Girl Hero: Revenge on Goblins!
Chapter 1191 - 1191: D500. Because He Is Good
The expensive sedan glided steadily along the road.
Just as the Shield Woman had said earlier, the traffic near the hospital was far from smooth; cars moved in fits and starts, horns blaring one after another.
Yet whenever this car approached, the road ahead would inexplicably become spacious.
Whether two-wheeled or four-wheeled, as long as they caught a glimpse of that smooth silhouette in the rearview mirror, they would all instinctively edge to the side by a fraction; cutting in, blocking, fighting for the lane—those everyday scenes never once occurred.
Once they left the hospital area, the traffic became somewhat more fluid as well.
Towering glass curtain walls reflected the afternoon sunlight, the streets were packed with people, and in the distance she could see a giant screen—probably on a department store—playing all kinds of advertisements.
The Mute Girl leaned against the car window, taking in this unfamiliar Otherworld city outside, her eyes busy, yet she still reminded the Shield Woman to keep explaining without even turning her head.
"You said that's our underground garage. So aside from that, what other intel do we have? Like, has anyone ever died there, or were there any accidents or something?"
At this, the Shield Woman's face showed a bitter look. Her gaze never left the road ahead; she just gave a slight shake of her head.
"I haven't heard of anything like that. And…" She paused, a little hesitant, but still went on, "you only moved in there when you started middle school First Turn. I'm not too clear on what happened before."
"Useless." The Mute Girl clicked her tongue without the slightest courtesy, then asked, "Just the two of us living there?"
The Shield Woman pressed her lips together, her hands tightening slightly on the steering wheel.
"…You really don't remember anything at all, huh."
Her voice was very soft; rather than answering, it sounded more like she was talking to herself.
Then she drew a deep breath and spoke in as calm a tone as she could:
"Yes. Just the two of us live there."
"What about our dad and mom?"
As if expecting this question, the Shield Woman didn't hesitate much, answering evenly, "Father and Mother are both doing business overseas. They haven't come back for years."
Hearing this, the Mute Girl's eyes rolled, and even without a long explanation, she roughly got the picture.
After all, the two kids had been in such a serious accident, and the parents hadn't come to visit at all. Unless they were both dead, this was far too unreasonable.
And since they were still alive, the guess wasn't hard to make.
—A family with material abundance but no love. That's probably all there was to it.
Though this was an Illusion Realm and she couldn't be sure these parents were really that cold, it was precisely because it was an Illusion Realm that it said even more about how the Shield Woman saw them.
But such things were not rare in the Kingdom; even Lady Saintess was no exception.
The world only knew that she got along well with her elder brother, yet no one had ever seen the Saintess's parents appear. She hadn't even invited them to her centennial performance; only the Saintess's grandfather attended.
Though no newspaper dared to print the Saintess's family gossip as tabloid news, inside the Church, similar rumors had long ceased to be any kind of secret.
Everyone more or less knew that although Lady Saintess was born a Noble, she was neglected in childhood because of her Talent, yet still grew into such an outstanding figure…
But in the Illusion Realm, the "little sister" she was playing seemed not to have Lady Saintess's good temper.
Whether it was those chat logs on messaging apps that practically reeked of gunpowder, or the little accessories she wore on her body, all of them proclaimed one fact: she was in the thick of a fierce rebellious phase.
Although the only reference material was those chat logs and a few brief days together, the Mute Girl had already seen through it—inside this family, the Shield Woman was probably playing both the elder sister and the mother at the same time.
"Do we really have to go back there? Will it be dangerous?" The Shield Woman's voice carried a worry she couldn't quite suppress. "Why don't we move somewhere else instead? There's another villa in the suburbs. It's just that it's too far, so we haven't been there in ages…"
"Being rich must be nice." The Mute Girl remarked, though her tone wasn't particularly envious, then shifted the topic. "But haven't I already told you? If we want to get the memories back, we have to go to these special places."
Even though I didn't tell you that what we're retrieving isn't my memories, but your own.
Yet when she heard this, instead of showing agreement, the Shield Woman slowly drew the car over to the side of the road.
The engine quieted, and then she turned her head to look into the Mute Girl's eyes, speaking with a serious expression:
"More than getting your memories back, I don't want you to run into danger.
"Superpowers are indeed impressive, but in everyday life there aren't many situations where you'd need to use them, right? It's true our class only survived thanks to you, but accidents like that are something most people might never encounter once in their entire lives.
"Even if Spiritual Energy really has revived, it's impossible that you'd be the only one Awakening. Whatever monsters appear, there will be others to deal with them. So with that being the case, there's no need to go out of your way to approach danger, is there?
"If we can't get your memories back, it's fine. Feelings can be slowly built up again later. It's fine for me as your sister."
Her words were filled with sincerity; ever since finding out her little sister had gained superpowers and lost her memory, she had probably been thinking about all this.
Unlike the Fearless Shield Knight who would take the initiative to stand on the very front line in the Dungeon, the teacher before her was only thinking about how to keep her own family far away from danger.
