Chapter 349: Chapter 196: "Farce" (Part 2)
"What do you mean, ’not a good fit’? You’re a perfect fit!" Arthur said with conviction.
Arthur then began to explain. The gathering he spoke of was no ordinary party. Just as Su Chen had suspected, it was for the scions of top-tier families—filthy rich bigwigs from the "camel families" of the Middle East and the young masters and ladies from the royal and noble houses of Europe.
Their group had been meeting for several years. They gathered for a while around this time every year, looking to network and make deals. To put it bluntly, it was a small-scale trade summit.
A thought struck Su Chen. ’Could it be that Arthur invited me to New York because he wanted me to join this little circle?’
Although Arthur didn’t know the full extent of Su Chen’s background, he was certain of one thing: Su Chen definitely had connections within Huaxia.
’Don’t tell me Arthur has his eyes on the Huaxian market?’ The thought flashed through Su Chen’s mind and grew stronger by the second.
Connecting the dots of Arthur’s recent actions, Su Chen was willing to bet his guess was pretty much on the mark.
’Tsk, tsk. None of these heirs from top financial conglomerates are simple characters.’
Su Chen couldn’t help but marvel at it. He and Arthur had only met two or three times, yet the man had already concocted such schemes. ’Looks like I still have a lot to learn.’
The party he had previously wanted to skip now piqued Su Chen’s interest. He also wanted to see what kind of game Arthur was playing.
He feigned hesitation and said, "Sigh... all right. Since you’ve put it that way, I’ll go with you and check it out."
Su Chen had originally thought they would be driving, but to his surprise, Arthur had arranged for a large, seven-passenger helicopter.
Without giving it much thought, Su Chen brought Raymond and Chen Fei with him onto the helicopter, leaving everyone else at the house.
As the helicopter flew over Manhattan, New York, Su Chen was captivated by the urban scenery below. He could admire the Statue of Liberty standing by the sea and see the various skyscrapers piercing the clouds.
Soon, Su Chen noticed the helicopter was gradually moving away from the bustling New York cityscape and asked curiously, "Arthur, where are we going now?"
"Long Island! There’s a seaside villa there. It’s our special meeting spot!"
Su Chen had learned a bit about New York the previous night. He knew that the Long Island Arthur mentioned was New York’s "backyard," a place where countless American tycoons lived, with many large villas nestled in the forests.
In terms of environment alone, Long Island was arguably the best part of New York.
Moreover, Long Island wasn’t very far from downtown New York City, and it was even closer to Manhattan. Before twenty minutes had passed, the vast forests of Long Island came into view.
Soon, the coastline also appeared. It seemed they were about to arrive, as the helicopter began to slowly descend.
About four or five minutes later, the helicopter landed steadily on a grassy lawn.
Arthur was the first to open the cabin door and step out, with Su Chen right behind him.
After getting off the helicopter, Su Chen rubbed his ears. He realized the helicopter headsets were unusually tight; they had been pinching his ears so much they ached.
"Let’s go. The others should be here by now," Arthur said, pointing to a large, uniquely designed seaside villa in the distance.
The group then walked toward the villa, chatting and laughing. But just as they reached the entrance, four masked men rushed out of the house, and each of them was holding a gun.
It was the first time Su Chen had ever witnessed such a scene. His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately suspected Arthur had set up a trap for him. He tensed up completely, and he could feel the hairs on his arms stand on end.
At that moment, Raymond and Chen Fei, who were standing behind Su Chen, moved to shield him. Raymond’s hand, in particular, went to his waist, ready to draw the golden Desert Eagle he carried at a moment’s notice.
Raymond looked at the masked men with contempt. He could tell at a glance that they weren’t professionals; their fingers weren’t even on the triggers.
He also noticed that they were all dressed exceptionally well, with diamond-encrusted, top-of-the-line watches on their wrists. This was why he hadn’t immediately drawn his weapon and fired.
Sure enough, a roar shattered the silence the next second.
"Dammit, John! And Abdullah! What the hell are you playing at? What if one of those things accidentally went off!?" Arthur yelled as he strode toward the two masked men in the lead.
Hearing this, Su Chen, who had been hiding behind Raymond, peeked out to see what was happening.
The masked men lowered their weapons, took off their masks, and said with a chuckle, "Arthur, it’s April Fools’ Day! We just wanted to give you a little surprise."
"Come on, you guys, play a better prank. If this had..." As he spoke, Arthur suddenly thought of Raymond standing next to Su Chen. A shiver went down his spine, and he quickly turned to look back at Su Chen’s group.
Seeing Raymond still in a high-alert stance, he couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath. If Raymond had counterattacked just now, John and the others probably wouldn’t have even had the chance to pull their triggers before being taken out.
Su Chen finally understood. These must be the third-, fourth-, and fifth-generation heirs Arthur had mentioned. Thinking back on their baffling actions just now, it all started to seem somewhat normal.
