Genetic Engineer in a Tamer's World

Chapter 143: The Alchemical Blueprint

The Colosseum’s cheers faded as Kale Ardentis walked down the steps. The arena’s southern platform was cool, offering a brief escape from the burning heat.

His victory was absolute, leaving the spectators in complete disbelief. He felt the lingering gaze of the royal siblings.

Neo remained coiled in his shadow, conveying silent satisfaction. The small hydra played its part perfectly during the regulation.

Kale adjusted his headband, ensuring the gold mesh beneath was secure. He walked through the corridors, calculating the second trial.

A soft silk rustle echoed from the shadows. He did not stop, his green eyes tracking the figure.

Princess Aria stood under the columns, her crimson robes catching the breeze. Her red hair glowed, her yellow eyes watching.

"A magnificent display of craftsmanship, Master Kale."

Aria murmured, her voice carrying a soft warmth.

"The grandmasters are still arguing about the precision of your runic engraving. It seems my brother is not the only one who is eager to claim your allegiance."

As she drew closer, she let her passive charm radiate. A warm pressure filled the corridor, a net forcing submission.

Deep within his mind, the barriers of his Mental Bastion rose, filtering out the charm. He stood directly meeting her.

Instead of showing his usual submissive mask, Kale took a deliberate step forward, crossing into her space. The shift was dizzying.

"The Princess is remarkably bold to corner a common researcher in the dark."

Kale said, his voice lowering into a calm, rich baritone.

"If your brother is boasting of my talents, you should know that I do not sell my loyalty for empty promises."

Aria’s breath hitched, a genuine, furious blush painting her cheeks. It was the first time a tamer stepped so boldly.

She tried to raise her golden fan, but Kale’s hand moved with disciplined speed, catching the edge of the fan.

"A fan is a beautiful shield, Your Highness, but it is useless when the enemy is already behind your lines."

Kale murmured, his face mere inches from hers.

"If you want my allegiance, you must show me the true depth of your own pool. I require more than whispers."

Aria took a slow, deep breath, her heart pounding against her ribs. Her playful, mischievous persona was completely shattered.

"You are a very dangerous man, Kale Ardentis."

She whispered, her yellow eyes shimmering.

"The second trial begins in an hour. It is a test of alchemical stabilisation. If you win the ancient core, perhaps I will show you the true depth of my pool."

She turned and walked away, her graceful figure dissolving. Kale smiled darkly, releasing his grip on the golden fan.

He returned to the preparation chamber, where Lazek Oberon sat in a wooden chair, puffing slowly on his pipe.

"The Princess is playing a dangerous game, kid."

Lazek said, blowing a ring of bitter smoke toward the ceiling.

"But she is right about the second trial. The council finalised the parameters. It is a Pillcraft test under pressure."

Kale sat down on a wooden bench, pulling a fresh scroll of alchemical formulas toward him.

"What are the specific rules?"

Lazek took another slow puff of his pipe, his dark eyes reflecting the embers.

"The candidates must refine a volatile biological catalyst within forty minutes. You will be provided with raw fire sap."

The Grandmaster paused, letting the weight of the instructions sink in.

"If your potion shows even a minor chemical variance, you will be disqualified. The heirs are utilising earth minerals."

"Then we will use the liquid fire sap and slime compounds to craft a perfect stabilising elixir."

Kale noted flatly. He unrolled a fresh sheet of parchment and sketched the alchemical blueprint for a unique medicine.

It was an advanced formula designed to integrate the earth properties of his Terra Shell and the Ignis Core.

This elixir would be capable of stabilising volatile fire mana without suffering any degradation. He showed the sketch.

"The construction of such an elixir requires a pristine, high-density mineral catalyst."

Lazek said, running his pale finger over the paper.

"Standard granite won’t hold the fire sap’s volatility. You need a raw shard of deep earth crystal."

Kale nodded quietly, his green eyes reflecting the faint glow of the scripts. He spent the remaining thirty minutes refining his manual control.

The hour passed quickly, and the blast of the trumpets signalled the second trial. Kale stood up, adjusting his robes.

The grand colosseum was packed, the crowd’s noise a deafening roar. He took his place at the workbench.

The examiners sat on the high dais, their faces solemn. Grandmaster Kraul stood at the edge of the platform.

"Silence,"

Kraul commanded, and the arena instantly fell quiet.

"The second trial of the Artificer path is the Test of Alchemical Stabilisation. You have forty minutes to refine your elixirs. Begin."

The announcement triggered a collective rush. The candidates scrambled to ignite their portable cauldrons under the pressure.

Kale ignored the chaos around him, moving calmly. He secured his Solvane Cauldron onto the central bench.

The creature came alive, its inner veins glowing green. He poured the volatile fire sap inside, the fluid bubbling rapidly.

To prevent the sap from oxidising, Kale added Frost Lotus and ash fern. He did not rely on standard alchemical timers.

He adjusted the burner with micro-movements, keeping the temperature within a strict, narrow variance. The fluid slowly thickened, turning into a red gel.

Now came the critical phase. He picked up the raw shard of deep earth crystal and ground it into a fine dust before introducing it to the gel.

The mixture instantly thickened, turning into a heavy, dark grey paste that resisted the flow of his mana. The temperature in the cauldron rose, and a metallic scent filled the area.

Splicing the volatile fire sap with this mineral paste was a demanding operation. The slime’s biological fibres were aggressive, rejecting the rigid granite structure.

The moment the elements touched, a violent rejection cascade was triggered. The cells began to rupture, turning the mixture into a brittle, cracked substance.

Kale remained composed, his fingers moving with speed. He called upon his taming bond, and the shadow beneath his boots rippled as Neo directed his taming affinity.

Under the silent, commanding pressure of the taming force, the chaotic cellular friction vanished. The rebellious cells ceased their resistance, rapidly absorbing the fire gel and fusing with the core.

The dark purple discolouration faded, replaced by a vibrant crimson glow. The tissue wrapped around the metal core, its fibres locking into the carved grooves.

Kale picked up his carving knife and performed the final micro-sutures with surgical precision. He connected the runic matrix’s energy pathways to the biological nodes.

The completed elixir sat on the workbench, a pulsing crimson sphere that beat with a steady cadence like a living heart. It was a flawless Aether Elixir, a masterwork of Pillcraft.

"Synthesis complete."

Kale announced flatly, stepping back from the workbench.

The hall was dead silent. The process had taken twenty minutes, far ahead of the allotted time. The clean execution of his crafting spellbound the audience.

Kraul stood up, gesturing to the testing assistants. "Bring the testing array," he ordered. Two heavy, copper-clad towers were wheeled onto the platform.

They aligned the towers with the Aether Elixir, the air crackling with tension as the judges prepared to test its structural integrity under thermal stress.

"Initiating first stage surge,"

Kraul commanded, and a beam of pure fire mana erupted from the towers, slamming directly into the elixir.

The crimson sphere absorbed the energy instantly, showing no signs of strain. The volcanic resin coating distributed the thermal load.

"Increase to 60%."

Kraul said, his eyes narrowing in surprise as the beam thickened, the intense heat making the stone pedestal groan.

The Aether Elixir continued to pulse, its organic, curved channels directing the fire mana toward the deep earth crystal at its core, creating a perfect balance. The medicine showed no sign of strain.

"Take it to the absolute peak."

Kraul growled, and the final surge of fire was a blinding pillar of light that obscured the workbench entirely.

WHEN the smoke cleared, the Aether Elixir sat perfectly intact on the pedestal, glowing with a brilliant, steady light. There was not a single crack.

The integration of the earth and fire elements was absolute, a display of masterwork craftsmanship. Oram stood up, his pleasant face carrying a mixture of awe.

"Flawless,"

Oram announced, his voice carrying over the crowd.

"The energy distribution is perfectly balanced, and the chemical stability shows zero degradation under maximum stress. I have never seen such a clean synthesis from a candidate."

Kraul let out a low rumble of approval, nodding his head. "The toolcraft engraving is precise, and the choice of volcanic resin was handled with master level competence. You have passed, boy."

From the royal dais, Princess Aria smiled, her yellow eyes gleaming with an intrigued light as she tapped her golden fan. Prince Renard let out a boisterous laugh.

"Well played, tamer!"

Renard bellowed, his voice carrying over the crowd.

"A masterwork indeed!"

The other recruits stared in pure shock, their arrogance replaced by a crushing sense of inadequacy. Julian, the general’s son, realised he never stood a chance.

Kale offered a formal half-bow to the examiners, his expression remaining a mask of stoic detachment as he stored the completed Aether Elixir.

The second step of the grand Zenith Competition was finally complete. With his masterwork validated once more, the determined Genetic Engineer prepared for the final challenge.
