Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 271 - 270
Rea stood quietly on his left, her high-slashed silk tunic smoothed down, though her cheeks still held the deep, flushed color of the recent storm. Her gold-and-blue eyes watched the flickering embers of the drone wreckage across the beach. "She’s right. The registry is gone. Every mandate, every tier, every restriction—it’s all blank paper."
Jun-ho did not speak right away. His left hand remained securely cupped around Vespera’s waist, holding her close with an effortless, crushing certainty, while his dark eyes scanned the dark, winding gravel path that led back up the cliff toward the silent spires of Sector One.
The 11,500x strike multiplier hummed quietly beneath his skin, a steady, dormant thunder waiting for the next barrier to appear. But for now, the horizon was completely clear.
Jun-ho shifted his stance in the loose pebbles, his massive frame rising out of the alcove with unhurried authority.
"The spires are empty," Jun-ho said, his voice deep, dry, and absolute. He adjusted the heavy canvas duffel bag over his shoulder, his dark gaze resting on the women who flanked him. "We have a continent to claim."
Lilith grinned, her teeth flashing white in the amber firelight as she reached out to hook her fingers through the loop of his belt. "Well, what are we waiting for, big guy? Lead the way."
The gravel path wound steeply up the side of the limestone cliff, cutting a sharp, sheer line directly into the heart of Sector One. There were no lights guiding the way, no automated perimeter sensors humming in the dark, and no surveillance eyes tracking their ascent. The only illumination came from the pale, scattered starlight piercing through the high atmospheric clouds and the faint, residual glow of the 11,500x strike weight humming softly beneath Jun-ho’s skin.
Jun-ho took the lead, his heavy rubber boots crunching steadily against the loose shale. His plain gray cotton shirt, torn and damp from the surf, clung tightly to the broad, iron-hard lines of his chest and shoulders. The matte metal of The Ash Remnant hung dead and balanced at his thigh, its hemp-wrapped handle secure in his left hand.
Vespera walked close behind him, her slender heels adapting effortlessly to the uneven incline. The obsidian bodysuit wrapped like a second skin around her tall, breathtakingly voluptuous frame, accentuating every dramatic curve of her narrow waist and wide, aristocratic hips. Without her ceremonial enforcer cape, the full impact of her statuesque figure was entirely unmasked to the cool night air.
As Jun-ho paused briefly on a wide limestone landing to check the vertical gradient, Vespera caught up instantly, her body brushing flush against his back.
"You’re moving too fast, Jun-ho," Vespera murmured, her melodic voice dropping into a low, husky register that carried a breathless, teasing edge. She slid her hands up his broad shoulders, her fingers tracing the jagged lines of old scars before resting lightly against the back of his neck. Her glowing violet eyes dilated in the dark as she tilted her head upward, her lips hovering just inches from his ear. "Or are you simply in a hurry to see if there are any locked doors left for you to break down?"
Jun-ho didn’t turn around immediately, but his right hand shot out with effortless speed, his large, calloused palm wrapping firmly around her narrow waist. With a single, smooth motion, he hauled her hard against his side, pinning her flush against his dense, muscular frame.
"There aren’t any doors left," Jun-ho said, his voice a deep, gravelly rumble. "Only paths."
Lilith let out a low, sultry laugh from a few paces back, leaning her hip against the cold stone wall of the cliff. Her crimson leather suit creaked softly in the quiet night. Her wide crimson eyes sparkled with a wicked, playful heat as she watched the high-council commander melt effortlessly into the protagonist’s grip.
"Oh, look at her," Lilith teased, her voice dripping with delicious mockery. She stepped closer, sliding her hand down Jun-ho’s arm until her fingers interlaced with his, pulling his attention toward her. "The great and untouchable enforcer commander, reduced to begging for a pause on a dark mountain path. If the old council could see you now, ice queen, they’d die of sheer shock before you even reached the courtyard."
Vespera didn’t look away from Jun-ho’s dark, unblinking eyes, though a hot, bright flush stained her pale cheeks. She didn’t defend her rank or invoke a single statute. Instead, she arched her spine slightly against his hand, her hips pressing with deliberate, provocative friction right against his thigh.
"Let them die of shock," Vespera whispered fiercely, her voice thick with a heady mix of pride and total surrender. "The old council only knew how to build cages. He knows how to tear them down."
Rea stepped out from the shadows of the upper switchback, her high-slashed silk tunic fluttering in the cold night breeze to reveal the smooth line of her leg. Her gold-and-blue eyes spun in a calm, steady circle as she leaned against Jun-ho’s left shoulder, her bare skin radiating a dry, inviting heat that cut straight through the mountain chill.
"If we keep standing here trading compliments in the dark, the only thing we’ll conquer is a cold," Rea noted dryly, though a soft, seductive smile touched the corners of her lips. She slid her palm flat across Jun-ho’s chest, her fingertips tracing the heavy, rapid thud of his heart. "Besides, the main administrative tower is just past the upper gate. I hear the master suite has a rather large, unobstructed view of the entire continent."
Jun-ho looked between the three of them—their flushed faces, their teasing smiles, and the raw, uninhibited desire burning in their eyes. The massive weight of his strength wrapped around them like an iron shield.
Without another word, Jun-ho tightened his grip around Vespera’s waist, lifting her effortlessly over a sharp outcrop of rock before setting her down on the upper path, his hand lingering deliberately over the heavy curve of her hip before he turned back toward the silent spires.
"Move," Jun-ho said, his voice absolute.
