Chapter 1027 - 316: Demon Flesh
Su Changxing looked at Yeluo and demanded, "Why did Count Mei’Er have you do this?"
Luring Mages here to feed a monster was unquestionably vile; done wrong, the entire city could be destroyed because of it.
Yeluo’s expression was utterly panicked. He only shook his head and said, "I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t remember anything!"
Su Changxing turned and walked inward, saying to Jin, "Ignore him for now, let’s go in and take a look. This thing is far from simple, it’s very likely related to a Divine Spirit."
He strongly suspected that part of the Faith in the church had been stolen by this thing. For Demons and other non-Order lifeforms, Faith was a catalyst that could make their life force expand at a wild pace.
But even Demons at World-Ending Level had no method to gather Faith.
Only Divine Spirits could gather Faith; that was the essential difference between Divine Spirits and other beings. It was said some Divine Spirits themselves were Demons.
But just like humans, once they stepped into that Domain, Demons shed the essence of being Demons and were only called Divine Spirits.
Chains appeared on Jin’s left hand, binding Yeluo’s hands and feet. She tossed him to the ground to keep him from running.
Su Changxing led Jin deeper into the factory, wanting to find the source of the phantom. The sound of the engine turning grew louder, and the light and shadow around them shifted. Orange-yellow lamp light seeped through the space, shining on the blood-stained floor, yet no one could find where the light itself was coming from.
The engine’s sound matched the rhythm of a heartbeat, thumping one beat after another.
Su Changxing felt that thing’s presence; his gaze landed on the massive core steam engine in the center of the factory.
The engine was in a shut-down Status, with no steam at all, yet it was running at high Speed on some Illusory Surface.
"How long are you planning to hide? You really think I can’t see you?" Su Changxing looked at the engine and chuckled.
In his eyes, the other side was no different from an ostrich burying its head in the sand, pretending to be fully concealed while its huge body remained completely exposed.
"Those idiots are really brainless. How could they lure a Half god like you over here!" A hoarse voice roared in fury, and the light and shadow around them shifted again.
Su Changxing picked up on the implication and said coldly, "Half god? You’re Stealing the Faith of a Half god, so what the hell are you?"
The light and shadow in the space shifted again, and the engine’s sound quickly died down. That thing was trying to run!
Su Changxing swung his hand and unfolded his Domain. Chains and Dusk spread to cover the entire factory; everything entered an ultra-slow Status, not much different from being frozen.
In this world he could exert strength far beyond what he’d imagined, channeling vast Faith to suppress the whole factory.
Su Changxing dragged that thing out from the Illusory Surface, revealing its true form—a heart attached to the engine, pulsing continuously, brimming with vigorous vitality.
"How are you this strong! You Half god!" The heart let out a voice of disbelief, astonished by Su Changxing’s power, as if certain a Half god shouldn’t possibly be this strong.
Su Changxing stared at it and asked calmly, "Why do you know about me?"
He suspected there was some kind of information link between these Divine Spirits; otherwise, how would this thing know him, and even know he wasn’t a true God, only a Half god.
The heart gave a mocking laugh. "Your Faith has spread across the entire Wodan Empire. How could I not know you."
Su Changxing split the heart in half from the middle. No blood spilled out, nor anything else—only black light and mist flowing within.
"Hey, hey, what are you doing!" The heart grew anxious at once, shouting loudly over and over.
Su Changxing smiled faintly. "You sounded so tough, I thought you weren’t afraid of dying."
The thing before him was different from what he’d imagined. It wasn’t a limb of some Divine Spirit, and definitely couldn’t be counted as a Divine Spirit. It only had a relatively independent consciousness and could Steal Faith through some method.
"There isn’t much Faith in that shabby church anyway. I’ll return it all to you, alright? We’ve got no grudges between us, no need to fight." The heart said cheerfully.
"I never expected you’d dare show up here. Don’t you know several True Gods have their eyes on you now? They all call you the Godstealer!"
Su Changxing’s face remained calm, but he took what it said seriously. "And then? If they’re really watching, they must know I’ve already come here."
The heart let out another mocking laugh. "A Half god is a Half god; you’ll never imagine how powerful a Divine Spirit truly is. A Divine Country has already descended on Sindaga—do you really think they can’t do anything to a little Half god like you?"
Su Changxing still looked unconcerned. "The Faith of my All Beings Sect has spread almost across all of Wodan, and I haven’t seen any Divine Spirit do a damn thing."
This world was different; Demons couldn’t survive here, and Divine Spirits couldn’t directly intervene in it either. Otherwise the All Beings Sect would have been wiped out long ago.
Su Changxing looked at the heart now split in two and said with a smile, "Anything else you want to say?"
His words sounded like a death sentence to the heart; it panicked at once. "You don’t have to kill me. We have no conflict at all, and we can cooperate—we can cooperate."
Su Changxing examined the heart’s form carefully and asked, "Tell me what you are. You’re definitely not a Divine Spirit; there probably aren’t Divine Spirits as weak as you."
The heart squirmed nonstop, giving off the sound of blood flowing. A pair of cat-like eyes condensed on its surface, looking at Su Changxing. "Isn’t it obvious?"
Su Changxing truly couldn’t tell what this heart was, though he had guesses—it was probably related to Divine Spirits, to be able to block the Eye of Data’s probing.
The chains in the space twisted again, forcibly tearing the heart into four pieces. More black mist overflowed from within, carrying the taste of Faith and triggering all sorts of illusions to erupt in the surroundings.
"If you want to talk, then talk. Don’t keep grabbing and tearing at me." The heart said repeatedly, but there was no hint of tension or pain in its voice. It seemed to know Su Changxing wouldn’t actually kill it, more like he was just messing around.
This kind of thing is nothing like humans. It doesn’t know pain, and it doesn’t know fear.
"Haha, I may be weak, but I’m nothing like you. I myself am a lump of the God’s flesh and blood, so I count as a Divine Spirit too." The heart said proudly.
Su Changxing instantly understood what this thing actually was: "So your main body has already fallen, and that’s why you gave birth to consciousness. You’re not a Divine Spirit, you’re just a chunk of Demon Flesh, the heart’s blood of a Divine Spirit, that’s why you have such power and intelligence."
This heart seemed to have, to a certain extent, bypassed the restrictions of the world’s rules. Because the original Divine Spirit was already dead, it no longer had any ties to that god, and could instead move freely in this world.
But is that really the truth?
The heart seemed amazed at Su Changxing’s insight: "Not bad, very clever, you guessed my true identity in one go."
Su Changxing sighed, shook his head, and said, "I’ve never believed in coincidences, and I believe even less that you’re the only one of your kind, just happening to run into me."
"You haven’t said a single true word since just now, have you."
"I can smell the stench of deception!"
His right eye flashed with blazing white light. He reached out toward the heart, suddenly launched an attack, and a massive weight of Faith pressed down on the factory’s space like a mountain.
The heart, which had been fairly intact in shape, broke apart like grains of sand. He was going to wipe this thing completely out of existence, and had no desire to keep talking with it.
He suspected this thing was probably a piece of flesh some Divine Spirit had dug out from its own body and tossed into this world. The more he interacted with it, the tighter the link to that god might become. If he didn’t cut that connection quickly, he might get erased by some unknown method without even realizing it.
"Hahaha!!!"
A laugh that made one’s whole body uncomfortable came out of the heart that had already turned into a pile of fragments. The voice couldn’t be placed as male or female, old or young, and carried obvious mockery.
In a flash, he seemed to arrive somewhere else—a space made of flesh. The ground, the walls, and all the surrounding objects were bright red meat, densely covered in Dark veins that pulsed without end.
Jin looked around in surprise. "Hm? Is this inside a belly?"
Bang bang bang~
"Haha!"
Then she burst out laughing, raised a pink mini Gatling, and raked the surrounding flesh with continuous fire. Bullets slammed into it, exploding into sprays of bright red blood.
Under her attack, the entire space trembled nonstop, constantly shifting between illusion and reality—one moment the scene of the factory, the next the flesh-space.
"What are you?"
A voice full of puzzlement echoed through the space.
More bullets blew holes of all sizes in the fleshy walls. At the same time, dense clusters of meat-worms appeared, trying to patch up the blasted pits, but the rate of repair lagged far behind the rate of destruction.
Su Changxing was also surprised. He could see this was a partial Godrealm projection of some Divine Country, hanging between real and unreal, anchored on an Illusory Surface that ordinary means couldn’t budge. Even a Tier Four Extraordinary would likely only be able to flee in a hurry.
But Jin was using pure physical firepower to damage this space, constantly destabilizing it.
It was frankly absurd, like an ant biting off a huge chunk of flesh from an elephant—completely against common sense.
Su Changxing also seized the moment as the space exposed a weakness, using his Domain to thoroughly shred that lump of Demon Flesh.
With the Demon Flesh erased from this world, the Divine Country’s projection lost its anchor, rapidly dispersing and revealing the factory’s original appearance. It was still the same as before, and the engine noise had vanished.
Only the Gatling hadn’t stopped yet. Bullets smashed into the surrounding walls, blasting out chunks of concrete. An entire wall of the factory collapsed under Jin’s attack.
Su Changxing had no choice but to step in: "That’s enough."
Jin ceased fire and straightened up. The Gatling’s barrel was glowing red and smoking white. She let out a breath. "That hit the spot~"
"We probably don’t have to pay for this, right?" Su Changxing said, looking at the wall, then bent down and picked up a piece of black flesh from the ground, like smoked pork.
[Demon Flesh: Contains the essence of a Divine Spirit’s flesh and blood. Theoretically can elevate the level of life, but the greater likelihood is that you become part of the Demon Flesh.]
"The flesh of a Divine Spirit..."
For the moment, Su Changxing had no idea how to handle this thing. Anything related to gods was extremely dangerous—let alone a piece of flesh from their bodies.
Jin stared at the "smoked pork" in his hand, marveling, "It looks exactly like smoked meat!"
"This is really flesh from a Divine Spirit’s body?"
"Of course," Su Changxing confirmed. "These so-called gods seem desperate for Faith. Even if they have to carve flesh off themselves and throw it into this world, they’ll still try Stealing Faith from me."
Jin linked gods with petty thieves and sighed. "That really is unethical behavior."
Su Changxing chuckled and agreed. "Utterly unethical. None of these gods have any decent intentions."
"Let’s go out and take a look. I suspect a lot of people in the city have already been twisted."
