Chapter 915 - 264: Chaos Eternal, Demon Immortal (Part 4)
"Is there anything else wrong?"
"..."
Su Changxing twitched his eyelids and casually said, "It’s good enough."
Sean adjusted his black eye sockets with his left hand and spoke seriously, "You should always maintain a perfect appearance."
Clearly, he hasn’t realized how strange it looks to wear a suit with a broken climbing rope tied around the waist.
Shen Jinxuan curled her lips into a smile, affirming, "It is indeed perfect."
This probably relates to Sean’s position; as a gentleman in a suit, he must maintain a perfect appearance at all times, at least in his own eyes. In a perfect appearance state, he is difficult to kill.
That’s also why he just managed to survive the attack from the Yaqi Demon.
The Extraordinary individuals growing in the Death Rift are all quite exceptional in combat strength, top-notch in terms of survival skills.
The further they advanced towards the third layer’s depths, the smaller their visible range became, as if a layer of pitch-black thin gauze was draped over the space, veiled before their eyes.
After crossing a long bridge, they were greeted by a different scene, replacing the uniform stone brick flooring was a zone of building ruins.
These ruins seemed to form a sculpture as an entirety, even the gravel on the ground couldn’t be moved at all. Among the ruins were some solidified human bodies, appearing to have died recently and yet similarly immovable.
"What are these things?" Shen Jinxuan asked Sean.
Sean shook his head, eyes wide in observation of the ruins, then said, "I haven’t been here before; probably no one has been to the third layer. You can only get here through the previous area."
"It appears an intelligent species once lived here; I see these bodies are human, perhaps these ruins were built by ancient humans."
"So the Death Rift was built by humans?"
He analyzed blindly without more information about the Death Rift to make accurate judgments, only able to let his mind wander and fill in the gaps.
Su Changxing abruptly said, "This is a sentinel station."
"Huh?"
Shen Jinxuan and Sean both cast doubtful looks.
[Sentinel Station Ruins: A sentinel station from ancient times, to monitor the Death Rift... Destroyed for some reason and remains reserved.]
"This is indeed a prison, a prison for demons. But why imprison demons here?"
Su Changxing sighed and said, "It seems the fourth layer should be the exit to this world."
Sean glanced at Su Changxing, didn’t ask why he had gotten this information but instead asked back, "Since this is a prison for demons, why are we here? To eradicate these demons?"
Su Changxing paused, then spoke word by word, "Naturally, it’s to rapidly cultivate the Extraordinary. Perhaps you haven’t realized how quickly you’re growing."
Sean’s eye twitched slightly, still somewhat puzzled as he spoke in a low tone, "But so many people have died; almost everyone who came here with me is dead!"
Su Changxing chuckled lightly, "It can indeed cultivate powerful Extraordinary individuals, and someone has defeated the Celestial Calamity Demon and walked out from here. I’ve seen it, quite incredible."
Sean plopped down on the ruins, completely disregarding his image, fell into brief silence, then spoke to himself, "It’s simply not worth it!"
He probably understood more about this place’s nature; it likely was built by ancient humans, imprisoning demons within, before selecting humans from other worlds to come here, tempering them to cultivate powerful Extraordinary individuals.
And they within have no choice but to face death.
Either strive to live or face death calmly.
This is the lament of the weak.
Su Changxing interrupted, saying, "As to whether it’s worth it, that’s subject to discussion."
Now, he seemed able to grasp what’s before them; it’s the omnipresent doomsday that brings despair, horrific terror rolling in steadily into the darkness of Chaos.
"What do you mean?" Sean looked up sharply at him, eyes turning sharp.
Su Changxing ignored him, continued walking, speaking in a deep voice: "Like in war, someone always has to push forward. It’s indeed unfortunate for you to be here; what if you’re soldiers?"
"Since this place exists for so long, it must have its significance."
The Doomsday Game and the Death Rift operate on the same principle; he suspects they were made by the same person or group.
When Titan Humans existed, the Doomsday Game was already there, with the Titan King as the first player of it.
Also, there’s another point worthy of attention, the Extraordinary System within the Death Rift and the Doomsday Game’s have differences.
They are like different versions of the same thing, with the Doomsday Game being the newest, whereas the Death Rift seems stuck at a certain version.
Could this indicate they originally were connected, but now are separate.
The Death Rift resembles a plugin for the Doomsday Game, now breaking off independently.
Sean stood up, tidied his attire, then followed, bowing:
"Mr. Su, I was rude earlier. If according to your words, this place is a military camp, then what enemy do we fight, these demons?"
Su Changxing glanced back at him, shaking his head, saying, "Not just demons, likely the things that birthed these demons."
...
The ruins were vast, so vast they’d wandered inside for long without finding an end; it’s imaginable how many people were stationed at the sentinel station then.
Crack crack crack~
Sounds emerged from the ruins, clear gear turning and colliding sounds.
Su Changxing was startled; he hadn’t detected anything unusual before, then saw a broken wooden puppet crawl out from the ruins.
The puppet looked crude, seemingly cobbled from pieces of wood, similar in size to a human, draped in chain armor, holding a wooden spear — peculiarly comical.
Su Changxing counted; there were eighteen such puppets, positioned around them.
Whether coincidence or not, they happened to walk right into the center of these puppets, which then activated.
Eighteen wooden puppets charged from various angles. Speed varied, rushing towards them with gear-clicking sounds.
He was certain the gears inside them malfunctioned, hence the sounds.
[Puppet Flying Star Array: An ancient deadly array reflecting stars, can suppress Tier Five Demons.
One of Kan Water is enlightenment; Three of Xun Wind White Tiger; Six of Li Fire Heavenly Queen; Two of Qian Sky Black Tortoise; Nine of Kun Earth Heaven Strike...
A deadly array with a high ceiling capable of suppressing Celestial Demons, yet very apparent flaws...]
Phantom candle lights rose in the air, while talisman water scattered greenly; those initially broken, dull puppets suddenly seemed agile.
Bullets fired by Su Changxing were deflected effortlessly by these seemingly fragile puppets, invisibly gripped tightly by a huge hand.
Each puppet is independent, yet part of a whole, forming a wholeness with this world, driving this world to turn in a profound manner.
Su Changxing vaguely sensed the presence of Divine Text within the Puppet Flying Star Array, similar mysteries able to invoke world rules fundamentally, unleashing unimaginable power.
"Die, stop struggling."
A voice called out from the void, puppet movements accelerated, quickening beyond visibility, leaving only shadows.
