Getting Stronger By Fighting
Chapter 1156 - 1154: Playing It Safe
Soon, Wang Zhan and his group arrived in Ten Thousand Sword City, and at a glance, the city was no longer a harmonious scene. It seemed deserted, the empty streets like an uninhabited wasteland, devoid of its previous peaceful scenery.
Wang Zhan slightly furrowed his brows and glanced at the protectors beside him before asking, "Didn’t you say that the armored man’s purpose was to make Ten Thousand Sword City his own faction? Your people here should hold some value to him, so he wouldn’t kill you so easily, right?"
"But why is there no one here now?"
The protectors exchanged glances and shook their heads.
Even they did not know what had happened.
One of the protectors quickly said, "Mr. Wang, when we left here, Ten Thousand Sword City wasn’t like this. Everyone resisted the armored man but still stayed in the city, knowing we had gone to seek reinforcements and that you’d arrive soon, so there was no reason for them to suddenly leave now. Something must have happened to cause this..."
Wang Zhan was puzzled. Could it be that the armored man had already acted against the people here?
But Wang Zhan had interacted with the people from Ten Thousand Sword City, and they were merely cowards who cherished life above all. So even if the armored man didn’t act against them, a bit of intimidation and temptation would surely make them follow his orders unconditionally.
The most important thing is, even if they could leave Ten Thousand Sword City, they likely wouldn’t choose to do so because even they wouldn’t know what lies beyond the city?
Though Wang Zhan had eradicated most of the demonic beasts nearby, there were still some remnants, and their strength exceeded his expectations. These people were not a match for those beasts.
Thinking of this, Wang Zhan spoke again: "It seems we need to find the armored man as soon as possible. Only by finding him might we uncover the full story. You all need to quickly check the surroundings; if you have news about the armored man, inform me immediately."
Wang Zhan finished speaking and cast his gaze upon the protectors around him.
The Hexagonal Golden Snake and Fire Qilin remained by Wang Zhan’s side; they didn’t need to run errands like this and could leave it to the protectors.
The protectors didn’t hesitate and hurried off.
With Wang Zhan by their side, they didn’t need to be overly fearful; no matter what happened, Wang Zhan surely wouldn’t stand by idly and would act promptly to resolve matters.
In no time, they searched throughout Ten Thousand Sword City but found no trace of anyone, as if the city had become a dead town.
Upon hearing the reports, Wang Zhan turned his gaze to the Hexagonal Golden Snake, who had also carefully examined the surroundings, but found no sign of life. In his perception range, there were no traces of anyone, proving that the people of Ten Thousand Sword City had vanished into thin air.
The Hexagonal Golden Snake slightly narrowed his eyes, hesitated for a moment, and his gaze suddenly grew heavy as he looked towards the Sword Tomb’s direction. He quickly said, "I can sense energy fluctuations from the Sword Tomb’s direction. Let’s hurry over; there might be a surprise waiting."
Wang Zhan and his group wasted no time, unconditionally believing the Hexagonal Golden Snake’s words. With his formidable strength, he surely wouldn’t sense wrongly.
The protectors exchanged glances. Though reluctant to follow Wang Zhan, fearing unforeseen circumstances at the Sword Tomb, they dared not stay in Ten Thousand Sword City. Its tranquility was the most frightening aspect, as nobody knew what had happened or where the residents had gone.
Hence, staying by Wang Zhan’s side was safest. Keeping this in mind, the group quickly followed Wang Zhan’s lead, rushing toward the Sword Tomb to see what had transpired there.
In a flash, they reached the Sword Tomb since it wasn’t far from Ten Thousand Sword City.
At their glance, the Sword Tomb’s gate was already wide open—not through mechanisms but by brute force, proving the intruder’s impatience and eagerness to enter the tomb.
This puzzled Wang Zhan; they had previously visited the Sword Tomb but hadn’t found anything, yet the Hexagonal Golden Snake and Sword Spirit hadn’t detected anything different, so they didn’t waste time there and left swiftly.
But since the other party came to the Sword Tomb, something must be drawing him there.
With this in mind, Wang Zhan hurried, preparing to enter the main gate. Just then, the Hexagonal Golden Snake stepped forward to stop him, shaking his head as he calmly said, "We don’t know what’s happening here yet, so it’d be better for me to check first. If help is needed, I’ll inform you promptly, and you can come in then."
Upon hearing this, Wang Zhan felt touched, clenched his fists, and said urgently, "Knowing there’s danger here, I can’t let you risk yourself alone. Naturally, I need to go in with you. Rest assured, we two can help you; you know our strength isn’t as weak as you might think."
Next to him, Fire Qilin nodded, a faint smile playing at his lips.
Hexagonal Golden Snake hesitated but finally nodded, leading Wang Zhan and Fire Qilin into the Sword Tomb.
The protectors quickly followed, staying close to Wang Zhan for a sense of unprecedented safety.
Upon entering the Sword Tomb, both Wang Zhan and Fire Qilin felt intense intimidation. Clearly, the Hexagonal Golden Snake’s senses were correct; energy fluctuations indeed existed here, and Wang Zhan could sense the formidable power of their adversary.
Despite the tomb’s small size, allowing them to view its entirety, they found no trace of anyone. Yet the energy’s presence raised concerns.
After exchanging glances, the group saw the Hexagonal Golden Snake focusing on the magma, his expression shifting as he clenched his fists and said through gritted teeth, "That guy is probably practicing some evil ritual under the magma, and I sense a strong scent of blood. I believe the city’s people have been thrown into the magma—I’ll force him out, but be very careful; he’s terrifyingly strong."
Even Hexagonal Golden Snake dared not enter the magma, proving their adversary’s prowess.
Agreeing, Wang Zhan and Fire Qilin nodded. As Hexagonal Golden Snake readied himself, Fire Qilin stepped forward, suggesting, "Let me force him out instead. Being a Water Family practitioner, you’re at a disadvantage here, whereas I’m skilled in Fire Family techniques. The magma won’t threaten me; I plan to lure him outside the tomb, where we’ll join forces to confront him."
Wang Zhan glanced at Hexagonal Golden Snake and Fire Qilin, dear friends both; should either be at risk, he’d feel deeply troubled. Responsible for bringing them here, he was firmly resolved they must return together—tragedy wasn’t an option.
Yet, he couldn’t decide since Fire Qilin’s reasoning seemed sound. The environment suppressed Hexagonal Golden Snake’s strength, rendering him potentially less potent than Fire Qilin in this battle. With his powers compromised, Wang Zhan worried about the impact on their impending confrontation.
He needed to swiftly resolve matters ahead.
The Hexagonal Golden Snake hesitated briefly but nodded, patting Fire Qilin’s shoulder before saying, "Be careful, and avoid engaging him alone. I sense his power matches mine; should he hold any trump card, we face serious threat."
Fire Qilin wasn’t impulsive, despite his rebellious nature, avoiding foolish risks.
Given this scenario, he’d strive for prudence!
His course was steady!
