Chapter 449 -230: What? You’re Saying It’s Treasure?

After getting settled in, Su Chen wasn’t in a hurry to check out the place where he could pan for gold. Instead, he took some time to rest properly in the ranch’s villa.

In the afternoon, he even took a leisurely soak in a hot spring. After waking up from a nap, Su Chen felt like he’d been brought back to life. His body no longer ached like it had in the morning.

“It’s great to be young. One good nap and I feel completely recharged!” Su Chen muttered to himself, stretching.

As soon as he stepped out of the villa, Su Chen saw Xiao Chen, Chen Fei, Ivan, and the others in a clearing in the distance, busy with something at a table.

“Hey, you’re up early. Why not sleep a little longer? I thought you were going to sleep until sundown!” Xiao Chen teased with a smile when he saw Su Chen come out of the house.

Seeing Su Chen approach, Chen Fei and Ivan, who were sitting to the side, quickly stood up to greet him.

Su Chen waved his hand, signaling for the two of them to get back to what they were doing. As he got closer, he saw more than a dozen weapons laid out on the table. The vast majority were AK-47s, with just four or five hunting rifles or shotguns scattered among them.

Judging by their condition, they were pretty well-maintained, looking about eighty to ninety percent new.

He picked up an AK-47 and expertly removed the magazine, finding it fully loaded. After slotting the magazine back in, Su Chen asked curiously, “What are you guys preparing for? You’re not planning to go hunting tonight, are you?”

Xiao Chen shook his head slightly. “I was chatting with Ivan earlier, and he mentioned he’s going to deliver food to the mountain patrol tonight. He’s also going to interrogate those two gold thieves. I figured I had nothing else to do tonight, so I thought I’d tag along and see what’s going on.”

“Besides… that place is a bit far from the ranch. The forest isn’t safe at night—there are plenty of wild animals out there. It’s better to bring some weapons for protection!” As he spoke, Xiao Chen brandished the AK-47 in his hand.

“Alright, let’s all go together tonight. We can also check out that gold-bearing river while we’re at it!” After speaking, Su Chen turned to Ivan, who was standing to the side, and asked, “Is there a place to practice shooting?”

Su Chen had fired guns a few times back in the country, but for a guy, how could you ever get enough?

When he’d first arrived and seen the weapons the ranch patrol carried, he’d wanted to find a chance to practice his marksmanship. It would be pretty embarrassing to go hunting later and come back empty-handed.

“Boss, the shooting range is over by the forest. We built it specifically for training,” Ivan said, immediately getting up to lead Su Chen behind the ranch’s residential area.

Su Chen slung the AK-47 over his shoulder, grabbed two boxes of ammo, and looked at Xiao Chen, who was cleaning a gun. “Brother Cheen, you coming?”

Xiao Chen hadn’t originally planned on going. After all, the ranch didn’t have any particularly good guns. Besides the AKs, which had a bit of a kick, the hunting rifles and shotguns weren’t really suitable for target practice.

But then he glanced at Ivan standing nearby, and a thought struck him. He nodded. “Alright, let’s go. I’ll join you for a bit.”

He called Chen Fei over, and they each grabbed one of the different types of weapons from the table, along with plenty of ammunition.

Following Ivan through the residential area, they came to a fence at the back. Su Chen then noticed a gate in the fence that led directly into the forest behind it.

“Good afternoon, Boss!”

Su Chen hadn’t expected someone to be patrolling the back gate. He heard the respectful greeting as soon as he stepped through.

After nodding in response, he turned his gaze to the shooting range.

The shooting range was quite large. Several dedicated shooting barricades were set up across a 300-meter clearing. There were even a number of target-like objects mounted on trees in the nearby forest.

Finding a half-meter-high barricade, Su Chen placed the ammunition on top of it. He skillfully raised the AK-47, holding it with his right hand. He looped his left hand under and around the gun, flicked off the safety, and with a quick CLICK-CLACK, deftly chambered a round.

Su Chen pressed the stock against his shoulder, put his right index finger on the trigger, and held it down. Instantly, the sound of gunfire erupted.

BANG! BANG! BANG! An entire magazine was empty in less than ten seconds.

“Awesome!” Su Chen couldn’t help but shout as he looked at a distant tree that had been riddled with holes.

The feeling was completely different from when he’d shot guns back in the country. There was a sense of unrestrained freedom, and he felt himself relax considerably.

After firing off three straight magazines, Su Chen reluctantly put down the AK-47. He turned to Xiao Chen and said, “Brother Cheen, your turn. I’m going to take a break!”

Even though the AK-47’s recoil wasn’t huge, holding down the trigger like that was still tiring. Su Chen’s left hand even felt a little numb.

Hearing this, Xiao Chen walked straight to the barricade and picked up the AK-47 Su Chen had set down. After inspecting the weapon, he took a magazine from Chen Fei, who was loading one nearby. Once it was in, Xiao Chen didn’t start shooting immediately. Instead, he switched the firing mode from full-auto to semi-auto.

BANG. BANG. BANG. Even though Xiao Chen was firing single shots, he emptied the magazine in just over ten seconds, not much slower than Su Chen’s full-auto spray.

They say amateurs watch for fun while experts look for technique. As the biggest amateur among the four, Su Chen only saw that Xiao Chen was hitting a target with every shot.

But Ivan, standing nearby, was slack-jawed with astonishment. He had been a soldier for many years, so he could naturally see the real skill on display.

Every one of Xiao Chen’s shots hit the dead center of the target, and he was switching targets with each shot. To not only finish a magazine in such a short time but to do it with such accuracy… one could only imagine how good his marksmanship truly was.
