Chapter 179: Chapter 106: This Kid Is Too Smart, A Bountiful Harvest (Part 2)
The Fog Bat folded its membranous wings, its body shooting forward like an arrow. The talons on its six legs sprang out, ready to pierce its prey’s head and savor the sweet blood within.
Blood was the creature’s favorite food.
Its hunting habit was to first drain its prey of blood, then hang the corpse in its nest to be savored later.
However.
For the Fog Bat, ten meters had become an impassable chasm.
The next second.
Reina suddenly felt the friction between her Sheepskin Boots and the muddy ground bizarrely disappear as a powerful force shoved her violently from behind.
It was as if an invisible giant hand had seized her, flinging her toward the woods with lightning speed.
The Fog Bat could only watch helplessly as the distance between it and its prey stretched from ten meters to twenty, then from twenty to thirty, growing ever larger.
It instinctively sensed the danger and furiously beat its membranous wings, frantically manipulating the air currents to gain altitude and escape the increasingly perilous area.
But it was too late!

「Black Tower Academy.」
「Inside the Observation Room.」
"That kid is too clever!"
The Third Level Apprentice, Mansha, still maintained her seductive, languid posture. Her red lips parted slightly as she uttered words filled with praise.
As an observer, she had witnessed the entirety of the brilliant strategy Mo Ning orchestrated in such a short time.
First.
Reina acted as bait, sprinting toward the Sanctuary and exposing herself to the Fog Bat.
Meanwhile, Mo Ning and Anya hid in the shadows under the archway, concealed by the stone walls.
The Fog Bat, naturally, chose the prey that looked the most panicked and easiest to catch.
Second.
When Reina suddenly changed direction and dashed into the woods, the Fog Bat, in its effort to intercept its prey while dodging the darts, was forced to use its Talent Ability—[Wandering in the Fog].
With this move, it instantly closed the distance from over ten meters to just over six.
Mansha still remembered that the last First Level Apprentice killed by a Fog Bat had fallen to this exact pounce.
Third.
Sensing that Mo Ning and Anya were preparing to attack, the Fog Bat unleashed another Talent, [Scream of Fear].
The bulk of the Magic Power from the psychic assault surged toward the two of them. Mo Ning took a step back, and Anya was even knocked to the ground.
Only after doing all this did the Fog Bat cast [Wandering in the Fog] again to launch a fatal strike against its prey.
But in that split second, from over twenty meters away, Mo Ning cast [Fast Sliding] on Reina, instantly pushing her into the distance.
The Fog Bat was dumbfounded.
Finally.
Mo Ning used the Trick [Throwing] to precisely toss out the [Capture Net] metal sphere.
The Fog Bat had just used a movement skill, and the turbulence in its Magic Power had not yet subsided, leaving it unable to use one a third time.
On top of that, it was at its lowest altitude, pinned down by its own inertia, with absolutely no way to dodge.
"BANG—"
The metal sphere suddenly exploded, and a massive tangle of metal wires shot out, binding the Fog Bat in layer after layer.
The Fog Bat’s body slammed heavily into the mud, its momentum sending it tumbling wildly.
Because its wings were entangled in the metal wires and couldn’t be folded, its right membranous wing suffered a massive impact as it tumbled and, with a "CRACK," snapped completely.
This meant the Fog Bat was finished.
It could no longer return to the familiar skies, and its death was now inevitable.
Mansha watched the wretched prey and couldn’t help but sigh in admiration, "People who master Secret Divination and Divination always have such enviably brilliant minds!"
The Fog Bat’s direct combat prowess wasn’t actually that strong, but it was a flying creature that could blend into the thick fog, making it difficult to detect. That was what made it such a headache to deal with.
Many a Second Level Apprentice had been helpless against it.
But this kid, with a series of strategies, had toyed with the Fog Bat in the palm of his hand and played it straight to its death.
On the Light Curtain.
Mo Ning calmly raised his left hand, and with a WHOOSH, a short, black Crossbow Arrow shot out from his sleeve.
Just then, the Fog Bat’s body completed its final tumble. Because of its broken wing, its mouth was wide open in a pained gape, letting out a piteous "SQUEAK SQUEAK."
The Crossbow Arrow sped through nearly thirty meters of thick fog, plunged with unerring accuracy into the Fog Bat’s mouth, and pierced deep into its head.
The Fog Bat’s body convulsed violently a few times, then fell completely still.
It was dead!
Mansha praised him again, "Nice shot!"
It was impossible to see the Fog Bat’s silhouette through the thick fog, yet he had killed it with a single arrow. The feat seemed incredible.
But she had seen plenty of Divine Archers, so she didn’t find it that unbelievable.
Some of the more formidable Apprentices in the academy possessed the powerful [Archery Intuition] and could hit prey a hundred meters away even while blindfolded.
Nasha watched the Light Curtain, admiration flashing in her beautiful eyes as well. "This kid really is something else."
For three rookies who hadn’t even mastered Level Zero Witchcraft to so easily take down a powerful Fog Bat—it was truly impressive.
Mansha turned to her colleague and asked, "Was that a Breathing Technique the kid used to resist the [Scream of Fear]?"
Nasha hummed in affirmation.
She concealed an important piece of information: it was Mo Ning’s own improved version of the [High Mountain Magic Breath Technique].
Before ending her surveillance of Mo Ning per her mentor’s instructions, she had seen that intriguing name on a stack of scale pattern paper.
Mansha’s alluring eyes grew dewy again. "This kid is so interesting. You won’t find a more formidable newcomer in the last fifty years of the academy’s history. I think Lord Dute will be very interested in him."
Nasha cursed inwardly, ’Bitch!’
She understood all too well. Mansha’s repeated mentions of Lord Dute were a clear and deliberate attempt to provoke her.
On the outside, however, she could only force a smile. "I imagine the boy would be very happy to be valued by a Second Level Wizard."
