Chapter 38: The Shadow Wraiths Evolves

The two sides finally met.

One of the Reapers swung its blade and cut through a Shadow Wraith.

Another blade followed, forcing the Wraith to retreat into the shadows.

But two more Shadow Wraiths attacked from behind.

The Reaper’s body shook, but it didn’t fall.

Another Shadow Wraith attacked.

This time, a crack appeared on its carapace.

The Reaper turned around and tried to attack, but several Shadow Wraiths had already surrounded it.

More attacks landed.

The Reaper finally collapsed.

The same thing was happening all over the battlefield.

The Reapers were fast and their blades were powerful. Some Shadow Wraiths were destroyed before they could get close.

But there were too many Shadow Wraiths.

Every Reaper had ten of them surrounding it.

The battle continued.

One Reaper after another fell. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Ethan simply stood there, watching the battle through the eyes of his legion.

The Reapers were much stronger than the previous monsters, ten Shadow Wraiths were still too much for a single Reaper to handle.

Even when a Reaper managed to destroy one Shadow Wraith, another quickly took its place.

Soon, the last Reaper fell.

Ethan glanced across the battlefield.

He had lost quite a few Shadow Wraiths in the fight.

That was fine.

In fact, this was a good opportunity.

Ethan opened his status panel and entered the Legion section.

Ethan’s eyes stopped on the last option.

He opened it.

He had reached Level 10, and he had already fulfilled the requirements for evolving his legion.

There was no better place to test the evolved Shadow Wraiths than here.

Ethan selected the evolution option.

Ethan selected Yes.

The moment the notification appeared, all the Shadow Wraiths on the battlefield disappeared.

They were instantly pulled into Ethan’s Legion Space.

Ethan looked around.

The battlefield was suddenly empty.

Even though the Shadow Wraiths had been scattered across the area, they had all been recalled at the same time.

Inside the Legion Space, the Shadow Wraiths gathered together.

Dark energy began to spread through their bodies.

Their forms slowly started to change as dark energy spread through their bodies. Ethan entered his Legion Space and watched the evolution happen before him. The evolution had begun.

He didn’t know what the Shadow Wraiths would become.

But he was looking forward to finding out.

A few seconds passed.

The dark energy around the Shadow Wraiths suddenly grew stronger.

Their bodies changed slightly. Some became taller, while their dark cloaks became less tattered. Their bodies also looked more solid than before, but they still had the same ghostly appearance.

The small shadow blades in their hands began to change.

The blades slowly melted into dark energy before spreading over their hands.

When the energy settled, sharp claws had formed over their fingers.

At the same time, chains began appearing around some of the Shadow Wraiths.

They were thin, black chains that seemed to be made from shadows and shadow energy. They wrapped around their bodies before hanging from their backs and arms.

A few seconds later, the dark energy disappeared.

Ethan opened his Legion panel and checked the Shadow Wraith Legion.

Ethan read through the changes.

The Shadow Wraiths had become stronger.

He closed the panel and looked at them again.

Some had sharp spectral claws covering their hands, while others had phantom chains hanging from their bodies.

"So Shadow Strike evolved into Spectral Claw, while Shadow Bind evolved into Phantom Chains."

Ethan looked at the two groups.

They were still Shadow Wraiths, but the evolution had given them different abilities.

"Looks like the Shadow Wraiths have been split into two types."

The next wave had begun.

The ground began to shake.

Cracks spread across the sandy ground as one Reaper after another crawled out.

Ethan watched as the monsters emerged.

They were Level 16, six levels higher than him.

Ethan instantly activated his Legion Formation skill.

[Legion Formation activated.]

The shadows around Ethan suddenly darkened.

In an instant, 480 Shadow Wraiths were summoned from his Legion Space.

Their sudden appearance filled the battlefield with a dark aura.

Ethan looked toward the Reapers.

"Six each."

The Shadow Wraiths moved.

Three with Phantom Chains surrounded each Reaper, while three with Spectral Claws moved into position behind them.

The Reapers raised their blades.

The first group attacked.

Black chains shot through the air.

The Reapers swung their blades, cutting through some of them, but more chains appeared from different directions and wrapped around their arms and legs.

Three Wraiths pulled at the chains from different directions.

The Reapers struggled, but their movements became slower.

Then the other three Wraiths attacked.

The claws tore through their carapaces, while the shadow energy damaged their life force.

The Reapers struggled against the chains, but the three Wraiths kept pulling them back while the other three continued attacking.

The first Reaper collapsed, and the others soon followed. Ethan watched through the eyes of his legion as six Shadow Wraiths overwhelmed a Level 16 Reaper.

The evolution had made a bigger difference than he expected.

And this was only the beginning. Soon, he would have his second legion.
