Chapter 102 - 99: The Advantage Is Mine
Chapter 102: Chapter 99: The Advantage Is Mine
Who knows which bastard started the saying that a woman pursuing a man was as easy as tearing through a thin veil.
If only it were that simple.
If the guy wasn’t interested, that veil was more likely a chain-link fence.
Zhong Qing had been chatting with Chen Jingle for a while and had learned a good deal about his daily routine—like how he woke up early to run and went to bed early every night. However, this was strictly a surface-level understanding. They hadn’t made any further progress, mostly because they were separated by the thick, impenetrable barrier of the internet.
Of course, the internet wasn’t the only reason.
Li Yuting held out her hand. "Let me see your chat history."
"No!" Zhong Qing clutched her phone tightly to her chest.
"Be good and let me see!"
"No way, Brother Ting!"
Li Yuting lunged forward and grabbed her. "Tsk! What’s there to be shy about? I doubt your chats are as explicit as ours!"
Zhong Qing laughed, struggling to resist. "Well, they aren’t."
"Then what’s the problem?" Li Yuting successfully snatched the phone. "Let me see what you two usually talk about..."
Defeated, Zhong Qing shyly covered her face.
But as soon as Li Yuting looked at the screen, her smile vanished. "No, seriously, girl, are you missing a brain cell or did you get water in your brain while showering? Who talks to a blind date like this? With how often you guys chat, any normal person would be in the flirting stage by now. But you? You’re still asking him how to solve English and Political Science questions! Unbelievable! Did you not listen to a single word I told you?"
It was such a blockhead move that just looking at it nearly gave her an aneurysm.
Flustered and annoyed, Zhong Qing tried to snatch her phone back, but Ye Zixing was quicker and swiped it away. After reading through the logs with Yang Qiuyun, the two burst into hysterical laughter.
They couldn’t believe that in the year 2024, someone could still chat with their crush like this. Was she really a modern college student?
Zhong Qing looked dead inside. "He’s most interested in this stuff. How else am I supposed to talk to him?"
Li Yuting sighed, frustrated by her friend’s incompetence. "Even if he’s only interested in your academic knowledge, you can’t just hand him the answers so easily. You have to make him work for it. Otherwise, he’s just going to treat you like a free study bot."
"Exactly!" Ye Zixing chimed in. "You have to learn how to advance the relationship. Keep him on the hook! If he doesn’t make a move, you have to. Since he agreed to the blind date, it means he isn’t totally opposed to you. You just need to flirt a little, and you’ll have a chance. I told you to find common ground, not to *only* talk about common ground! You need to chat about interesting people and things in your daily life!"
Zhong Qing actually wanted to argue that the guy on the other end really did seem to find political science exceptionally interesting. But on second thought, that sounded way too bizarre to say out loud.
Li Yuting took another sip of her milk tea and said lazily, "Blind dates are basically like opening mystery boxes. From his photo, we thought you hit the jackpot, but your conversations have gone completely off the rails. If you ask me, you might as well get your master’s, then a Ph.D., and become an academic advisor. Then, you can make him your grad student, and while you’re at it, you two can *research* how to make babies. Playing master and apprentice—wouldn’t that be beautiful?"
"What nonsense are you spouting? You’re crazy!" Zhong Qing’s face flushed bright red.
Li Yuting really had no filter. How could she even suggest making him her grad student? Besides, by the time she became an academic advisor, Chen Jingle would probably be nearly forty.
She thought, "Yikes! How weird!"
Ye Zixing pushed up her glasses and rested her chin on her hand in thought. "Blind dates are usually supposed to match men who don’t know how to date with women who are hard to please. But the problem here is that Qingqing has been single since birth and doesn’t know the first thing about dating, and the guy seems as dense as a board. That’s a huge problem."
Yang Qiuyun dropped a bombshell. "I bet even if you two actually got married, you wouldn’t even know how to make a baby."
Zhong Qing’s mouth twitched. "It’s not *that* bad. I’ve watched... *cough*."
The room instantly fell silent as meaningful smiles crept onto everyone’s faces.
Li Yuting waved a hand dismissively. "I think the biggest problem is that you can’t meet up. Typing all the words in the world online can never replace meeting in person."
"Makes sense." Ye Zixing nodded. "Qingqing, you should figure out a way to meet up with him. Who knows? Maybe after meeting face-to-face, he’ll develop feelings for you, and you two can make it official."
"How? I’m in the provincial capital, and he’s back in our hometown. We’re hundreds of kilometers apart." Zhong Qing sighed, a faint trace of gloom settling between her brows. She wished she had a magical Anywhere Door.
Li Yuting couldn’t care less about the distance. "Just have him come over here. Or you can go back for a visit. The National Day Golden Week holiday is coming up anyway. Meet up, grab a bite, and take a stroll to heat things up. But skip the movies. Films these days are absolute trash, and sitting in a theater is a pure waste of time. You have to pick an activity where you guys actually interact."
Yang Qiuyun chimed in, "Meet up first, and then the best strategy is to just charge right in. Once the deed is done, make him take responsibility for you."
The others were stunned. They never expected that the boldest girl in the dorm would actually be her!
Facing everyone’s shocked gazes, Yang Qiuyun calmly twirled her twin-tails. "I’m not joking. The guy seems like a straight-laced, honest dude. I mean, he’s been chatting with you this long and it’s been entirely about academic stuff! A man like that might be a bit boring to date, but he’s absolute husband material. Just charge right in; as long as he doesn’t resist, it’s pretty much a done deal."
"Oh, so you’re an expert now?"
"Hey, that’s how it’s always written in the novels!"
"..."
They all groaned collectively. And here they thought she actually had some profound insight. Relying on romance novels was way too unreliable.
Ye Zixing hummed. "Anyway, just don’t act like a desperate simp."
"Oh?!"
"Come on, come on! Let’s hear what our dear student Ye Zixing has to say on the matter."
