Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Mainly Likes Mature Ones
"Friends Circle? State banquet pastry? What the heck?"
Zhong Qing hurriedly opened her older sister’s Friends Circle.
[Thanks to the big shot, I’m now someone who has eaten the state banquet pastry, Honey Date Pastry. So happy~] — 10 minutes ago
Eesh~
The showing off was practically overflowing from the screen. Many relatives and friends had liked it, expressing their absolute envy.
Zhong Qing suddenly felt a little unwell. "I’m jealous, I’m definitely jealous!"
However, she wondered, "Was this pastry made by that handsome guy from earlier? I couldn’t tell at all." Zhong Qing was secretly shocked. Seeing his gentle and refined appearance, how did he look like a chef? She would believe it if someone said he was a celebrity or an internet influencer. Weren’t chefs supposed to have big faces, round bodies, and thick necks?
Zhong Qing curiously asked, "What level is this culinary skill? State banquet?"
"It’s hard to say about state banquets, but it’s at least at the level of a hotel pastry chef! Moreover, this is just a hobby for him. He’s a pure talent monster, got it? If he really made it his main profession, I feel applying for a five-star hotel pastry chef position wouldn’t be a problem. Back when I was dating your brother-in-law, he took me to eat dim sum at the Sheraton, and I feel it wasn’t even as good as this.
"Not to mention what I told you before, his flower-raising skills are also top-notch. These are all just his hobbies. So, do you know why I said you aren’t good enough for him?"
Zhong Jing mercilessly dealt a severe blow to her.
This younger sister of hers had indeed been acting a bit too arrogant lately, walking around with her nose in the air. She had no idea where she picked up this awful habit. University life gave many people an illusion, as if they could easily achieve class transcendence, completely unaware that they would be knocked back to their original forms once they graduated. Although Zhong Qing hadn’t reached that stage yet, she was showing signs of it, and Zhong Jing would not allow this.
If a person couldn’t maintain a clear head, they would easily be deceived by external information, lose their proper judgment, and easily make the wrong choices. Reality was very cruel. She was an adult now, a university student; she should somewhat understand this.
Zhong Qing was unconvinced. "We haven’t even interacted, so how do you know I’m not good enough for him? What if he just likes my type?"
"Heh, self-awareness is a virtue, Zhong Qing!"
"How am I lacking self-awareness? I’m also very excellent, okay?"
"Ha, you go to a mere non-Double First Class university, and in four years, you haven’t won a single heavyweight award. How do you have the nerve to say that?"
"Hey, hey, hey, it’s fine if you target me, but you’re not allowed to talk about us non-Double First Class university students like that!"
Zhong Qing was triggered.
’A non-Double First Class degree is a criminal record, a second-tier degree means prison time, and an associate degree is a life sentence’—this was originally just an internet meme, but in today’s economic situation, it was the truest reflection of job hunting.
One must know that when she had just gotten into university four years ago, although it was merely a non-Double First Class first-tier university, she was already satisfied. And now? She heard that quite a few of the seniors who graduated last year could only work in sales for a base salary. More exaggeratedly, some even became staff members at milk tea shops and hot pot restaurants.
When she heard this previously, she practically doubted her life choices. In the past, she had no concept of the ’cheap labor’ mentioned in textbooks, but now she finally understood. The era had sent away the cheap migrant workers, only to welcome cheap university students.
Seeing that she had teased her enough, Zhong Jing decided to stop. After all, her original intention was merely to make her younger sister more clear-headed, preventing her from being blinded by the outside Huahua world; it wasn’t meant to be an oppressive form of education.
"Weren’t you complaining about him being older? What? Now that you see he’s a handsome guy, it doesn’t matter anymore?"
"It’s not about whether he’s handsome or not; it’s mainly that I like mature men."
Zhong Qing had already completely given up on saving face. It didn’t matter. Her sister could laugh at her however she wanted; as long as she could date such an excellent and handsome guy, she wouldn’t lose out either way. Whether male or female, for ordinary people, high aesthetic value was a scarce resource. Women could at least improve their looks through makeup, but men basically didn’t wear makeup. Therefore, handsome guys were truly handsome!
Tsk!
Seeing her younger sister begging for mercy, Zhong Jing felt immensely proud and replied, "I can only say I’ll try my best."
"Please, you absolutely must get his contact info for me, Sis! I’m begging you! The happiness of the rest of my life depends entirely on you!" Zhong Qing sent several animated stickers of someone crying and kowtowing in a single breath.
Zhong Jing wanted to laugh upon seeing this. Eesh~ I still Like You for your previously untamed look.
Then Nanny Liang came over. "How is it? Did you send it to your younger sister?"
"Yeah, I sent it over, but what I’m worried about now is that Chen Jingle might not be interested in her."
"Hey, destiny is a hard thing to predict. It’s good enough that you can help play matchmaker; the rest is up to them. Let Liang City help put in a good word too. It shouldn’t be a big problem, and it should work out."
"That makes sense." Zhong Jing had also worried her heart out for this younger sister, deeply afraid that water would momentarily enter her brain and she’d end up with some blonde-haired delinquent. If that happened, her own blood vessels would truly burst.
"Yo, who’s this handsome guy?"
Zhong Qing tapped open the photo her older sister had sent over again, wanting to admire it a few more times. Suddenly, a roommate’s voice echoed in her ear, startling her so much that she subconsciously locked her screen and pulled her hands back to hide the phone against her chest.
"Eesh, you’re even hiding it! There’s definitely something going on! Let me see, or else I’m going to scream!" Her roommate Li Yuting revealed a little devilish smile.
"No, no," Zhong Qing hurriedly shook her head in denial.
This completely unconvincing cover-up attempt clearly confirmed Li Yuting’s suspicions even more.
"Ooh, you’re blushing. Let me see quickly!" Li Yuting leaned closer, revealing a predatory smile like she was about to eat a child.
The other two roommates also looked over.
Zhong Qing was on the verge of tears. "Really, there’s nothing. There’s not even a shadow of anything yet." As soon as she said that, she knew she was in trouble.
Everyone’s eyes lit up. "What’s the deal? Unrequited love?"
Zhong Qing stammered, "No, I haven’t even gotten his contact info yet."
"Tell us quickly, what exactly is going on!"
"Yuting, did you see him just now? What does he look like?"
"I can only say he’s very handsome!"
"Really? Are you sure it’s not a catfish photo?"
"Ah, class is starting, let’s focus on class first!"
Facing her roommates’ inquiring and teasing gazes, Zhong Qing’s ears turned completely red.
Li Yuting let out a sinister chuckle. "Fine, I’ll let you off for now. But when we get back to the dorm later, you’d better be smart and confess everything truthfully. Otherwise, you know my methods. Hmph!"
Zhong Qing covered her face. She was truly doomed this time!
"Liang City, come over and help carry the dishes. We’re ready to eat," Teacher Zhong called out from the kitchen.
Liang City immediately jumped up from the sofa. "Coming, coming!"
"I’ll come help too." Mr. Liang followed along.
Chen Jingle was still babysitting. Little Mingyue didn’t continue clinging to him; she had climbed down from his body and stood on the sofa, though she still reached her hand out for him to hold. Eesh~ What a clingy little one!
After all the dishes were brought to the table, Teacher Zhong finally had time to come over and carry Little Mingyue away.
"I’m so sorry, she didn’t cause you any trouble, did she?"
"It’s fine, Little Mingyue is very well-behaved." Chen Jingle smiled. He was just acting as a cat tree, and besides, a one-year-old girl wasn’t heavy anyway.
Teacher Zhong breathed a secret sigh of relief. "I’ll put her in the crib and mix some formula for her, then we’ll be good."
Liang City then invited Chen Jingle over to wash his hands and eat. Everyone sat gathered around the dining table.
Liang City chuckled and said, "Let me state this upfront. These are all home-cooked dishes, so the taste definitely won’t compare to a master chef like you."
Chen Jingle hurriedly shook his head. "No, no, no, it’s already very sumptuous. It looks delicious at first glance."
"Then please help review it after you eat, and I can improve on it later," Teacher Zhong chimed in.
Chen Jingle said modestly, "I wouldn’t dare to review it, but we can definitely exchange cooking experiences with each other."
Having eaten and drunk their fill, both the hosts and the guest were thoroughly satisfied.
Mr. Liang and Nanny Liang stopped Chen Jingle when he tried to help wash the dishes, while Liang City pulled him over to the windowsill.
"Um, well, this is Teacher Zhong’s younger sister’s WeChat. Add her."
Chen Jingle was dumbfounded. "Huh? What did you say?!"
