Gene Fusion System: Crime Hunter
Chapter 1433 - 710: Temporary Leave? Complicated Feelings_2
This also took Cai Junfeng a bit by surprise.
And looking at him, Cai Junfeng seemed like he wanted to say something but stopped.
His expression at this moment was clearly a bit grim.
Luo Fei could only tell him:
"Cai Junfeng, things aren’t always going to develop the way you imagine."
"Some people may go through certain changes after a period of time. Their life experience and their personality can, at times, affect the decisions they make."
Although Luo Fei hoped that Cai Junfeng could calmly accept reality,
after a brief silence, Cai Junfeng finally spoke.
"Mr. Luo, how about... we hand this case over to you to investigate."
Turned out,
quite a few of Cai Junfeng’s classmates had heard about his previous exploits in solving cases.
So they wanted him to help look into this case.
But in Old Cai’s view,
if he ended up uncovering something off,
he’d be very upset.
He didn’t want to be the one to discover that someone he admired was actually a murderer.
This wasn’t just for the other person’s sake,
it was also for his own.
"To be honest, a couple of days ago the higher?ups already talked to me. They hoped I would take charge of this case, because the local station really couldn’t find any evidence of his crime."
"So they wanted someone who knows Shi Wenbo—like me—to step forward and get to the bottom of it as soon as possible. But I’m worried that my own judgment might be wrong."
But hearing this, his tone clearly carried some embarrassment.
Luo Fei, however, smiled.
"Cai Junfeng, I thought it was something major. So this is what’s been bothering you?"
Looking at Luo Fei, he seemed a little amused.
Cai Junfeng couldn’t help but sigh.
"Mr. Luo, I don’t really want to admit it, but some things really don’t go the way we wish. Most of the time we end up facing setbacks and difficulties."
"I also never wanted to cause you trouble."
But after hearing what he said,
Luo Fei actually found it a bit funny.
"Cai Junfeng, are you joking? I’ve never said that you needing our help is the same as causing us trouble. Aren’t you misunderstanding something?"
Seeing the questioning look in Luo Fei’s eyes,
a hint of puzzlement on his face,
Cai Junfeng suddenly felt a bit awkward.
"Mr. Luo, so you don’t care about this at all?"
"Why should I care? At certain stages in life, admiring someone more capable than yourself is about as normal as it gets, isn’t it?"
As Luo Fei spoke, he immediately prepared to set off,
to investigate this case.
But as he watched Luo Fei about to leave,
Li Yu at the side still felt a bit worried.
"Mr. Luo, I know you mean well. But what about Tang Siqi’s case?"
"Are we just going to let it go like this?"
Seeing Li Yu’s surprise,
and his disbelief—he thought they weren’t going to dig deeper into Tang Siqi’s case anymore—
but noticing Li Yu’s doubt,
Luo Fei said,
"Li Yu, you don’t need to worry about that. I do intend to investigate this incident in depth. But we, as police, do have to be rigorous enough."
"Besides, if we don’t make it look like we’re being a bit lax, how are we supposed to give others a chance to slip up?"
Luo Fei’s words made Li Yu immediately grasp his intent.
"I get it. Then over the next period, we’ll have Su Jianfan take charge of this case. Let the tech division under him keep tabs on this Dong Jialin’s social media accounts."
"Sounds good. I’ll leave it to you."
Clearly, from Luo Fei’s perspective, he actually admired Li Yu quite a bit.
This also showed that, in some respects, the two of them had a strong tacit understanding.
After a while,
once Luo Fei arrived at his destination,
he saw that the mother and daughter in the house were somewhat startled when they saw him and his team.
"Officer, are you the head of the Major Crimes Unit who was on the news before? I really didn’t expect you to personally come investigate this case. That’s quite a surprise."
"What’s so strange about that? Your neighbor happens to be my friend’s classmate. They used to be good buddies. So I have to come and take a look."
But the moment they saw Luo Fei,
the mother and daughter clearly became flustered.
"Mr. Luo, you must be mistaken. Sure, we get along well with the gentleman next door, but we’re just neighbors."
"And when that man came to our home, he was perfectly fine. He had his accident on his way back home after leaving here. So logically, we shouldn’t be suspects, right?"
Seeing how uneasy the two of them were,
Luo Fei said,
"Ladies, if things were really that simple, that’d be great. But based on the information we have so far, there are still many suspicious points in this case. So we need to look deeper, and I genuinely hope we can get to the truth as soon as possible, to prove the innocence of you two."
But after hearing this from Luo Fei,
the two women found it a bit hard to believe.
They almost couldn’t trust what he was saying.
"Officer, do you really mean that?"
"Yes. To this day, we still find it hard to believe he actually did this. It’s really quite unbelievable."
Seeing the mother and daughter so embarrassed,
their expressions also shifted as they spoke.
Luo Fei said seriously,
"Ladies, from your previous statements, we can clearly tell that your relationship with this man wasn’t as simple as it looks on the surface, was it?"
"Especially if he fell for Ms. Song Jinyu. In that case, he might have done something impulsive—only we might still know nothing about it. Or perhaps we just don’t yet understand the motive behind his actions."
Luo Fei’s words made Song Jinyu’s heart jolt.
"No way, that shouldn’t be possible. He knows I’ve been married. Twice, in fact. We’ve even discussed this before..."
Seeing Song Jinyu’s eyes dodge,
Luo Fei remained very serious.
"Ms. Song, if he wasn’t interested in you, then why did he only go eat at your workplace when you were on shift? I don’t buy that."
"And those scars on your body—they were caused by your ex?husband, weren’t they? Even after the two of you split, he didn’t actually let you go. On the contrary, he kept bothering you, didn’t he? Whether you’re willing to admit it or not, that’s all it is."
As he spoke, Luo Fei spread his hands.
Seeing how serious he was,
Song Jinyu could only take a deep breath.
"Mr. Luo, what you’re saying does make some sense. But we’ve only known each other a few months. He wouldn’t go as far as killing someone for me, would he? Isn’t that a bit too extreme?"
"You can’t say for sure. Sometimes, the more of a genius someone is, the more likely they are to become extremely obsessive. They just rarely admit this themselves. And I don’t think his feelings for you sprang up overnight."
Luo Fei’s words left Song Jinyu feeling rather depressed.
"Mr. Luo, the victim was completely disfigured at the time. You couldn’t even see what he looked like. All ten of his fingers—the fingerprints were destroyed as well."
"That actually shows, from another angle, that the killer may have had an intense hatred for the victim. Take Shi Wenbo, for example—back when he came to my workplace, he was always very enthusiastic toward me. At the time, I didn’t feel anything was particularly off."
Seeing how stunned Song Jinyu was,
she practically couldn’t bring herself to believe that someone around her was a murderer.
Luo Fei, however, noticed the movie ticket stubs on the coffee table nearby.
They piqued his curiosity.
"Ladies, are these the stubs from the movie you went to see earlier?"
"Yes, on the day my ex?husband had his accident, we went to the movies."
"I really never imagined something like this would happen. It’s truly shocking."
