Gacha System Master
Chapter 51: Armed to the Teeth
Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Armed to the Teeth
He had already obtained some amazing things from the Golden Bone Penitents, things that had truly made risking his neck worthwhile.
First, there was his new weapon, "Dragon Walker," a black greatsword whose blade was roughly one meter long and featured a design resembling dragon scales. Its crossguard also appeared to be made of dragon bones, with small scarlet-red details.
It was an incredible sword, although slightly heavy, as it was meant to be wielded with both hands. It also had the mysterious effect of burning anything it came into contact with. Perhaps that was why it had been given that name.
On the other hand, he had obtained the "Giant’s Belt," which allowed him to lift heavy objects more easily, making it an excellent combination with Dragon Walker. The belt, however, was thick and bore the emblem of a lightning bolt. It belonged to the "Devastating Thunder" set, about which Victor knew absolutely nothing.
He had also obtained a "Longinus Fruit" that doubled one’s magical capacity, but Victor had no idea what to do with it since he wasn’t someone who had anything to do with magic.
Besides, twice zero was still zero, so there was no point in wasting the fruit until he found a way to make proper use of it.
Along with the fruit, he had obtained a pair of short steel chains with rather ambiguous uses, as their description claimed they were capable of imprisoning even the largest Lamentos.
Victor took a deep breath and, feeling exhausted, sat down on the bed. He was supposedly armed to the teeth now, but he couldn’t help doubting his own abilities.
Besides, he didn’t know how to use a sword! If anything, swinging it around like a baseball bat was the bare minimum he could do without looking like an idiot. He had been pretty lucky against the Penitents, but his lack of skill had cost him a couple of injuries.
Underneath those clothes, the number of cuts and amount of blood covering his body were somewhat concerning.
"I’m going to spend all my coins, and I hope I get something good."
His Luck Value was pretty good now. I mean, compared to what it had been at the beginning, this was a huge improvement. And since he’d been getting nothing but junk lately, he hoped to get at least something even better than what he’d obtained by killing the Penitents.
And so, the round of summons began.
Most of the items were complete and utter junk, aside from the little food he’d managed to get. But not everything was bad, as he had obtained two important items of R and SSR rarity.
[You have obtained: Speed Pills x2]
[Rarity: R]
[Description: Once consumed, a pill will double your movement and reaction speed. However, after five minutes, you will be unable to move due to exhaustion.]
’A double-edged sword, huh? As if I didn’t already have Ironclad Defense, which practically does the same thing.’
But the really important reward came next.
[You have obtained: Gale Mantle.]
[Rarity: SSR]
[Description: Increases agility and allows for explosive bursts of movement. It also partially absorbs the recoil caused by sudden movements.]
’Finally, something worthwhile. Even better than the sword.’
After all, the ability to move at high speeds was extremely important in this scenario; otherwise, the Penitents would catch up to him.
He had survived by running away, hiding, and attacking from behind, but now, with this cloak, he could face them head-on and at high speed. It was an excellent acquisition, and he wouldn’t hesitate to use it.
"Well, that other bastard burned my cloak, so it was about time I got a new one," he said, draping the mantle over his shoulders.
It was a dark blue hooded cloak with silver lightning details, all hand-embroidered, giving the piece a handcrafted feel. Whoever had made something this incredible deserved praise for their excellent work.
[The god "Serpent That Bites Its Own Tail" loves games of chance.]
[The god "Fisher of Opportunities" believes gambling offers good opportunities.]
[An unnamed god sighs in embarrassment.]
’Chance is never beneficial, but neither is it harmful, contradictory as that may sound. It’s nothing more than a series of random events that we all call "luck," whether good or bad. Hmm... Now that I think about it, I suppose it depends on how you look at it.’
Victor had suffered from bad luck his entire life, even before arriving in the scenarios. He had been so unlucky that he had ended up homeless, with nowhere to go and no desire to live. But now he was here, more alive than ever and eager to keep moving forward.
Still aching, Victor straightened up and walked toward the door. He gripped his sword tightly and showed off his new items. To be honest, he didn’t look very good, but the effects of what he was wearing mattered more than his appearance.
"I don’t know how strong the Golden Bone Penitents have become over these past twelve hours, but you can count on one thing: I’ve gotten stronger too."
Although it almost felt like cheating. Even though he had worked hard to obtain everything he had, he couldn’t help thinking that perhaps so many participants were dying because they didn’t have the right tools, and that seemed unfair to him.
Fortunately, his desire to live was so strong that he ended up not giving a damn about whether it was cheating or not. So, he ran through the streets in search of his next enemies, eager to test his new cloak.
’Now, the real problem is figuring out how to make this thing work. Usually, all you have to do is think about activating something, so...’
As he ran, he looked down the road with a frown. He concentrated, telling his mind that he wanted to be over there.
The mantle’s embroidery began to glow faintly. Victor stomped down hard, and the next moment, he propelled himself several meters forward like a gust of wind.
He stopped immediately, nearly falling flat on his face, and smiled.
’I’m going to have to get used to this so I don’t end up face-first against a wall, but I think I can finally fight the Penitents without getting hurt.’
He was genuinely happy with his new power, but soon, the beautiful floral scent reached his nose. A shiver ran through Victor’s body, prompting him to hide among the alleys.
At the end of the street, a woman appeared, holding a whip. In a serious tone, she said:
"I saw you hiding, boy. Come out and hand over all your items. Otherwise, I’ll have to kill you."
