Chapter 926 - 273: Target
The Extraordinary Zombie wearing a golden necklace leapt into the vast puncture but suddenly halted, as if facing an unfathomable cliff, turned its head towards Su Changxing, and once again let out a warning growl.
"It stopped, is there something behind it?"
Su Changxing sensed something amiss; it was likely that this zombie had stumbled upon a dead end in its frantic flee, and behind it lurked a creature posing greater threat than Su Changxing.
This forced it to stop and confront Su Changxing.
This zombie was more alert than any Extraordinary Zombies encountered before, recognizing Su Changxing’s superior strength, and immediately fled.
Su Changxing triggered his eye abilities, observing the surroundings, detected no anomalies, and dashed towards the zombie wielding the Silver-White Machete, accumulating the power in his hands to its peak, then unleashed it.
He swung three times consecutively; the first strike sliced off the zombie’s incoming left hand, the second carved a deep gash across its chest, halting its movement, and the third sliced horizontally through its skull at the temple.
An extremely succinct battle, excluding the chase, the fight lasted less than five seconds.
Su Changxing deftly vanquished this Extraordinary Zombie with three decisive strikes.
His ability combined with the Silver-White Machete unleashed astounding combat prowess, and this machete was indeed special, for its blade showed no notch till today.
It certainly wasn’t an ordinary Mysterious Item, its quality must be high, aiding Su Changxing in severing what he originally couldn’t.
Had he wielded a regular machete, presumably he wouldn’t have been able to crack open this zombie’s skull; the skull of an Extraordinary Zombie rivals metal in hardness.
Su Changxing crouched down, retrieved his spoils, and scavenged the zombie’s skull with his hands for the Extraordinary Crystal.
At this moment,
The space around lightly shook, rubble fell overhead as if an earthquake occurred.
He saw an enormous figure appearing over ten meters below, a pitch-black figure, accompanied by a pink-colored silhouette nearby, seemingly human.
Both sides were engaged in a battle, and such vibrations were aftershocks of the conflict.
Su Changxing wiped the Extraordinary Crystal on his clothes then popped it into his mouth, venturing forward, he soon discovered a tremendous deep pit and heard voices.
"Next time you dare stick your head out, I’ll surely kill you! Mark my words!"
A woman’s voice filled with cold, murderous intent.
Apparently, this human was very strong, at least Tier Eight, or they wouldn’t have caused such commotion, seemingly having the upper hand.
To Su Changxing, this was unsurprising, actually expected, as these people seemed deployed here long ago, and the level of Extraordinary here now far exceeds theirs in the past; Tier Eight Extraordinary emerging under the catalyst of the Doomsday Game is not unexpected.
He didn’t press on further, proceeding might get detected, hence turned back the original route, pondering those stronger than these humans should be the Hunters, if they still exist.
Those guys might have existed here for who knows how long, formidable beings emerging wouldn’t be surprising.
In the past experience, cities might be relatively safer, for energy stations mostly are in distant suburbs.
Recalling odd, grotesque scenes at the energy station made his hairs stand involuntarily, hard to imagine what those places have become now.
When he climbed out the manhole cover, the underground tremors ceased, likely indicating the battle has ended.
He surveyed the surroundings, finding only wandering zombies on the street, as by this time, most humans have hidden away to avoid zombies.
By night, zombies grow more powerful, more aggressive.
After swallowing this Extraordinary Crystal, Su Changxing’s neck wound further healed, able to move without tilting his head now.
"At night, it should be easier to find Extraordinary Zombies, right."
Su Changxing mused, not intending to stop, having consumed two Extraordinary Crystals, keenly sensing his strength increasing, with seven or eight more, he might ascend Tier Eight.
Yes, it’s that simply brutal, compared to humans, zombies generally just need to accumulate energy for advancement, at least during the low tier.
...
"Found it, it should be with him, that thing. You’re really careless to let a zombie swipe the item,"
The man wearing a black hood held a telescope, gazing at the distant street mockingly.
The person next to him was someone Su Changxing encountered, who killed his companion over scooping the item.
He is named Feng Sichen, appearing young, ostensibly a university student before the apocalypse, but covertly engaged in hired killings for pay.
He committed murder from his teenage years, killing none other than his gambling, alcoholic father, debt collectors came knocking often, even doors smeared with chicken blood, such stench he recalls vividly.
The murder wasn’t an impulse, he long conceived the notion, following plans to shove his father from the upper floor fatally.
The police investigating later considered this an accident, post-alcohol mishap falling from a height, everybody knew his father was a drunkard, a gambler; such incident didn’t seem unusual.
Despite his father’s death, debt collectors persisted knocking, forcing him into paid assassination.
Meticulous, skilled in Disguise, with no one suspecting a minor would proactively kill, unrelated individuals.
He repeatedly escaped police searches, methods growing more proficient.
Through multiple murders, he amassed substantial wealth, beyond ordinary people’s lifetime earnings.
Someone like him thrives anywhere, even amidst apocalypse, quickly becoming an Extraordinary.
Feng Sichen donned a benign smile, appearing harmless, remarked:
"Who’d suspect a regular zombie to snatch things, besides that woman’s tenacity, even in death dragging the backpack down, what could I do."
"Hmph, troublesome," the man in the black hood remarked irritably.
This was his companion Wei Qi, long-time associate since he murdered his father, colluding in every plotted murder.
Wei Qi continued asking, "So, is this the zombie with the backpack?"
"Probably not, just a regular zombie," Feng Sichen replied decisively without much contemplation, dismissing the notion of a normal zombie quickly evolving into an Extraordinary Zombie.
Perhaps it’s mere coincidence two zombies resembling each other in clothing, appearance, perhaps...
Concluding his sentence, he sensed something off, realizing there couldn’t be so many coincidental events, was this Extraordinary Zombie indeed that former regular zombie?
"I’ll notify them to come over then, let them deal with it," Feng Sichen abruptly changed tones.
Wei Qi frowned, discontented, "Why call them, it’s just an Extraordinary Zombie, we two can handle it, no need for such fuss."
The rusty railings shimmered coldly beneath moonlight, like ice piercing skin; Feng Sichen’s left hand clutched the railing tight, eyes shut, deep breath taken said:
"There’s something off about this zombie, I can sense it, better be cautious, let them try first, better safe than sorry."
Wei Qi nodded after hearing, "Alright, we’ll proceed your way."
He heavily trusted Feng Sichen’s instincts; had it not been Feng Sichen, they’d have been captured by police ages ago.
"Hey, Captain, we found an Extraordinary Zombie here, fairly strong, we’ve got it pinned, hurry over for the kill."
...
Meanwhile.
Su Changxing walking down the street suddenly sensed something unusual, a feeling of being watched, yet couldn’t detect others’ presence, possibly due to significant distance.
Someone had their sights on him, likely human, as only humans employ such methods.
He turned towards an alleyway and ran; the feeling diminished after over a hundred meters, remaining cautious continued running, meandering away from the area.
Observing from afar, Wei Qi was astounded, "He seemed to notice, then ran away..."
He hadn’t anticipated mere glimpses from afar would alert the zombie and prompt immediate departure.
With a solemn expression, he said, "I’ve never seen a zombie so cautious, feels just like a human."
Feng Sichen coldly inquired, "Can you still track him?"
Wei Qi contemplated and responded, "Probably can, up ahead is a restricted area, he can’t proceed further, only return. As long as he isn’t too far, I can find him."
He belonged to the Perception Class of Extraordinary, capable of detecting people or creatures within a region using a telescope.
