From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor
Chapter 1021: I Quit
Chapter 1021: Chapter 986: I Quit
This meal didn’t last very long; it ended by eight-thirty in the evening.
After they parted ways, Yan Huaiyi invited Pan Junfeng and Xu Chunliang for tea. Once the three sat down, it was clear that Yan Huaiyi was affected, as he sighed and said, “Xiaoxu… Xiaoxu… why do I feel Equatorial Capital isn’t very enthusiastic about this?”
Xu Chunliang laughed and said, “Their hands are full with projects. We see tens of billions as astronomical figures, but to them, it’s just a small investment project.”
Pan Junfeng said, “True, things have progressed to this stage, we needn’t rush. How they’ll play their cards will be clear in tomorrow’s negotiation.” He took a sip of tea and added, “By the way, why was there a sudden change in responsibility? Miss Mo has always been handling this issue.” In truth, Pan Junfeng felt as apprehensive as Yan Huaiyi; they were on the brink of signing the formal investment contract, and he fervently hoped there wouldn’t be any hiccups.
Xu Chunliang said, “Mo Han was supposed to come tonight, she’s likely been sidetracked by other arrangements.”
Yan Huaiyi said, “I have a bad feeling; you don’t think Equatorial Capital will cut down the investment, do you?”
Xu Chunliang said, “If they want to cut it down, let them cut it down.” He almost said they weren’t lacking that investment, but thought better of it.
Pan Junfeng said, “They initially approached us; besides, investment deals are rarely finalized smoothly. Everyone tries to secure their own benefits. Xiaoxu, with the formal negotiations tomorrow, we haven’t interacted with President Ren Tianye yet. Given your close friendship with Miss Mo, could you perhaps get some insights through her? Know yourself and know your enemy, and you can fight a hundred battles without danger.”
Xu Chunliang nodded. Mo Han’s behavior this time was indeed a bit unusual. No matter how busy work is, can she not spare a moment? Also, since he arrived in Nanjiang, there hasn’t been a message or call, which is vastly different from her usual proactive manner.
Mo Han slowly walked towards the top floor of Lingfeng Building, standing atop the tallest structure in Nanjiang. The night wind was strong, blowing her silky black hair aloft.
Mo Han skillfully gathered her hair into a bun, looking at the man standing at the edge of the rooftop.
The man, with grey hair and an upright figure, stood with his arms crossed, quietly gazing at the brilliantly lit city below.
Upon hearing Mo Han’s footsteps, he didn’t turn around but said softly, “Nanjiang has changed a lot.”
Mo Han said, “You’ve been away for too long.”
Even in the deep night, the man still wore sunglasses. These days, he’s been constantly reminiscing, with most of his memories filled with pain. He tries to forget the pain. After all these years, he once thought he had forgotten, but now realizes it was all in vain.
“My previous work has been completely handed over to you. I believe you’ve thoroughly understood your tasks over this period and have adapted to your role, President Ren! This is my resignation letter.”
Ren Tianye turned around and glanced at Mo Han, taking the resignation letter from her hand with an insightful look: “So young, yet possessing such talents and wisdom; the world is yours.”
Mo Han smiled and said, “You perceive everything clearly.”
Ren Tianye said, “Are you planning to make me another pawn like Luan Yuchuan?”
Mo Han shook her head, “He is a pawn, you are not. Since I’m stepping away, I won’t interfere with your decisions.”
Ren Tianye said, “What I do in the future might upset you.”
Mo Han said, “No matter what you do, I respect your choices.”
Ren Tianye said, “I will help you fulfill your wishes. From today onward, it is best if we don’t see each other.”
Mo Han smiled, “We think alike.”
Mo Han’s phone rang; it was a call from Xu Chunliang. She smiled at Ren Tianye, and he nodded.
Mo Han stepped aside to answer the call, “Director Xu, what task do you have for calling so late?”
Xu Chunliang said, “It’s quite windy on your side, are you on a mountain or a rooftop?”
Mo Han glanced around, thinking, his ears are sharp; she whispered, “Just got off a helicopter.”
Xu Chunliang sighed, “It’s nice to be wealthy. Do you have time?”
Mo Han said, “It’s quite late, isn’t it?”
“I want to talk to you about the dragon bone issue.”
Mo Han inwardly cursed, throwing out bait again; what are you up to, Xu Chunliang? Feigning concern: “Alright, twenty minutes later at Takeshige Japanese Cuisine.”
Xu Chunliang protested, “I don’t eat that stuff.”
“You’re quite picky.”
Xu Chunliang said, “Li Fatty’s Diner on San Yang Street.”
Mo Han grunted in displeasure, “Your treat!” He’s someone who never knows what romance is and doesn’t choose the setting when inviting a girl to dinner.
“Fine!”
Mo Han arrived on time at Xu Chunliang’s chosen location. The place was packed, and it took her a while to find him sitting by a low, small table.
Mo Han looked at the plastic stools with a slight frown; she shouldn’t have worn a skirt.
She adjusted her skirt from back to front before awkwardly sitting sideways. Mo Han said, “Why not sit inside?”
Xu Chunliang said, “The business is too good; there’s no room inside. I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I ordered a few dishes at random.”
Mo Han said, “I’ve already eaten. So, what’s the reason for calling me here this late?”
Xu Chunliang poured her a glass of beer as the server brought a large pot of garlic lobster. Xu Chunliang ate two with relish and said, “These are great, much better than at the Hanbi Building.”
Mo Han sneered, full of disdain.
“Why aren’t you eating?”
Mo Han said, “I’ve already eaten.”
Xu Chunliang placed a peeled lobster at her lips, “Eat it.”
Mo Han rolled her eyes at him, “I don’t want to.”
“Try it, it’s really delicious, just try it.”
Mo Han had no choice but to pick up her chopsticks to take it, but Xu Chunliang directly moved it forward, touching her lips, so Mo Han had to take it in her mouth.
Xu Chunliang said, “Looking at you, you haven’t had a man peel shrimp for you in your lifetime, have you?”
Mo Han was halfway through, initially thinking the lobster tasted good, but upon hearing this, she really wanted to spit it in his face, as if no one wanted her.
Xu Chunliang peeled another one and handed it to Mo Han, who picked up her bowl, “Put it in the bowl.”
Xu Chunliang said, “How could you be so ungrateful? I worked hard to peel shrimp for you, and you think I’m dirty.”
Mo Han said, “I’m afraid your girlfriend will misunderstand.”
Xu Chunliang said, “Since you put it that way, I really should keep some distance from you.” He stuffed the peeled shrimp into his own mouth.
Mo Han said, “You’re something else, you ask me out just to watch you eat shrimp?”
Xu Chunliang said, “How come you didn’t go tonight?”
Mo Han said, “President Luan personally hosted, what? Do you think he’s not high enough rank?”
Xu Chunliang said, “Not really, the investment in the new hospital has always been your responsibility, and now that we’re about to sign the contract, suddenly you didn’t come, and tomorrow the negotiation is with someone named Ren, who’s a stranger to us. We haven’t even met this person before. Tell me the truth, why is Equatorial Capital swapping horses on us at the last moment?”
Mo Han laughed, “Ren Tianye is the new CEO of Equatorial Capital, an overseas Chinese. He’s in a completely different league from me, you could say in Equatorial Capital, apart from President Luan, he wields the most power.”
Xu Chunliang said, “How come I’ve never heard of him before?”
Mo Han said, “Does Equatorial Capital have to report everything to you? Are you the government?”
Xu Chunliang said, “Will you be at the negotiation tomorrow?”
Mo Han shook her head, took a sip of her beer, and said, “I haven’t had the chance to tell you, I resigned.”
“What?”
Mo Han said, “Didn’t hear it clearly, did you? I’m no longer with Equatorial Capital.”
Xu Chunliang said, “Are you kidding me? How can you start something and not finish it? It was you who approached us for the hospital investment in the first place, and now at the final negotiation stage, you’re walking away, leaving it to someone else. And you just leave without a heads-up, if I hadn’t arranged to meet you tonight, would you not have planned on telling me?”
Mo Han said, “I’m sorry, resigning was my personal choice. I always felt this has little to do with your collaboration deal. I’m not that important to Equatorial Capital, and even less so to you.”
Xu Chunliang sighed, reached over to put a peeled lobster into Mo Han’s mouth; from initial resistance, Mo Han had gotten used to it by now, but the little lobsters did taste quite good.
Xu Chunliang said, “How could Luan Yuchuan bear to let you go?”
“There is no banquet that lasts forever, I can’t stay in one place for a lifetime either.”
Xu Chunliang laughed, “That’s true, doing business for you people is just a pastime.”
Mo Han looked at him coldly, “Why do I feel like your words have another meaning?”
Xu Chunliang took a napkin to wipe Mo Han’s mouth, Mo Han said, “Get lost.”
Xu Chunliang folded it and wiped her again, Mo Han, seeing his skillful folding action, angrily picked up her chopsticks to tap his head.
Xu Chunliang said, “See, what did I say, you really are like a dog that bites Lv Dongbin, not recognizing a good person. I peel shrimp for you to eat and wipe your mouth, and you still want to hit me.”
Mo Han said, “I understand your intention very well, don’t worry, the investment in the Infectious Disease Hospital won’t be a problem.”
Xu Chunliang said, “That new CEO of yours, what kind of person is he?”
“A financial talent, an old friend of President Luan, very impressive.”
Xu Chunliang said, “Nowadays, everyone claims to be a talent.”
Mo Han said, “That’s right, you’re also a young talent, the term is worthless now.”
“Can we stop hurting each other?” Xu Chunliang peeled another shrimp and stuffed it into Mo Han’s mouth.
Mo Han said, “Enough, I’m full, let me peel them for you.”
“No way, if we’re eating together, I can’t let you do any work. By the way, the main reason I got you here tonight isn’t for the hospital investment.”
Mo Han said, “What else could it be?” Actually, she had been waiting to discuss this topic, Xu Chunliang lured her out with lobster.
Xu Chunliang said, “A few days ago, I went to Weishan Lake and when passing by the Underwater City, I saw someone doing archaeology there.”
