Chapter 97: Broken teeth part 1

The elite unit of Hobgoblins did not charge forward as the whole army, but only a detachment of 100 Hobgoblins from the very front where the ones that had fully detached. With that, they started marching towards Magenta and the other two girls who were outside on the open field were most of the frenzied goblins were attacking, and they didn’t charge directly; instead, they moved in a fast, systematic formation while maintaining their shape.

?As they moved, they exuded an aura showing they were in no hurry to enter the battlefield, yet they moved at a fast enough pace to reach the front line in time. With every single systematic march, they exuded the pressure of an elite unit that had already decided the outcome before even arriving on the battlefield.

?Magenta and the others were still in the fighting area, standing on a platform made of goblin bodies that was nearly half a meter tall. Although they still maintained their wall of steel so the goblins could not bypass them at the moment, seeing the elite hobgoblins coming in their direction caused psychological pressure to increase, knowing they had to deal with that group of hobgoblins while still dealing with this frenzied group of goblins.

?Even Astra on top of the wall had several times tried to disrupt the advancing group of Hobgoblins, but due to the density and frenzied nature of the Red Goblins, she couldn’t divert even a single arrow to assist Magenta. If she tried to assist them, she knew vesper would be overwhelmed in an instant, so she had no power to assist in any way. Velvet and the other girls were inside the settlement, making it impossible for them to help as well.

?It seemed that this guy was a commander with a lot of experience because he had directed a plan that tied down the rest of the girls while he assaulted only one group that was already overwhelmed. Even Magenta herself had to applaud inwardly at the tactical brain of the robe-wearing goblin who was the mastermind. But they didn’t panic and only continued to swing their weapons while waiting for the moves of the other party.

?As time went on, the tension kept building up. After a few minutes, the elite goblins were only 10 meters away, and Magenta and the others observed that those crazy, frenzied Red Goblins did not attack the elite goblins, as if they still had some rationality to distinguish between friends and foes. The frenzied goblins even parted ways for the elite hobgoblins to pass through towards them.

?Then, at that same moment, the one who seemed to be in immediate command of that detachment suddenly shouted an order, and the advancing elite hobgoblins shifted their formation. Earlier on the march they were in a wide formation, but because they had already detached and were close to their targets, they shifted from a wide formation into a tight square. However, they still left enough room for maneuver between them.

?They closed in, and then with an another shout from the commander, the elite hobgoblins made another move: the very front ranks of hobgoblins suddenly crouched down into an almost squatting position. The second rank of goblins also crouched down, but not as low, almost bending their knees, while the third rank remained standing. Then the goblins leveled their spears, creating three levels of spears that formed a physical wall like a fortified hedgehog.

?That was not all, because with every step they took, they thrusted with their right step and withdrew with their left step, creating a physical, moving wall of spears that was very terrifying. Magenta and the other two girls who saw this knew that things were starting to get very bad, but they could only brace themselves.

?In a few moments, the moving phalanx of elite hobgoblins was moments away fron direct contact. The Red Goblins had immediately parted ways, leaving them flanking on the other side. At that brief moment, the entire formation of hobgoblins activated physical enhancements, increasing their aura points, and issued a short burst charge towards Magenta and the other girls. This was like a wall of spears directly charging at them, and that physical impact will be really terrifying if it really made contact, but the girls did not panic.

?Seeing that a path had parted, Magenta called out, "Fiona, we need to disrupt that formation before it even hits us! My plan is to directly disarm that physical wall of spears in front of us."

?Then Magenta said, "I will go first to directly deprive them of weapons, while you, Fiona, prepare yourself for the second stage. Remember, we are using the same tactic as back home on that day when we were surrounded. We must act quickly."

?After that, even before hearing what Fiona would say, Magenta directly stepped and charged forward. Because they were on a platform of literal corpses, her plan could not succeed in this environment, so she had to find a suitable place. She directly came down from the platform of corpses and performed a 360-degree swing with her large battle axe, cleaving a large section of red goblins at the very front and creating a temporary vacuum.

?She charged forward into that vacuum, landing on solid ground. Just as she landed, the wall of spears was right in front of her, where she could even see the glistening spear tips a few inches away. She didn’t waste any time and activated her first skill, Heavy Stomp, gathering strength in her left leg and slamming it heavily onto the ground. This was the plan from the very beginning, as she couldn’t unleash this skill on those corpses since they were not directly in contact with the ground, and although the skill would activate, the effect wouldn’t be what she wanted.

?Now, that heavy stomp sent a shockwave into the ground directly in front of the formation, causing the unstoppable wall of spears a few inches away to become unstable. The goblins in the very front rank suddenly lost their footing due to the momentum of the initial charge and their squatting position, making it hard to balance themselves were by causing the charging wall of spears to briefly collapse.

?Although the hobgoblins were all extraordinary beings and elite units, they were momentarily stunned by the sudden shockwave but they quickly resumed their footing, but that second of disruption was all Magenta needed. She directly crouched into an almost squatting position—though because of her large frame she couldn’t squat lower—and swung her battle axe in a wide arc.

?This time she did not swing to cleave, but used the flat side of the blade against the incoming spears. Due to the earlier instability and the immense power behind the swing, she struck the shafts directly, knocking aside their spears and causing some to fly out of their grips. Others tried to maintain hold, but it was too late; the entire wall of spears was disrupted. The front ranks were thrown into disarray by the force of the deflected spears.

? Magenta did not continue her assault from the squatting position, she still had the ability to stand up and keep attacking, but she had already done her part and so she waited. At that exact moment, just as Magenta had created that vacuum, Fiona followed right behind her when Magenta had knocked the spears aside and created a vulnerable gap in the wall of spears, Fiona knew it was her chance.

?She crouched down like a runner starting a sprint, holding her shield at the front with her left hand while pulling her right hand backward creating an aerodynamic structure. Having gathered a large reserve of absorbed kinetic force from the battle, she funneled that energy into her legs and busted forward with terrifying force.

?While the goblins were still destabilized and in disarray, they saw the humanoid meat grinder squatting down and thought she had exhausted her strength. But just as that thought crossed their minds, they saw a figure charging toward them. This figure held a large shield on the front, moving at a frightening speed like an iron bull charging forward. It was so sudden that they couldn’t prepare, only watching the impact arrive.

?Fiona slammed her shield directly into the front ranks of the hobgoblins. When her shield met the first crouching hobgoblin in the front rank, it was as if they didn’t even exist; the sound of snapping bones and agony rang out. She immediately knocked back three hobgoblins behind them, killing the first one on impact, its head completely crushed.

?She didn’t stop there. Holding her mace in her right hand, she accumulated energy into her arm and swung it in a powerful horizontal arc, smashing more than half a dozen goblins in her immediate path and creating a massive gap. Seeing this, Magenta, who was squatting to the side, gathered her energy and charged forward. Though not as terrifying as Fiona, she didn’t need to be.

?Reaching the gap, she began to swing her axe. Because the enemy was in a tight formation holding long spears, they couldn’t execute an effective counterattack and could only fall backward while the two of them slaughtered them inside the middle of the formation without resistance.

?However, the commander responsible for this small detachment did not want to give up that easily; he still wanted to fight and started issuing orders.
