Global Game: I Have Portable Store
Chapter 922 - 269: Keep Eating
Su Changxing didn’t know if those people had noticed him, but he quickened his pace and ran forward. The streets were filled with zombies, and once humans got close, the zombies would swarm them. Even if the others saw him, they certainly wouldn’t be able to catch up.
This was an advantage of being a zombie.
...
"The backpack is on that person!" A pretty woman with short burgundy hair immediately spotted Su Changxing, mainly because the silver machete on his back was too conspicuous.
"That’s not a human, it’s a zombie!"
Then she realized that it was a zombie, a zombie dressed like a human. After all, she had never seen a zombie carrying a machete on its back like that—it was too odd.
"Where?"
The middle-aged man next to her looked towards the dense area of zombies.
"The zombie holding its head with both hands!" The woman with burgundy hair pointed in Su Changxing’s direction and repeated, but when they looked again, Su Changxing’s figure had already disappeared on the street.
The middle-aged man wielded a long steel rod and smashed the head of an approaching zombie, frowning. "A zombie holding its head?"
The woman with burgundy hair nodded and confirmed, "Yes, it’s holding its head with both hands, it looks like the neck is almost broken."
"And it seems this time the zombie possessed extraordinary intelligence. It was carrying the Blade of Paleness on its back, which we exchanged from the Mysterious Shop yesterday."
"That item’s a rare find, directly strengthening Power, and it has a fifteen-point sharpness effect."
It’s the kind of great item you could struggle to find even after many attempts, but they happened to get lucky—while at the same time unlucky—running into an Extraordinary Zombie of immense strength last night.
A zombie with intelligence?
This left the middle-aged man baffled. They’d been here for so long and had never seen a truly intelligent zombie. Even Extraordinary Zombies were at best like beasts, not really intelligent.
"Are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?" the middle-aged man confirmed again, his tone full of doubt, as the whole thing sounded a bit implausible.
The woman with burgundy hair sighed, pouting, "Captain, I’ve never lied to you. Doubting me like this breaks my heart."
She emphasized her large chest as she spoke.
Seeing the woman’s display, the middle-aged man’s parched face involuntarily twitched, and he explained:
"I’m not doubting you; it’s just that the zombie didn’t seem like an Extraordinary Zombie. Otherwise, I’d have spotted it right away."
"I suspect it might be a human disguised as a zombie, though they haven’t become an Extraordinary, they possess similar abilities."
Soon after.
They discovered the door of a clothing store had been destroyed, and upon entering they found the corpse of an Extraordinary Zombie in the fitting room, its head smashed into a pulp.
Another short-haired young man with glasses, who looked scholarly, examined the corpse of the Extraordinary Zombie and said, "The wounds from a blade, the cuts on both the left and right hands are similar, caused by the same weapon."
"That zombie... killed this zombie with the Blade of Paleness."
"..."
The woman with burgundy hair blinked and asked, "So it was a zombie?"
The young man with glasses nodded and said confidently, "It should be. There are traces of blood from two different zombies at the scene, caused by fighting."
"So, it seems you’re right. It indeed was a zombie with intelligence."
The atmosphere at the scene unknowingly became a bit heavier.
Their advantage as humans was their intelligence, wasn’t it? If zombies also had the same intelligence as them, what’s left for them but to die directly?
The middle-aged man chuckled coldly and said dismissively, "It’s just an exception. It seems that this zombie isn’t very strong, as it still needed a weapon to defeat an Extraordinary Zombie."
"As long as zombies aren’t undergoing this change on a large scale, they aren’t worth worrying about."
During this conversation, the body of the Extraordinary Zombie had already been dismembered and put into a burlap bag; it was a fine piece of extraordinary material.
Extraordinary Zombies hunted humans, and they hunted Extraordinary Zombies, too.
...
Su Changxing returned to the vicinity of his previous location. The zombies here were relatively dense, and since the Extraordinary Zombie was dead, it seemed safe for him.
He didn’t change locations and had found the same building as before, because it had a great vantage point from which he could observe the surroundings.
Though mixing in with the zombie crowd was relatively safe, it was like burying one’s head in the sand, like an ostrich.
As soon as he sat down, Su Changxing took out the canned meat from his backpack. He was indeed hungry and thirsty; it was akin to a human craving food. Going without meat for too long made the hunger for flesh grow stronger and was almost addictive.
In that short hour plus, his nails had become sharper and harder, able to easily rip open the tinned iron without a tool.
However, he was quite hygienic and used a small knife to cut the luncheon meat in the can into pieces, then ate them with the knife.
Holding his head with one hand, he speared luncheon meat with the other, swallowing the meat, which sometimes leaked out from his neck and was stuffed back in by him.
An hour later, he could clearly feel his finger joints becoming more agile compared to before, less stiff, and he even felt a slight touch at the fingertips, noticing the roughness of the knife handle.
As the sunlight became stronger, he felt his body sinking into a lazy state, but this didn’t bother him. Instead, he found it quite comfortable.
No wonder most zombies liked to stay on the streets.
So he was a conscious zombie prone to daze when idle, like showing his true nature. Half an hour slipped by, another hour passed unknowingly, and before he knew it, the morning was gone.
Su Changxing lay by the window, basking in the sun. He noticed a large creature flew past in the sky, and blood splattered across the window.
He thought he would soon become an Extraordinary Zombie but the whole morning passed, and the transformation continued, littered with white skin flakes on the floor.
"It seems to have slowed down, and there’s still a long way to go."
Su Changxing felt his neck was still quite unstable, deciding he must speed up the process. With resolve, he took out an Extraordinary Crystal he had scavenged and put it in his mouth, a spicy taste spreading across his tongue.
He could be considered half an Extraordinary Zombie now, probably much more accepted by the Extraordinary Crystal. Eating an Extraordinary Crystal directly shouldn’t be much of a problem.
