Jasper was momentarily at a loss for words after what Chloe said.

He looked at the young woman, who was grinning like a cat that got the cream, and sighed in resignation.

“That was all in the past.”

He paused. “Samson Upton’s background is unique, and he’s being specially groomed for great things. Who knows? We might end up working together in the future.”

Afraid Chloe would bring it up again, Jasper quickly changed the subject. “The experiment will be over in a few days. What are your plans after this?”

Chloe actually hadn’t thought about it.

“I want to go back with my second brother to see my dad first. After that, I’ll join my professors and do research.”

“And…”

Chloe trailed off, her round eyes suddenly fixed on Jasper.

Jasper was taken aback and couldn’t help but ask, “And what?”

A slight blush crept onto Chloe’s face. “You’re so silly. To talk to my dad about our marriage, of course.”

Jasper was stunned. He froze for a long moment, unable to process what she’d said.

“I…”

Seeing this, Chloe couldn’t help but ask, “What, you don’t want to marry me?”

Jasper shook his head. “No, no.”

Overcome with excitement, Jasper just said, “You should get some sleep.”

Chloe had rarely seen Jasper so flustered. ‘This is priceless,’ she thought, but still obediently closed her eyes.

It was the first time she had been this relaxed after four months of intense experiments, and it wasn’t long before Chloe drifted off to sleep.

But Jasper, his mind still buzzing with excitement, couldn’t sleep a wink.

He stayed up like that all the way until dawn.

When Chloe woke up the next morning, she turned to see Jasper with dark circles under his eyes, looking as if he was contemplating the very meaning of life.

Chloe: “!!!”

“You didn’t sleep all night, did you?”

Jasper: “Couldn’t shut my eyes.”

“Holy cow,” Chloe exclaimed, giving him a big thumbs-up.

Even though he hadn’t slept well, he was in incredibly high spirits.

After leisurely getting ready, the two of them headed back to work at the base.

The final wrap-up work was much more relaxed, and a lively atmosphere finally returned to the base.

The representatives from the various research institutes, who had initially been skeptical of Chloe’s leadership, now had the utmost admiration for her.

Especially since Chloe had made outstanding contributions to Project Jiuzhang.

If it weren’t for the algorithm she and Samson Upton created that broke the stalemate at the base, forget four months—they probably couldn’t have finished it even in four years.

Everyone’s attitude toward Chloe had now changed completely.

Even though she was just a young woman in her early twenties, people in their thirties and forties were now calling her “Professor Sinclair.”

Chloe didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when she heard it.

Project Jiuzhang was successfully completed half a month later. When the higher-ups outside the base heard how quickly it was finished, they were stunned.

“Is it really finished so quickly?”

The assistant nodded. “That’s right, the news came from the base. The experiment was completed today, and they’ve already brought over the results.”

“Excellent! Notify the media at once!”

Meanwhile, a massive crowd of researchers, shouldering large bags of luggage, had begun their descent from the mountain.

The path down the mountain was difficult, but fortunately, the government treated its researchers well and had sent people to help carry their belongings.

But everyone knew the conditions there were spartan. Since they never lacked for food or clothing, most people only had a single suitcase and a backpack.

Samson Upton, who was walking at the back of the group, was an exception.

He was taking all his pots and pans with him.
