Chapter 484: Chapter 241: Send Your Family to China
Everyone held the rope with one hand and grabbed onto rock protrusions with the other. It took a great deal of effort for them to reach the bottom of the cave.
Su Chen clapped the dust off his hands. Only then did he have a moment to survey the bottom of the cave. He found it was extremely spacious—at least seven or eight meters high and five or six meters wide. As for its length, Su Chen shone his flashlight into the darkness but couldn’t see the end.
He couldn’t even see the other team members who had descended earlier. Just as Su Chen was about to ask Lin Tian what was going on, several torches appeared in the depths of the cave. The people approaching were the other members of the treasure-hunting team.
After the treasure-hunting team explained, Su Chen learned that the cave was extremely long—at least two or three kilometers. At the far end was a pool of water more than ten meters in diameter. According to the positioning devices they carried, the pool connected to Lake Baikal.
They didn’t have any diving gear, so there was no way of knowing what lay at the bottom of the pool.
After walking for seven or eight minutes, Su Chen saw numerous wooden chests come into view.
"Mr. Su, we’ve found exactly one hundred wooden chests in total—no more, no less!" Lin Tian reported, standing beside Su Chen.
They had already dug in several other spots but had unfortunately found no more chests. The only place left to search was the pool of water.
Su Chen wasn’t disappointed by this news. He smiled and patted Lin Tian’s arm. "One hundred chests is already a lot. It’s better than nothing, right?"
With that, Su Chen walked over to the chests. They were all in a state of disrepair, their golden contents exposed.
He examined them closely and saw that the broken wooden chests were filled exclusively with gold bars; there was no jewelry, antique crowns, or anything of the sort.
CLAP! CLAP! Su Chen clapped his hands, drawing everyone’s attention. He announced loudly, "Alright, everyone, let’s get moving! Our mission is to haul all this gold home!"
"Yes, sir!" The team’s morale was sky-high. With a collective shout, they all sprang into action.
Gold is incredibly dense, so a ten-kilogram bar wasn’t very large; you could practically lift one with a single hand. The crew packed the gold with astonishing speed!
With more than twenty people, each man only needed to pack the contents of less than five chests. In under two hours, all the gold from the one hundred chests had been loaded into burlap sacks.
The sacks Su Chen and his team had brought were no ordinary bags. They were heavy-duty grain sacks—thick, durable, and with a large capacity. Each one was filled with exactly one hundred gold bars.
But when it came time to move them, everyone was dumbfounded. One hundred gold bars weighed a full metric ton; there was no way one or two people could lift a single sack.
Left with no other choice, they first had to test how much each person could carry. After some trial and error, they determined the optimal weight was sixty kilograms.
Whether they were from the patrol or treasure-hunting teams, everyone was well-trained. This weight was manageable enough that it didn’t hinder their ability to walk while carrying it.
Su Chen divided the labor. He mixed the members of the treasure-hunting and patrol teams, assigning half the men to transport the gold from the back of the cave to the entrance. The other half was responsible for carrying the gold from the entrance to the truck.
Once all the gold was out of the cave, they would all work together to transport it the rest of the way. Su Chen made an on-the-spot announcement: as soon as the gold bars were safely back, everyone would receive a ten-million bonus!
Su Chen wasn’t a stingy man. He was well aware of the value of this gold, so of course he wouldn’t be cheap with the rewards.
Hearing about the ten-million bonus, everyone’s fighting spirit soared, and they all got to work with renewed vigor.
It took them an entire day and night.
Su Chen and his team worked from dusk till dawn, and then from dawn till dusk again. At last, they managed to move all the gold bars from the mountain to the truck. Everyone was so exhausted they couldn’t move a muscle, and Su Chen was no exception.
The fifty tons of gold didn’t take up much space—not even filling a tenth of the large truck’s capacity—but it had taken over forty hours to haul it all!
Considering everyone’s exhausted state, Su Chen decided they would camp in the wild for one night before returning to the ranch. This would allow everyone to rest up and recover their energy, preventing any accidents on the way back.
When they set off the next day, Su Chen had to drive the truck himself. There was no other choice; the men from the patrol and treasure-hunting teams had been too excited to fall asleep until three or four in the morning.
If Su Chen hadn’t forced Chen Fei and Hiri to get some proper sleep, there probably would have been no one to drive back today at all.
The journey was smooth and uneventful, but as they entered the ranch area, Su Chen was stunned by the sight before him.
The sides of the road were lined with all sorts of excavators, dump trucks, and various other pieces of mining equipment. Su Chen estimated there were at least dozens, if not a hundred, machines.
’Li Li really is efficient. It’s only been a short while, and she’s already mobilized all this equipment!’
Thinking about the gold and rubidium mines that were about to be excavated, the smile on Su Chen’s face grew even wider.
