Chapter 471: Chapter 237: Treasure Hunt Squad, Activate
Xuan and Huang nodded, called over four or five patrol members, and hurried out of the camp.
Watching them leave, Xiao Chen muttered something under his breath. Su Chen, who stood nearby, only caught the gist of it. He offered a silent prayer for Xuan and Huang. ’I wonder what kind of training awaits them when they return to China.’
Salman and his group returned quickly. With over a dozen people, they were a boisterous bunch. As they entered the camp, Su Chen could see the proud look on Salman’s face from a good distance away.
When the patrol members carried their quarry into the camp, Su Chen finally understood what Salman had to be so proud about.
"Two huge black bears!" Su Chen couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise. He’d never have guessed Salman’s quarry would be something like this.
"Hahaha! So, what do you think? Not bad, right?" Salman beamed at Su Chen and Xiao Chen, his left foot planted on a black bear’s head, his right hand on his hip, and his left resting on his knee.
Su Chen and Xiao Chen gave him a thumbs-up in unison. It was genuinely impressive to have hunted down two large black bears.
He quickly invited the two to sit down. After pouring coffee for Salman and Abdullah, Su Chen, a master of social etiquette, immediately asked about the two black bears, giving them the perfect opening to show off.
Sure enough, upon hearing Su Chen’s question, Salman’s eyes crinkled into a smile. He took a sip of coffee to wet his throat before slowly beginning his story.
It turned out that after leaving the camp, Salman and his group hadn’t followed the hunting route Su Chen’s party had taken earlier. Instead, they chose the opposite direction, heading downstream.
After following the river for a while, they found numerous tracks left by animals that frequented the water’s edge. Salman and his men, led by the patrol members, followed the tracks into the forest.
It was hard to say whether Salman’s group was lucky or Su Chen’s had been unlucky, but not long after entering the forest, they discovered animals like roe deer and sika deer. Salman, however, had no intention of hunting them.
In his own words, "These small things can’t demonstrate my skill."
And sure enough, a patrol member actually found bear tracks. After searching the forest for over half an hour, they finally found their quarry, a black bear, near a massive tree stump that would take several people to encircle.
Interestingly, the black bear was part of a family of three. The cub, in particular, looked like it had only recently been born.
Salman immediately decided to hunt the bears. As for the hunting plan, that was even simpler: Salman would open fire, and the others would provide supporting fire. With a full volley, even the fiercest beast would have to go down.
"Hmm? So you dealt with the cub as well?" Su Chen asked. He recalled Salman saying it was a family of three, but he could only see the carcasses of two large black bears.
Salman shook his head and said, "No, the little guy was quite cute, so I decided to adopt it. I already arranged for it to be sent to my ranch before we came back."
Su Chen wasn’t at all surprised by what Salman said. Those ultra-rich tycoons in the Middle East would keep anything as a pet. Lions and tigers were the most common, followed by wolves, rhinos, and crocodiles. Bears, however, were less common.
And that was precisely why Salman wanted to try raising a bear, though he had no idea if he could successfully raise it.
For some reason, the happy look on Salman’s face gradually gave way to a troubled expression.
"What’s wrong?" Su Chen asked, confused. ’The conversation was going so well, why the sudden change of face?’
In response, Salman sighed and said, "I have to go back tonight. My father called while I was out hunting and told me to become his assistant, to prepare for the position of crown prince."
Salman had been thinking he would achieve something through his own efforts, to really impress his father and the elders of his family. He never expected a single phone call from his father would upend all his plans.
Su Chen and Xiao Chen exchanged a glance, then said with a smile, "Then I must congratulate you in advance, Crown Prince Salman!"
Hearing Su Chen’s new title for him, Salman also broke into a grin. ’Who wouldn’t want to be the crown prince?’ If he took this position, it meant he would one day wield true power in the entire royal family. How could he not be happy?
It was just that the road ahead was incredibly arduous. His other brothers were also eyeing the position covetously; the slightest misstep would get him eliminated from the competition.
"Su Chen, my friend, I love the eagle-shaped gold nugget you gave me. It may very well become a powerful boon on my path to the crown. Thank you so much!"
The eagle is a totem for the wealthy elite of the Middle East. If he were to bring the eagle-shaped gold nugget back to his country and subtly promote the idea that he was "favored by the falcon," it would naturally score him major points.
The corner of Su Chen’s mouth twitched into a smile. ’I never expected the little scheme I set up on a whim would take root so quickly,’ he thought. He calmly waved his hand and said, "As a friend, being able to help you is what makes me the happiest!"
"Yes!" Salman nodded, very excited. Ultimately, he had yet to step into the world of politics, so he wasn’t yet so guarded. He was still a bit carefree and simple, which gave Su Chen an exploitable opening.
After about ten more minutes of idle chat, Salman announced his departure. After all, it wasn’t early—it was already past four in the afternoon. If they delayed any longer, it would be dark.
