Chapter 356: Chapter 198: Looks Glamorous, Merely a Sacrifice
"Raymond, arrange for some people to go to Coro, Venezuela, and set up a branch. It’ll be useful later on."
"Coro?" Raymond knew a little about the city. It was a small city near the Caribbean Sea with a population of only tens of thousands. The only reason he knew about it was its long history and many historical buildings.
"Okay, Boss. I can have the branch established within a week at most!" ’Anything Su Chen personally orders must be important.’
Raymond took the matter of this branch to heart, planning to strategize carefully and send an elite team over. He specifically chose a location by the sea, figuring there must be a demand for ships.
In just a moment, Raymond already had a rough plan forming in his mind.
......
"You’re planning to return to Shanghai?"
That evening, Arthur, John, and the others came directly to Su Chen’s place in Central Park, planning to go out and party with him that night.
The moment they walked in, they saw Su Chen’s butler and bodyguards packing things up.
"Why the rush? Aren’t you going to stay and hang out for a few more days?" Arthur was caught completely off guard by the news.
He never imagined Su Chen would be leaving after being in New York for less than two days. All the plans he had so carefully arranged that afternoon had just gone down the drain...
"No, I have things to take care of back home." Su Chen shook his head with a smile.
This wasn’t just an excuse; Su Chen really did have things to do.
He had been a bit bored that afternoon, so he’d opened the family group chat, which he hadn’t checked in a while. They were all discussing whether or not to hold a party for his dad, Su Zhuyun’s, fiftieth birthday.
Even though the birthday was still several days away, Su Chen didn’t want to get caught up in a frantic rush. Besides, there wasn’t much going on here, and that kid Arthur was constantly trying to get his attention. He figured he might as well just go back to China early.
It would mean fewer hassles and no need to put on a false front every day.
Arthur looked at Su Chen’s smiling face and opened his mouth, still wanting to drag him out to party that night. He didn’t want to miss this last chance.
Unfortunately, Su Chen turned him down flat. However, Su Chen did offer to treat them to a meal. The location was on the eightieth floor of his very own Central Park building, at one of New York’s top-ranked Michelin restaurants.
The restaurant had quite the reputation. It was run by three Michelin three-star executive chefs and was so exclusive that only building owners or their friends were qualified to dine there. It was designed to serve the hundred-plus homeowners of the Central Park tower.
Su Chen had been a little surprised when Raymond told him about it, but then he considered that any given apartment in the building was worth tens of millions of US Dollars. With that in mind, such exclusive service seemed perfectly normal.
That evening, Su Chen, John, and Abdullah had a very enjoyable dinner. The conversation flowed much more freely between them during the meal. Only Arthur felt like everything tasted like ash, and he had to force himself to look happy.
It was truly a difficult act for him to maintain.
After dinner, Su Chen saw that it was still a bit early, so he invited the three of them up to his apartment to have some tea and admire the night view of New York’s Central Park.
Surprisingly, Arthur made an excuse about having something to do and left early. Su Chen simply waved him off, telling him to take care on his way out.
"I’m just realizing you’ve got a bit of a mean streak, you know?" John said teasingly as he lounged on the sofa.
Su Chen, of course, knew what he meant. He smiled and replied, "I just don’t like inviting trouble for myself."
"Ah, if only I’d had a mind like yours back then!" John lamented with a small sigh.
Abdullah, sitting nearby, was a little lost in the conversation, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying his tea. He held his cup, taking a sip from time to time and occasionally chiming in with a word or two.
The three of them chatted until past nine, nearly ten o’clock, before John and Abdullah finally announced their departure.
As he was leaving, John made a point of telling Su Chen that he would definitely come to the airport to see him off the next day.
Seeing John’s determined expression, the corners of Su Chen’s mouth curved into a cryptic smile. Seeing this, John and Abdullah didn’t think much of it, assuming it was a happy smile at the offer to see him off.
Little did they know...
