Chapter 81: Biding Time

Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Biding Time

A moment later, Ma Rui and his six subordinates ran over. He glanced around, annoyed, and asked,

"Where are they?"

"We don’t know. We followed them to this area, but then we lost them."

A nearby subordinate explained helplessly.

Just then, a grenade suddenly dropped from above.

"Shit!"

Ma Rui’s eyes widened in alarm, and he immediately hit the deck.

BOOM!

The massive explosion instantly killed three players.

Just then, Long Ming emerged on the rooftop, raised his Carbine, and fired a series of rapid shots.

BANG! BANG!

Three players were picked off and killed.

Seeing this, Ma Rui was scared out of his wits and immediately turned to flee!

Long Ming raised his Carbine and took a precise shot.

BANG!

"Ah, my leg!"

Ma Rui cried out and collapsed, painfully raising his golden handgun to fight back.

BANG!

His wrist was struck, and the handgun clattered to the ground.

Long Ming fired again, disabling his other hand.

After doing all this, he led Qin Ying to the fallen Ma Rui and asked coldly,

"Is it him?"

"Yes, that’s him!"

Qin Ying shouted excitedly.

Long Ming picked up the fallen golden handgun from the ground and handed it to Qin Ying.

Qin Ying held the gun and pointed it at Ma Rui.

A terrified expression appeared in Ma Rui’s eyes, and Qin Ying immediately pulled the trigger.

BANG!

Ma Rui was killed instantly with a shot to the head.

Long Ming then extended his hand toward Qin Ying.

Qin Ying was taken aback and looked at Long Ming in confusion.

"That’s my loot."

"Ah, this gun was my brother’s favorite. How about I buy it from you?"

"No, I like it too."

Long Ming refused flatly.

’This golden handgun doesn’t have a silencer, but its bullets are powerful and armor-piercing.’

"Alright."

Qin Ying then handed the handgun to Long Ming.

After taking the handgun, Long Ming crouched down to pick up the backpack Ma Rui had dropped.

He looted three healing injectors, two magazines, and two high-explosive grenades from the backpack. He also stripped off a high-grade military body armor and put it on.

’As for the heavy ballistic helmet, I’m not taking it. I can’t wear it with my Red Ghost mask, and it’s too bulky. It would just weigh me down.’

Qin Ying stood to the side, quietly watching Long Ming loot the body.

"Alright, let’s go!"

After finishing his looting, Long Ming led Qin Ying as they snuck toward the city center.

Along the way, whenever he heard the sounds of fighting, Long Ming would immediately change their route.

Not long after, Long Ming led Qin Ying on a detour to the outskirts of the base city’s central area.

He stopped and looked up, gazing into the distance.

Towering mountain peaks surrounded an inner wall.

On the inner wall, a Gray Crow Close-in Defense Tower and a Karg Turret were mounted at regular intervals.

Long Ming also saw Tesla towers on the mountain peaks, their tips crackling with menacing arcs of electricity. Clearly, these defenses were active.

"Red Ghost, what do we do next?"

Qin Ying looked at Long Ming uneasily.

"Find a place to hide and wait for nightfall."

Long Ming raised his wristband to check the time. It was a little after four in the afternoon, still a long way to go until 1:00 AM.

"Okay."

Qin Ying nodded obediently.

Long Ming scanned the area. The buildings here were densely packed and several stories tall, making them all decent hiding spots.

But he didn’t choose these buildings. Instead, he locked onto a sewer entrance in the street.

He led Qin Ying over, lifted the manhole cover, glanced down, and then said to her,

"Down you go."

"Ah, okay."

Qin Ying obediently climbed down.

Long Ming jumped straight down.

The city had been in ruins for quite some time, so while the sewer didn’t smell pleasant, it was at least dry, which made waiting inside bearable.

Long Ming casually found a spot against the wall and sat down.

Qin Ying looked at Long Ming, an expression of hesitation on her face, as if she wanted to say something but held back.

"If you have something to say, just say it."

Long Ming replied coolly.

"Everyone else died. It’s just the two of us left. Should we keep fighting?"

"We’ve come this far. Are you willing to give up?"

"I’m not."

"Then we fight to the end."

"Right! We’ll give them everything we’ve got!"

Qin Ying raised her grenade launcher, her voice full of determination.

Long Ming glanced at the multi-shot grenade launcher in Qin Ying’s hands, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly. He then pulled some compressed biscuits and a bottle of mineral water from his backpack and offered them to her.

"Here."

"No need, I have my own."

Qin Ying quickly waved her hand and replied.

"Mm."

Long Ming began to eat to restore his Physical Strength.

Qin Ying also sat down next to Long Ming and pulled a military-issue can from her own backpack.

Long Ming shot her a sideways glance, finished his food more quickly, then closed his eyes to rest and gather his strength.

Time passed quickly. The sky darkened, and the sound of gunfire outside grew more frequent.

Soon, the sound of footsteps echoed from above as a team ran past over their heads.

Qin Ying looked up nervously.

Long Ming didn’t open his eyes, just spoke in a low voice.

"Don’t be nervous. They can’t find us."

"Okay."

After hearing this, Qin Ying’s expression relaxed a lot.

...

「In the dead of night.」

A short player with a mustache struggled to the top of a towering signal tower.

He picked up his binoculars, stared at the northeastern areas, and spoke in a low voice while live-streaming.

"Look, players from the All Stars Guild have gathered outside the western inner wall. It’s half an hour until 1:00 AM, which is when many of the observatory’s weapon systems will be disabled..."

"Holy shit, that’s a major guild for you! They’re just locking down an entire route up!"

"Tch, they’re just relying on their numbers."

...

Countless comments flooded the stream’s chat.

Just then, Pilates rubbed his hands together and said.

"My dear whales, please send some gifts. In a moment, your humble servant here will risk life and limb to sneak into the observatory and bring you a live feed from the front lines. Your support is my greatest motivation!"

...

"Go for it, streamer!"

.....

A flood of gifts scrolled across the screen.

「Outside the western inner wall.」

Qian Wei stood with his hands behind his back, calmly gazing into the distance.

Just then, a man with a strong physique, rugged features, dark skin, and a cigarette dangling from his mouth, said to Qian Wei,

"Young Master, there’s a bit of a problem. Miss Qian Luobing hasn’t regrouped with us. It looks like she plans to go it alone."

"It’s fine. We don’t need her! We can still defeat the other two guilds."

Qian Wei replied confidently to Captain Gao Feng.

"Understood."

Gao Feng couldn’t really say much more.

"Young Master, it’s about time. The light from the Tesla towers has completely dimmed."

A man wearing a gray combat suit, with a scorpion tattoo on his neck, deep-set eyes, an aquiline nose, and a sinister expression, reminded him.

"Have all the stragglers behind us been cleaned up?"

Hearing Jiang Yu’s words, Qian Wei asked with some excitement.

"They’re taken care of. Even if one or two slip through the cracks, they won’t be a threat to us."

Jiang Yu replied hoarsely.

"Let’s move!"

Qian Wei led the team out directly.

They quickly passed through a breach in the inner wall and headed for the western elevator.

At the same time, Farina, Padoka, and Qian Luobing also led their teams across the inner wall, running toward different elevators from the east, north, and south.
