Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Life Actually Doesn’t Have That Many Spectators

Chen Kexin nodded. "Yes, I drink another bottle before bed."

"Huh? So you’re supposed to drink milk before bed too?" Chen Qiyun thought. She frowned and silently committed it to memory. Turning her head, she asked, "What about you, Ziyin?"

The slightly dark-skinned Chen Ziyin said, "I also drink it twice a day, but I drink bagged pasteurized fresh milk. My mom says the boxed kind isn’t good. She always buys groceries at the supermarket in the morning and conveniently picks up the bagged kind. Then she pours it into a cup and heats it in the microwave. If you don’t drink it, the sealed bag can stay in the fridge for two days without any issues."

"Bagged pasteurized fresh milk..." Chen Qiyun silently made another note. "No wonder Chen Ziyin is taller than Chen Kexin."

"Then what time do you guys usually go to sleep at night?" Chen Qiyun asked.

"Before ten thirty," Chen Ziyin replied.

"Around eleven," Chen Kexin answered. "Even though I get into bed at ten thirty, my mind usually wanders for a bit before I can completely zone out."

Chen Qiyun made further calculations in her head. "No wonder they’re both taller than me. It seems Chen Jingle was right after all. I need to eat more meat, eggs, and milk, and ensure I get enough sleep."

She certainly didn’t want to still be 1.52 meters tall when she turned eighteen or twenty.

"Damn this height, grow a bit faster! I’ve been sleeping early, waking up early, and drinking milk for two consecutive days. Why aren’t I growing?" Chen Qiyun clenched her fists in annoyance. How great it would be if two strongmen could come—one pulling her head and the other pulling her ankles—to stretch her a few centimeters taller!

Arriving at school, just as Chen Qiyun was about to head upstairs, she suddenly heard the Chinese teacher’s voice from behind.

"Chen Qiyun, help me collect your class’s Chinese homework."

Chen Qiyun looked back and saw Li Beixing not far behind her, holding a document bag. Today, her outfit was different from what she wore before—a light blue floral dress. Heaven knew where she got so many clothes.

"Oh, got it."

Chen Qiyun actually wanted to point out that this was the class monitor’s or the Chinese representative’s job and had nothing to do with her. However, face-to-face with the teacher, she simply couldn’t muster the courage to be tough.

"But it doesn’t matter. I’ll just have the class monitor collect it later," she thought. Collecting homework was truly an offensive task. Even as "Sister Yun," she had no desire to do such work.

Walking into the classroom, sure enough, the class monitor had already arrived. She walked over and tapped the desk, TAP TAP. "Class Monitor, the Chinese teacher told you to collect the homework and bring it over." At the same time, she handed over her own Chinese homework to save herself a trip later.

The class monitor was a somewhat bookish boy with a great temper. Hearing this, he nodded. "Okay, got it. Thank you."

The aloof and cool Chen Qiyun kept a straight face, gave a slight nod, and returned to her seat.

The class monitor walked up to the podium and wrote on the blackboard: "Submit Chinese homework to the Class Monitor. Submit the rest to the respective subject representatives." The font was large, so any student who saw it naturally knew what to do. Those who hadn’t finished would have to quickly borrow someone’s to hastily copy it.

Later, students walked into the classroom one after another. Her desk-mate, a petite girl, arrived a bit later. Seeing the words on the blackboard, she asked the moment she sat down, "Hey, Chen Qiyun, did you finish your homework?"

"Finished."

In the past, Chen Qiyun had often forgotten to do her homework or hadn’t finished it, relying on borrowing hers to "check the answers."

"You finished all of it?" her desk-mate asked, somewhat surprised.

Chen Qiyun gave an affirmative "Mhm," stopped talking, opened her textbook, and began reading aloud softly for morning study. This was because she had spotted Li Beixing appearing at the classroom door.

Although Li Beixing wasn’t the homeroom teacher, in middle school, morning study sessions were basically dedicated to reading Chinese, followed by English, and then politics, history, and geography. This showed the importance of the Chinese subject.

Seeing Li Beixing appear at the podium, the bookish class monitor hurriedly handed in the homework—minus a few missing ones—and explained which students hadn’t submitted theirs and what their reasons were.

Li Beixing’s original intention was to have Chen Qiyun help collect the homework and take the opportunity to give her a slight reprimand. She hadn’t expected the girl to actually push the task onto the class monitor. She instantly grumbled internally about that little brat Chen Qiyun slacking off.

"She’s lazy in her studies too. She clearly has decent talent, but she’s just lazy, so her grades are stuck in the middle." Li Beixing felt a flash of disappointment over her unfulfilled potential. "I’ll see if I can find a chance to talk to her parents. If this continues, she won’t be able to test into a key high school."

Right around the time Chen Qiyun left for school, Chen Jingle arrived at the Teacher College’s track and field to exercise as usual.

Although yesterday’s interview seemed to have gained a bit too much traction online—when he woke up this morning, he found the likes and comments were still rising—he was still somewhat worried before leaving the house. But until he was officially driven out and banned from entering the Teacher College, he still hoped to exercise there as usual. It was truly hard to find a more suitable venue nearby. It was standard, brand-new, spacious, with a good environment and great atmosphere.

Oh, and there was the cheap and convenient cafeteria breakfast—even though he had to randomly grab a student willing to lend their meal card.

It felt as if he had returned to his school days, and even his mindset felt a few years younger.

At first, Chen Jingle was afraid he would be recognized or closely watched, which would make him extremely uncomfortable. Facts proved he seemed to be overthinking it. Early in the morning, aside from a very few students, the vast majority were still sleeping in their dorms. Even if they were up, they were just passing by the track, hurrying to the library, or finding a deserted corner to memorize books. They wouldn’t even spare him an extra glance.

Chen Jingle breathed a huge sigh of relief. "Like I said, life doesn’t have that many spectators! I shouldn’t take myself too seriously. It’s not like I’m some big celebrity. Walking on the street, who would pay attention to a stranger?"

Even if a real celebrity came, they might not attract that much attention. There was a difference between being on stage and off stage.

Therefore, he put his mind at ease. As per routine, he warmed up first, then started jogging. Today’s goal was still five kilometers, striving to finish within forty minutes. After several consecutive days, his physical fitness was indeed much stronger than before. A week ago, just being able to walk five kilometers would have been considered a true miracle.

However, what Chen Jingle didn’t notice was that on the stadium bleachers, a girl holding a book suddenly had her eyes light up when she saw him appear. Sneakily raising her phone, she took a photo—CLICK—and sent it to her dorm group chat.

"Besties, that handsome guy really came to run again!"

Well! In truth, what universities lacked the least were people who did things on a whim. Would someone wake up early and come to the track to wait just to watch Chen Jingle?

The answer was yes!

As for what they were after? It could only be said that everyone’s thoughts were different. Seeking a bit of amusement counted as one reason. Looking at a handsome guy counted as another.

It was during his fourth lap that Chen Jingle realized something was wrong. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a girl on the bleachers whose gaze seemed constantly fixed on him.

Chen Jingle thought he was seeing things. It would be very awkward if he was just flattering himself. However, when he finished his fifth lap and happened to pass by the front of the bleachers, the girl smiled and waved at him.

Chen Jingle was speechless.

"Damn it!" he cursed inwardly. "What happened to ’life doesn’t have that many spectators’?"

Fortunately, the other party just waved. Operating on the principle of "as long as I’m not awkward, the one who’s awkward is someone else," Chen Jingle pretended nothing happened and continued running.

The girl on the bleachers didn’t get a response. Not only was she not angry, but she became even more interested.

"He really is handsome. I feel like his actual face looks even better than in the video. Lean, but healthy and energetic."
