From Wizard Apprentice to Conqueror of Myriad Worlds
Chapter 181 - 107: Planar War, Light of Truth
Chapter 181: Chapter 107: Planar War, Light of Truth
Half an hour passed in a flash.
Nasha, the Third Level Female Apprentice, once again felt the urge to brandish her Magic Whip and drive her colleague out.
Because another spectacular hunt was playing out on the Light Curtain.
All the other newcomers were cowering in their crude shelters, while only the three-person team led by Mo Ning moved brazenly through the mist.
They had found a Muddy Worm nearly five meters long. With startling efficiency, the trio dispatched the equally troublesome monster cleanly and decisively.
Reina was the bait, as before. The girl seemed to have a natural talent for acting. She scrambled and tumbled as she fled for her life, looking so genuinely pathetic that there was no hint of pretense.
Anya lay in ambush on the flank, her Qi and Blood Power coiled and ready to strike.
Meanwhile, Mo Ning stood atop a high rock, looking down on the scene below.
The Muddy Worm opened its circular maw and—PFFT!—sprayed out a large amount of sticky mud.
This mud was like superglue, a god-tier ability for both hunting and self-defense.
Once its prey was stuck, the worm could drag it underground at its leisure. If an enemy was stuck, it could just as easily make its escape.
Combined with its thick coat of mud, which served as natural, flexible armor, even a Second Level Apprentice would find it difficult to kill.
But in the instant the mud sprayed out, just before the maw could fully close, a dart shot out of the thick fog. It traced a nearly invisible arc through the air and plunged with perfect precision into the worm’s open mouth.
It was a dart fired from Mo Ning’s Multi-functional Staff.
Attached to the dart’s tail was a metal sphere: a Capture Net.
The metal sphere exploded deep inside the creature’s mouth. Countless fine metal threads erupted from the soft lining, instantly piercing muscle and penetrating its brain, dealing a fatal blow.
Anya shot out and threw a ferocious Qi and Blood Fist with all her might, putting a definitive end to the worm’s death throes.
The Muddy Worm’s corpulent body convulsed violently a few times before collapsing limply into the mire.
Nasha had to admit, that throw was truly impressive.
A high-arcing shot from nearly 120 meters away, through fog so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. The timing was so perfect—a split second later and the mouth would have closed; a split second earlier and the mud would have engulfed the dart. The precision was simply breathtaking.
"That kid is the most incredible newcomer I’ve ever seen!"
Watching Mo Ning casually hop down from a large rock, Mansha couldn’t help but exclaim in genuine admiration.
Nasha glanced at her colleague’s backside, which seemed permanently "welded" to the sofa cushion, and she silently ground her teeth.
She realized that this woman—the one who gave off the constant impression of being shamelessly flirtatious—probably wouldn’t budge from her spot until the second group assessment was over.
Mansha turned to Nasha, eagerly starting a conversation:
"The academy must have put that Muddy Worm there on purpose to attack the Battle Group’s camp, right?"
Nasha suppressed her emotions and nodded with a simple, "Mhm."
"If these newcomers are just going to huddle up in their crude camp, how is the academy supposed to assess them? Naturally, we have to stir up some fun for them."
To be honest, sending a Muddy Worm to attack the newcomers was a pretty dirty move.
But both Female Apprentices understood perfectly well that this was the academy’s way.
It had been proven time and again that only by facing mortal danger and life-or-death trials could a person’s true potential be unleashed.
For newcomers with less-than-stellar aptitude, this was often their only chance to prove their worth and earn the right to stay at the academy.
It was incredibly cruel, but it was reality.
On the other hand, the academy didn’t need grunts who would just toil away diligently in the plantations and breeding farms. It needed experienced and courageous Combat Wizards and Combat Apprentices.
That was why every trial the academy arranged naturally came with a considerable degree of danger.
Mansha pressed on, "Since that kid took out the Muddy Worm, they’ll send another monster, right?"
Nasha nodded. "Of course."
Mansha couldn’t help but laugh. "I remember the death cap for this kind of wilderness survival assessment is usually five. With him around, I bet not as many will die this time."
She paused, then added, "With such an interesting fellow in this batch of newcomers, more people should have a chance to be alive two years from now."
Nasha glanced at her colleague and suddenly corrected her. "The death cap this time is set at eight."
Mansha’s heart skipped a beat. Her flirtatious demeanor vanished in an instant. "That many?!"
She thought for a moment, a faint look of worry quickly clouding her pretty face. "Don’t tell me... the Plane War is about to start?"
The academy raising the death limit for the assessment to intensify the "troop training" in preparation for the coming war—it was a perfectly logical assumption.
After all, aren’t the so-called "elite soldiers and powerful generals" forged in the crucible of death?
A shadow crossed Nasha’s beautiful eyes. "Yes, I think so too."
She added, "You must be aware of the recent undercurrents in the academy. The Dark Wizard Organizations in the various Kingdoms are showing signs of activity again. I think that’s very clear evidence."
Mansha sighed softly. Her earlier excitement at watching the spectacle had mostly vanished.
"The Plane Battlefield has been peaceful for just over a hundred years. I never thought another war would break out so soon."
The two Female Apprentices exchanged a look, and suddenly, neither had any desire to speak.
