Chapter 242: Chapter 15: Dominant Performance, a Minion Drops Golden Equipment, Treasure Chest

To his surprise, it was a Witchcraft Item. Its primary materials were Mithril and Sinking Gold, but it also included several kinds of Spiritual Metal.

Mo Ning gave it a quick inspection and confirmed it possessed crude Magic Circuits.

Though its conduction efficiency was extremely low, it was, without a doubt, a Witchcraft Item.

The creator of this item was very likely the Dark Lizardman Caster who’d had his head blown off.

In other words, this monster was a genius. It couldn’t even recognize Secret Spirit Text, yet it somehow had the ability to create Witchcraft Items.

Mo Ning couldn’t help but get the strange feeling that he’d killed a trash mob and looted Golden Equipment.

The other item was a Totem Fang, which he had looted from the Caster’s body.

As he picked it up, the Guiding Ring gave him a prompt: [This chieftain’s Totem Fang is equivalent to twenty ordinary Totem Fangs.]

The craftsmanship of this item surpassed even the one he’d gotten from the Dark Goblin chieftain.

Mo Ning stared at it for a moment, a slight smile playing on his lips. ’A clue to a Treasure Chest is hidden within the Totem Fangs worn by leaders, just as I thought.’

From what he knew, Dungeons entered with a Maze Key contained Treasure Chests, and the maze for the group assessment would also spawn one.

The latter was extremely difficult to find, and its rewards were said to be a great deal better than the former’s.

His own experience proved this point: the clue was hidden on monster leaders, making it difficult to obtain even for a Strong Person among the new recruits.

Take Sitt, for example. Even if you told him where the clue was, the guy wouldn’t dare to pick a fight with a tribe leader.

Based on his experience, after collecting all the clues, he would still need to solve a difficult Divination puzzle to find the Treasure Chest’s final location.

Both of those steps were as difficult as ascending to heaven.

Mo Ning performed a calculation using Secret Divination and Divination, and came to a conclusion:

’If I take out three more leaders and get three more Leader’s Fangs, I should be able to solve the puzzle.’

Over the next two hours, Mo Ning led the Battle Banner Legion on an absolute rampage, crushing three medium-sized or larger Monster Tribes in a row.

The hundred-odd "tigers and wolves" under the legion’s command slaughtered over two thousand monsters with vicious grins.

By the time they attacked the third tribe, even the members of the logistics team couldn’t hold back anymore, and they charged forward to wildly hack at the monsters.

The fame of the Battle Banner Legion now echoed throughout the entire underground mine maze.

The "veterans" from the previous assessment all meekly went out of their way to avoid the legion. No one dared to even speak loudly in their presence.

The bearded rookie named Kadi, who had been rude to Mo Ning in the cafeteria, was now hiding like a rat, not daring to show his face anywhere near the legion.

「Five hours into the assessment.」

Mo Ning stood in a blood-soaked cavern. Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, he reached out and pressed an unremarkable stone wall a few times, infusing it with several bursts of Magic Power at a specific frequency.

KLICK—KLACK—

With a few soft clicks, a circular disk bizarrely materialized on the stone wall. A five-pointed star was etched into its surface with grooves.

At each point of the star, there was an indentation.

"Whoa!"

"Incredible!"

"I can’t believe such an ordinary-looking wall was hiding a Mystery like this!"

"As expected of Legion Commander Mo Ning!"

By now, the rookies had uniformly started addressing Mo Ning as "Legion Commander" or "Legion Commander Mo Ning." No one dared to call him by his name directly.

In front of everyone, Mo Ning took out five Leader’s Fangs and fitted them one by one into the five indentations. Each fang was a perfect match for its slot.

Then, threads of golden light began to seep from the stone wall, coalescing into a golden Treasure Chest that hovered in the center.

The Treasure Chest flashed, transforming from an illusory state into a solid object before falling to the ground with a THUD.

The crowd burst into an uproar.

Even a fool could see that Legion Commander Mo Ning had just unlocked the hidden Treasure Chest of the maze assessment.

The onlookers, having witnessed this rare sight with their own eyes, were all incredibly excited.

"I heard there’s only one hidden Treasure Chest in each maze assessment!"

"They say no one has opened the hidden Treasure Chest in the rookie maze assessments for the last ten years. The Legion Commander is the first one to do it in a decade!"

There was no jealousy here.

The rookies had followed Mo Ning into battle for five hours, and every single one of them was utterly convinced of his superiority. They all believed this was a reward he deserved.

And Mo Ning had no intention of hiding it.

As a team leader, displaying his extraordinary personal abilities was also an important way to increase the team’s cohesion.

Who wouldn’t want to follow a Strong Person?
