The girls walked around the party, with Princess busy introducing her girlfriend to guests who were not even from Oakland. Princess held Faye’s hand firmly in hers, her shoulders set broad and tall while her chest expanded with a proud, confident draft of air. She glided past the velvet drapes and polished marble pillars, her eyes shining as her voice rang out clear and smooth across the crowded room.

Faye played her part as a supportive girlfriend and politely shook everyone’s hands. Every time a rich stranger reached out a hand, Faye took it with a gentle squeeze, her lungs pulling in a quiet, controlled breath to keep her eyes bright and her posture completely calm.

While Princess was talking to other Alphas, Faye grabbed a drink from a passing tray, and to her surprise, the server was her best friend.

Her hand reached out on pure instinct, her fingers curling around the cold glass stem before her gaze glided up to meet his face. Her breath caught sharply in her throat, her heart giving a quick, surprised thud against her collarbone as she recognized the scowl staring right back at her.

He was not happy.

The last time he had seen his friend, she had been wearing a black apron. Now she was dressed in a beautiful gown, with her hair styled and heavy makeup on.

Malo stood there with his tray balanced on his palm, his shoulders stiff while his chest heaved in a sharp, annoyed puff through his nose. His jaw worked continuously as his eyes scanned the bright blue silk wrapped around her body, his pulse thumping a bitter cadence at his neck.

"Hey, Malo..." Faye said, sipping her wine. She lifted the glass to her lips, letting the cold liquid slide down her throat while her eyes blinked innocently over the rim, her lungs taking in a simple, easy draft of air.

"Really? Your girlfriend helped you with your attendance, and you forgot you have a friend’s attendance to mark?" Malo said, his voice dropping into a low, harsh whisper while his lungs pumped out rapid, agitated gasps, his free hand clenching into a tight fist at his side.

Faye tried to come up with a reasonable excuse. Her fingers twitched slightly against the smooth glass, her pulse skipping a quick, guilty beat while her mind raced to find the right words to calm him down.

"Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about you... you just popped into my mind." Faye blurted out softly, letting out a short, nervous exhale through her teeth while her cheeks flushed hot under her makeup.

"Wow, Faye. I am so shocked," Malo said in a sarcastic tone.

"Maybe next time you find a girlfriend or boyfriend, what ever is your deal, just make sure it’s an Alpha so you can escape... penalties. Mine does it all for me," Faye said. She threw her shoulders back proudly, her posture straightening as a bold smirk touched her lips, her heart beating a fast, playful rhythm against her ribs.

Princess, who was beside her talking to other guests, leaned toward her girlfriend’s shoulder.

"Babe, you are aware that you are audible," she whispered.

"Obviously. I am bragging about how my Alpha loves me with all her heart. She’s the Kings to my Omega heart." Faye declared out loud, her chin tilting up high while her lungs pulled in a deep, triumphant breath, her eyes sparkling with pure, unbothered heat.

Faye was trying to brag about her girlfriend the same way Princess had been talking proudly about her to everyone they met. Her heart thundered with fierce devotion, her hand reaching over to squeeze Princess’s waist tight while her breath blew out in a happy, confident huff.

Malo just rolled his eyes and left to attend to the other guests. He was just not happy about working for free...

Then the celebration officially began.

Adam stepped onto the stage and announced his grandfather’s sixtieth birthday before inviting him out.

Everyone finally saw the Alpha. They had expected an elderly man, but instead, it was a young boy. The small figure walked out smoothly onto the center platform, his fitted suit pressing crisp against his tiny frame while his timeless gaze swept across the room, his breathing coming out perfectly slow and effortless.

No one said anything. They were shocked, yes, but no one dared to whisper.

Those conversations would only happen later, behind closed doors in their own homes. Their pulses thundered frantically against their throats, every high-class family holding their breath while trying to keep their faces completely blank under the leader’s crushing aura.

"Looks like I am not the only one," Faye muttered to herself as she finished her drink. She tipped her glass back, swallowing the last drop while her eyes watched the frozen crowd, her chest heaving in a short, amused wave.

Princess glanced at her, wondering why her girlfriend couldn’t just read the room.

Kiara, who was standing beside Princess, leaned over and whispered,

"I told you." Her sharp voice cut through the quiet air, her chest rising in a small, smug wave as she smirked at Princess’s reaction.

She had warned Princess that Faye would eventually be the one to expose her true nature to the Alpha.

Half of Oakland already knew how outspoken Faye was. Kiara had lost count of how many times she had overheard Faye and her friends talking nonstop in the school cafeteria, the classroom, the gym, and even the mall. She was sure it was a matter of time, the Alpha find out that Faye was a moon wolf.

"Feet away," Princess reminded Kiara, not wanting false rumors about them to start spreading like wildfire. She took a firm step sideways, her posture locking into cold stone while her voice dropped into a dangerous, dark pitch, her chest expanding with a sharp draft of authority.

Last year, Kiara had been the one standing beside her at parties like this.

While the Alpha of Oakland gave his welcoming speech and everyone listened, Princess noticed Faye and Malo quietly leaving the party without saying a word.

She wanted to follow them and find out why they had left halfway through, especially since they still had the family dinner afterward.

In the end, Princess attended the family dinner without her girlfriend by her side.
