye Xilan knew her own status. How could she possibly be arrested? A single thought dominated her mind: she had to get Wu Sheng to forgive her, to do whatever it took to avoid being taken.

They already looked terrifying, but their shrieks made them seem like vengeful spirits.

This was especially true for Ye Xilan, whose face still bore the traces of bloody tears. When she saw Wu Sheng emerge, her screams became even more bloodcurdling.

She was unable to move; if she could have, she likely would have already crawled toward him.

Hearing her words, Wu Sheng finally stopped in his tracks.

"’Framed?’" Wu Sheng scoffed, as if he’d just heard the joke of the century.

"You, framed? I’ve suspected you for a long time. You just never slipped up, so I couldn’t find any proof. Weren’t you just asking why I’m here?"

Wu Sheng turned to look at Ye Xilan. "I followed you here, of course."

Shock and terror warred on Ye Xilan’s face.

At this point, how could she not understand?

Looking at Ye Xilan’s expression, Wu Sheng’s eyes roiled with murderous intent.

After leaving Li Xian and Ye Xilan’s home yesterday, Wu Sheng had already been fairly certain that she was the mastermind.

His reckless searching yielded nothing, so in the end, he decided to go all in and set a trap.

The news that Su Li had been found was a fabrication, all to lure the snake from its den.

The setup was risky, but it paid off. It finally provoked Ye Xilan into making a move.

Ye Xilan never would have guessed it was a setup. The moment she left her house, Wu Sheng was on her tail, along with Captain Zhang and his team.

Caught red-handed in front of everyone, how could Ye Xilan possibly deny it?

"You’ve got some nerve, planning a kidnapping and murder," Captain Zhang said, glancing at Ye Xilan with disgust. He waved a hand. "Take her away."

Ye Xilan’s face went ashen. Hearing Captain Zhang’s words, she immediately started screaming that she was innocent.

"No! I didn’t plan to kidnap and kill her! I had someone bring Su Li here, but I never intended to kill her! I never, ever thought about killing her! I just wanted to lock her up for a few days. I was going to let her go as soon as the wedding date passed."

"It’s true, I swear! I never wanted to kill Su Li! I just wanted to lock her up!"

Wu Sheng snorted, not even deigning to respond. ’It’s not just stabbing or poisoning someone that counts as murder. A method like hers is even crueler than a quick death!’

Captain Zhang and his men thought the same. Ignoring her completely, he ordered, "Take them away! Her and her accomplice!"

The accomplice, of course, was Mrs. Tang.

When they arrived, Mrs. Tang had been right there at the scene. If she wasn’t an accomplice, who else could she be?

Ye Xilan didn’t recognize Mrs. Tang, but both Wu Sheng and Captain Zhang did. They were well aware of Mrs. Tang’s character and how much she hated Su Li.

It was only natural to lump them together as accomplices.

’Wu Sheng could never have imagined Mrs. Tang was involved. He had previously assumed she lacked the means and opportunity, and had thus overlooked her. But now...’

Wu Sheng shot Mrs. Tang a cold glare. The thought of Tang Yuanxiao brought a chilling glint to his eyes, and he turned to leave.

But Mrs. Tang let out another squeal like a stuck pig.

"No, I’m not her accomplice! I’m innocent! I’m being framed! I didn’t kidnap anyone! It wasn’t me! I was just passing by and saw what happened!"

Mrs. Tang was on the verge of a complete breakdown, shouting her defense at the top of her lungs, but no one was listening.

In her panic, Mrs. Tang blurted out the whole truth.

"It’s true! I just happened to see that man tie Su Li up and bring her here! I didn’t kidnap her!"

"I’m innocent! I only saw that Su Li had been tied up! I... I..."

Mrs. Tang wanted to keep arguing her case, but then she remembered that Su Li had already been rescued. Any further denial was useless, so she had no choice but to confess.

"I saw Su Li tied up. I hate her, so I didn’t rescue her right away. I... I just wanted to take back what belongs to our Tang Family. If she had just softened up a little and agreed to my terms, I would have saved her! It’s only because she refused that..."

"I’m innocent, I really am! I didn’t kidnap Su Li! I just... the most I did was take that bag of food..."

Mrs. Tang looked deranged, her face contorting in pain as she pleaded her case.

Wu Sheng, who had already taken several steps away, abruptly spun around.

Meanwhile, Ye Xilan snapped her head up to glare at Mrs. Tang, her expression murderous.
