From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor
Chapter 1050 - 1015: Someone’s Knocking
"Don’t..." Su Qing already anticipated what might happen tonight and completely gave up resisting, while Xu Chunliang had already begun to take off his clothes.
The two were in the midst of a passionate embrace when suddenly the sound of the doorbell rang out.
Su Qing whispered, "Someone’s here."
Xu Chunliang said, "Ignore it." His large hand continued to explore recklessly.
Bang bang bang, the doorbell had already turned into loud knocking.
Su Qing said, "Maybe there’s something urgent."
Xu Chunliang had no choice but to let her go.
Su Qing told him to hide in her bedroom for the time being, and she turned on the light, tidied up the hair and collar disturbed by Xu Chunliang, before going to the door. She peered through the peephole and saw two police officers standing outside.
Su Qing’s heart skipped a beat; why were police here at this time? She took a deep breath before opening the door.
The two local police officers showed her their credentials, and one of them said, "We just received a report of a burglary here."
Su Qing hurriedly denied, "No such thing happened, you must be mistaken."
"No mistake." The two had already walked in, and Su Qing couldn’t stop them even if she tried.
"Officer, I didn’t report anything, and there’s nothing wrong at my place." Su Qing desperately tried to prove that everything was normal, mainly because Xu Chunliang was still in her room, and hadn’t put on his clothes, which were still draped over the sofa arm.
One officer said, "You don’t need to be afraid, we can guarantee your safety."
Xu Chunliang, hiding in the room, heard everything clearly and felt frustrated. Damn it, since when did the police station interfere with personal matters? We’re just having a private moment. Who reported this? Which wicked person did such a despicable act?
Su Qing quickly stepped in front of her bedroom door to block it: "There’s really nothing wrong. Do you have a warrant? You can’t just barge into my home."
The two officers exchanged glances and directed their gaze at the door behind her, "Miss Su, please move aside."
Su Qing was adamant about not moving. If she moved aside, it would expose the situation, and although Xu Chunliang hadn’t committed a crime, if someone saw him in such a state hiding in her room, it would be utterly embarrassing.
Su Qing said, "You’re being ridiculous..."
One officer showed her a search warrant, "We’ve received a tip-off suspecting you’re harboring a fugitive here. Please move aside, or we will take compulsory action against you."
Su Qing said, "Are you out of your mind? I’m just staying home, there’s no fugitive here."
An officer reached out and pushed her aside, while the other rushed into the room.
Su Qing was both ashamed and angry. Now everything would be seen.
Once the two officers rushed in, they found the room empty. Su Qing followed them in, expecting an embarrassing scene with Xu Chunliang exposed, but once inside, she couldn’t see any trace of him.
The two officers searched under the bed and inside Su Qing’s wardrobe but found nothing.
Su Qing secretly breathed a sigh of relief and glanced towards the window. Could he have climbed out the window? Oh my god, this is the twenty-third floor.
The officers seemingly thought the same. One went to open the window and peeked outside but saw no one.
Su Qing was extremely worried, especially after recently seeing a video about a man climbing down a high-rise building without clothes, only to fall because of fatigue. She feared for Xu Chunliang facing the same fate. However, she was confident in Xu Chunliang’s abilities; even without clothes, he could safely land on the ground floor.
Su Qing scoffed, "Aren’t you finished yet? Do you know the importance of protecting citizens’ privacy?"
The officers searched the room thoroughly but found no sign of anyone being there. With no reason to stay further, they left, and Su Qing locked the door. She wanted to call Xu Chunliang but feared that the ringtone might draw attention. Where could he have hid?
Su Qing leaned towards the window and looked down but didn’t see Xu Chunliang. Instead, she saw the two officers downstairs, who obviously hadn’t given up yet, as they circled around the building, likely having seen the video online too.
At this moment, Su Qing’s phone rang; it was a call from Xu Chunliang. He had already slipped away.
Su Qing was a bit surprised, "What? Your clothes are still here."
Xu Chunliang said, "No worries, I took your tracksuit."
"Can you even wear it?"
Chunliang said, "No problem, it’s flexible. By the way, call the local police station and ask, see if anyone reported the police."
Su Qing said, "You mean those two officers are impostors? But I checked their badges, and there was no problem."
Su Qing eventually called the local police station, and after asking, the police station knew nothing about the matter. Su Qing couldn’t help but feel a bit scared and quickly called Xu Chunliang back.
Chunliang told her not to worry, those two officers had already gotten into a car and left. He was now following their patrol car to see if they were real or fake, but judging by the car’s license plate, it shouldn’t be fake.
Chunliang instructed the driver to follow the patrol car. Soon, they saw the patrol car enter the New City Branch. Chunliang thought inwardly that these officers weren’t disguised after all. But why were they conducting a surprise check at Su Qing’s house at this time?
Chunliang highly suspected that Su Qing’s home might have been surveilled. He thought of her father, Su Tianyu, whose mysterious disappearance had left various signs indicating he was no simple person. Every time Su Qing encountered danger, someone always came to her rescue. Chunliang had long suspected that Su Tianyu might not have gone far, or perhaps was secretly keeping an eye on his daughter in some unknown way.
Ordinary people shouldn’t be able to call the police and have them come to investigate something with just one phone call. If it really was Su Tianyu, then what is his identity?
Su Qing called again, and Chunliang told her everything was fine now. Su Qing had just called the police to inquire, and indeed those two officers had responded to a report to investigate her home.
The meticulously planned evening was ruined, and even with the thickest of skins, Chunliang felt embarrassed to visit now. If his guess was correct, merely stepping into Su Qing’s home would place him under hidden surveillance, with every move exposed.
Thinking back on his actions, Chunliang felt embarrassed himself.
Su Qing could sense his mood and softly said, "It’s too late, you should go home and rest."
Chunliang responded with a hum.
Su Qing said, "You’ve had quite a bit to drink, don’t forget to drink more water."
Chunliang asked, "Su Qing, has there been any news about your father recently?"
Su Qing paused for a while, then after a moment said, "No." She hung up the phone after speaking.
Thinking things over, Chunliang decided he should buy another house. Although his current home was big enough, living with his grandfather often made certain things inconvenient. He needed to reserve some personal space. For instance, tonight, if he had a place truly to call his own, this problem wouldn’t have existed.
From the situation gathered from Qin Zhengyang’s side, Zhai Pingqing’s investment in the Infectious Disease Hospital had already gained Secretary Wang’s approval. Zhai Pingqing promised to initially invest three billion to construct the hospital’s comprehensive ward, with more funds to follow.
This matter left Chunliang extremely displeased. His original plan was for Equatorial Capital, Mulan Group, and Blue Star Group to jointly invest in the new hospital. But now, due to Equatorial Capital halting their investment, Zhai Pingqing has taken advantage of the situation. Zhai Pingqing’s proposal is exclusive, which means his investment has a basic premise: rejecting other investments from joining. In other words, he refuses to share the pie.
The city certainly welcomes this as the more shareholders there are, the more difficult it is to manage, not to mention Kangjian Group has always had a good reputation and the strength to back it up.
Leaders at the Infectious Disease Hospital claimed to respect Chunliang’s opinions, but they couldn’t wait to secure the investment quickly, with each finding the recent developments very pleasing.
Under these circumstances, Chunliang could no longer grit and push Mulan Group and Blue Star Group into the mix—others would surely doubt his motives. What left Chunliang frustrated was that to this day, he still hadn’t figured out Zhai Pingqing’s intentions.
Zhai Pingqing’s recent engagements with the Infectious Disease Hospital had bypassed Chunliang, and Chunliang wasn’t bothered to participate.
Pan Junfeng also noticed his disheartenment. They were equally helpless about the situation, knowing Chunliang had put in considerable effort. If it weren’t for Equatorial Capital changing their plan, everything would have proceeded according to Chunliang’s plan. But now, everything’s changed. If Kangjian Group’s investment contract is settled, Zhai Pingqing will undoubtedly have more sway over the new hospital’s construction, negating much of Chunliang’s prior work.
Dean Yan Huaiyi privately expressed his concerns as well, suggesting Pan Junfeng have a good talk with Chunliang. The reason for sending Pan instead of going personally was because Yan knew his communication skills were inadequate.
Pan Junfeng took the opportunity to invite Chunliang to visit the new hospital construction site. Since Kangjian Group proposed the investment plan, Chunliang had noticeably reduced his visits to the new hospital.
Pan Junfeng and Chunliang inspected the construction site together, expressing satisfaction with the current progress and firstly acknowledging Chunliang’s efforts, saying, "Xiaoxu, without you, today wouldn’t have been possible." He and Yan Huaiyi recognized and agreed on the importance of ensuring Chunliang didn’t feel they were disregarding his contributions—they never denied Chunliang’s excellence.
Chunliang said, "Dean Pan, you’re exaggerating. The earth keeps spinning regardless of who’s around. Even if I hadn’t stepped forward back then, someone would have come out to solve the problem."
Pan Junfeng chuckled, "Xiaoxu, are you holding any grudges about Kangtai Group’s investment?"
Chunliang shook his head and said, "No grudges. They’re investing money for us, which is like timely help in a snowstorm. How could I have any grudges?"
Pan Junfeng said, "I reported the issues you raised about those few investors, but Kangjian’s stance was firm about wanting to invest alone."
Chunliang said, "Seems like they have great confidence in the new hospital."
Pan Junfeng said, "I had their investment plans reviewed many times by professionals and felt there were no issues."
Chunliang said, "Don’t you think the process has gone a little too smoothly, too perfectly?"
Pan Junfeng nodded, "I also feel everything’s been too smooth; maybe it’s really our lucky break."
