Chapter 476: Chapter 239: Everything is Ready
"Whoa~"
Seeing a white shadow flash by, Su Chen quickly pulled on his horse’s reins to calm the startled animal.
Placing his left hand on the saddle, Su Chen swung his right leg over and dismounted. He shouted irritably at the distant white shadow, "Pang Hu, get over here!"
At Su Chen’s shout, the white shadow stopped in its tracks. It turned and sprinted toward him, reaching his position in an instant. Before Su Chen could even react, the shadow pounced, knocking him to the ground.
This white shadow was the large White Tiger Su Chen had rescued. In just ten-odd days, her body had all but completely recovered. The speed of her recovery truly astonished Su Chen; if a person had sustained such severe injuries, they would have been lucky to get out of bed in a month or two.
"Pang Hu, haven’t I told you not to lick me? There’s so much drool!" Su Chen grunted, grabbing the large White Tiger’s head and forcefully pushing her aside. Only then did he manage to sit up, wiping the slobber from his face with the back of his hand.
Ever since the large White Tiger had started to recover a few days ago and could stand and move about freely, she had become incredibly clingy, constantly running up to Su Chen for cuddles. Where was the domineering aura of the Queen of the Forest? She was no different from a needy kitten.
That’s why Su Chen had given her a name—Pang Hu. As for the origin of the name, Su Chen had been watching a lot of short videos recently, and there was a popular meme that went, "You’re making things difficult for me, Pang Hu!" Thinking that the White Tiger was, well, a tiger, he decided to give her that name.
Even the three little ones weren’t left out. The two small White Tiger cubs were named Hu Da and Hu Er respectively. As for the little lynx, Su Chen named it Zhaocai, a perfect match for his fat orange cat, Yuanbao, back in the Imperial Capital.
Just then, Xiao Chen also rode over. He was carrying an AK-47, and several gray rabbits were hanging from his saddle.
However, he stopped about twenty meters away from Su Chen. Seeing that his horse refused to go any further and was trembling, Xiao Chen dismounted with a sigh of resignation and walked quickly toward Su Chen.
"That Pang Hu is so mischievous. I just saw a particularly fat rabbit, but she scared it right back into its hole," Xiao Chen said, sitting down beside Su Chen and reaching out a large hand to stroke the great White Tiger.
"AWOO~" The great White Tiger glanced at Xiao Chen, whose hand had reached her rump. She tilted her head back and let out a helpless roar, as if to say that a tiger’s backside was off-limits, but she didn’t dare protest because of Su Chen.
Su Chen patted Pang Hu’s large head and said with a smile, "This one is getting more and more human-like."
Xiao Chen nodded emphatically in agreement. When Pang Hu was just starting to recover, you couldn’t even think about touching her; she would roar at you just for being in her line of sight.
After Su Chen ’educated’ her a few times, and perhaps as she grew accustomed to the environment and the people around Su Chen, Pang Hu gradually became more docile. Thus, Xiao Chen, who had been waiting for so long, was finally able to pet a tiger.
The first time he hugged and petted Pang Hu, he was grinning from ear to ear. It was perfectly normal, when you thought about it. Who wouldn’t be excited to pet a tiger—let alone an extremely rare White Tiger?
Xiao Chen remembered when Pang Hu was surrounded and petted by a group of burly patrolmen from the ranch’s residential area. The expression on her face had been one of utter, life-has-no-meaning despair.
"I’m probably going back to the country today," Xiao Chen said abruptly, while still stroking Pang Hu’s rump.
"Back to the country? Did the Old Man call?" Su Chen’s hand paused for a moment before quickly resuming its motion.
Xiao Chen didn’t speak. He took a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, offered one to Su Chen, and lit one for himself.
After taking a few drags, Xiao Chen finally nodded slowly and said, "Yeah. It’s about that Zhengdao Park of yours. The first batch of experts has completed their studies. They say some aspects of the construction will need major changes, and they want me to go back and oversee it."
Hearing this, Su Chen understood what was happening. ’They’re going to put controllable nuclear fusion technology into practice,’ he thought. ’The most direct applications will be in energy infrastructure and... military equipment.’
’Aircraft carriers, for example. Our country currently only has the Liaoning, which was commissioned last year, and it’s a conventionally powered carrier. It’s still a long way from the world’s most advanced nuclear-powered carriers.’
’As for the Old Man calling Xiao Chen back, it seems he’s about to be entrusted with a major responsibility.’
"When are you leaving? I’ll arrange a private jet to take you back."
"This afternoon, probably." After he spoke, a flicker of melancholy crossed Xiao Chen’s eyes. These ten-odd days of playing around without any work to do had been truly relaxing. A pity... that time was now over.
Tapping the ash from his half-smoked cigarette, Xiao Chen thought of the gold mine and quickly asked, "Oh, right. How is the acquisition of the mining company progressing?"
Almost half a month had passed, and he hadn’t seen Su Chen make any particular arrangements.
"I already made the arrangements. I just don’t know how it’s progressing," Su Chen said, also taking a sharp drag from his cigarette.
After sending off the prospecting team, Su Chen had called Pei Rang back in their home country and told him to find and acquire a company within Bear Country that had all the proper mining licenses.
