Chapter 102 - 82: Friendly Match
Chapter 102: Chapter 82: Friendly Match
On the second day of May, Lin Yu picked 49 Legendary Heroes and 49 Exceptional Heroes from his territory. Then, he brought Yuan Xiaobo and Lin Chenxi through the Peak Arena’s Teleportation Gate to the Cosmic Arena.
For the next month, barring any surprises, one of the three—Meiying, Lin Chenxi, or Yuan Xiaobo—would stay behind in the territory each day.
The other two would go with Lin Yu to the Cosmic Arena.
The Cosmic Arena was a colossal tower that reached the heavens. Each floor was a massive arena, and only by obtaining a ticket or permission in an arena could one proceed to the next floor.
The rewards in the arenas on each floor would progressively increase. It was said that if one could reach the final floor, they would become the God of Competition.
The first floor of the colossal tower was the novice area of the Cosmic Arena. Everyone who entered the Cosmic Arena would first arrive on this floor. After winning a competition, they would receive a reward and qualify to advance to the next floor.
Lin Yu, and all the other lords and their heroes from the Lord Tournament, entered into a corner on this very floor.
The space in this corner was divided into countless sections, with each section assigned to the lords belonging to a continent in the second phase of the Lord Tournament.
The place Lin Yu arrived at through the Teleportation Gate was just such a space—a section in a corner of the Cosmic Arena’s first floor.
Though it sounded small, this small section of space was a full 10,000 square kilometers. As an arena, it was nearly the size of Lin Yu’s own territory.
When Lin Yu and his party emerged from the Teleportation Array, all the nearby lords turned to look at them.
"Who’s that? How did they bring so many people in?"
"Can non-hero units enter? Should I go back and bring a few of my maids in?"
"You’re overthinking it. I already tried. Only heroes can enter. The tournament doesn’t have bugs!"
"That’s so many heroes. Who is that?"
"Don’t know him. Everyone here is from our Cuiwei Star. Does anyone recognize him?"
"Nope, never seen him!"
...
Everyone stared in amazement at Lin Yu and his group. This place was supposed to be accessible only to hero units. Most other lords had only brought two or three subordinates with them.
A few of the more powerful lords might bring a dozen or so heroes.
No one had ever shown up with this many heroes.
Since they were all here, it meant they were all from the same continent—participating lords from Cuiwei Star. Yet, surprisingly, no one knew who Lin Yu was.
(During the rest period after the first phase, Lin Yu had mostly acted alone and had not interacted with any other lords from his group.)
This shrouded Lin Yu and his entourage in an aura of mystery. Seeing such a large group, no one would assume he was weak.
Just then, Li Hua and his group approached from a distance.
Sensing a breathing technique with the same fluctuations as their own, and drawn by the stares of the surrounding crowd, they noticed Lin Yu’s massive group.
When he saw Yuan Xiaobo next to Lin Yu, Li Hua understood that Lin Yu’s group were the heroes from Lin Kong’s territory.
So, he approached with a broad smile. After all, they could be considered partners who had cooperated once before.
"Hey there! You must be Lin Kong’s lord! It’s great to finally meet you!"
"Hello, hello! Lord Li Hua, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Lin Kong has long told me you were an impressive man, but I didn’t expect you to be even more handsome in person."
"Hahaha, Lord Lin Yu, the same goes for you..." Li Hua laughed heartily.
"By the way, where is Lin Kong? Little Brother Lin and I got along quite well."
"Oh, him? He’s back in the territory for some advanced training. His power was a little lacking, so he needs to bolster it."
"Is that so? I thought he was your territory’s dedicated diplomat."
...
"By the way, are you guys heading back already?" Lin Yu asked, puzzled.
"Haha, that’s the good thing about a Human Race territory. As long as you’re willing to add more builders, you can keep shortening the construction time."
"I finished building my arena and came in yesterday. I’ve already done everything I need to do here, so why would I stick around instead of heading back?"
"Brother Lin, seeing as you brought so many heroes, I bet you chose the highest-tier arena, didn’t you!"
"Didn’t you?" Lin Yu blinked. ’The Legendary Tier arena is pretty useful. Everyone got a lot of Gold Coins and points from the Treasure Chests of the God of Wealth in April. Buying a blueprint for a Legendary Tier arena should have been pretty easy.’
"Most people don’t have many heroes in their territories. Even if they built a Legendary Tier Peak Arena, it would be useless. Its biggest use would just be to teleport here to the Cosmic Arena."
"So, of course they bought lower-tier arenas. Those are fast to build, which is why most people came yesterday. Not like you, just showing up with your people now," Li Hua explained.
"Besides, Brother Lin, looking at this huge crowd of subordinates, you probably still have quite a few heroes back in your territory that you didn’t bring, right? At least, some of the heroes I’ve seen before aren’t here. Don’t tell me they were all sacrificed, were they?"
"Hehehe, it’s nothing special. You know how it is with spirits—as long as they can pass their Celestial Tribulation, they can become heroes. That’s why I have a *few* extra heroes in my territory. Their combat power isn’t great, though, so I have to rely on numbers in a fight."
Lin Yu had been about to say these were all the heroes he had, but after hearing Li Hua’s last comment, he knew he couldn’t hide it and decided to be straightforward.
"Still, your territory is the impressive one. A Sword Immortal’s attacks must be powerful, right? Plus all that Magic, one of them is probably worth two of mine. And looking at them, their tiers must be quite high."
Lin Yu gestured toward the heroes standing behind Li Hua.
’Li Hua must have built an Exceptional Tier "Heroic Arena" to be able to bring in more than twenty heroes.’
’When I first met Li Hua in early March, he only had one Sword Immortal and two other heroes.’
’Now, nearly twenty Sword Immortals stood by his side, all dressed in green robes with precious swords at their waists.’
’However, according to the senses of Chenxi beside me, they only had one Mythic Tier Sword Immortal. The rest were Legendary Tier, but that was still a considerable number.’
"Sigh, this brother has had it rough. Sword Immortals are all about aptitude. I poured all of my territory’s resources into this, and this is all the Sword Cultivators I managed to train. As for their strength... well, they can probably take on ten opponents of the same tier. It’s nothing special!"
The moment his Sword Cultivators were mentioned, Li Hua’s face lit up. He complained to Lin Yu about all his hardships, lamenting how difficult it was to train Sword Cultivators, all while taking the opportunity to humbly brag about their strength.
The two chatted for a while longer, sharing their experiences with the "Sun and Moon Breathing Technique" and the "Star Technique," before bidding each other farewell.
"Brother Lin, I’m heading back first. Let’s get together again when we have time. If you go over there, you can get all the information about the competitions." Before leaving, Li Hua pointed the way for Lin Yu, showing him where to get details about the arena.
"Brother Li, thanks! I’ll message you later!"
Lin Yu led his people to the spot Li Hua had pointed out.
It was an information desk, staffed by several beautiful young women and handsome young men. At the moment, they were surrounded by a crowd of lechers.
In the center above the desk was a giant screen, scrolling with basic information about this floor’s arenas.
To the side of the information desk, there was also a dispenser for information cards that could be taken freely. These cards contained detailed records of the various competitions, but since they required the System to be read, only lords could use them.
Lin Yu walked up and took an information card. Lines of information appeared before his eyes, allowing him to quickly understand the competition details for this floor.
Because none of the competitions on this floor resulted in the death of the participants, and because everyone here was new to the Cosmic Arena, they were all classified as Novice Friendly Matches.
Specifically, the friendly matches were divided into four types.
The first was Arena Dueling.
Choose an arena. If there is already a champion on the platform, defeating them allows you to take their place. If the platform has no champion, you can claim it directly.
After becoming a champion, successfully defending the platform—either by winning 100 consecutive matches or by remaining unchallenged for 12 hours—will grant you a voucher to enter the next floor: a "Cosmic Arena Second Floor Ticket" (Exclusive to the Lord Tournament; cannot be used in the first or second phases), as well as 1000 arena points.
Note: Heroes from the same territory cannot challenge each other.
The second was the Grand Melee.
Five hundred heroes of the same tier are gathered to fight in a chaotic battle. The last 10 heroes who are not eliminated advance, receiving a "Cosmic Arena Second Floor Ticket" and 200 arena points.
Winners can then participate in a winners’ melee, with the victors earning 300 arena points.
And so on. For each additional victory, the arena points for the next match increase by 100, continuing until it is no longer possible to gather 500 participants.
Note: A lord can only send one of their heroes to participate in any single Grand Melee.
The third was the Mirror Challenge.
Enter the Mirror Chamber and challenge your own reflection.
The mirror image possesses the same skills, equipment, and combat techniques as the challenger, and can use them proficiently.
Success in this challenge grants "Cosmic Arena Second Floor Teleportation Access," as well as a bonus Golden Arena Chest and 10,000 arena points.
The fourth was the Trial of Slaughter.
Enter the Tower of Slaughter. The tower will continuously spawn monsters to attack the challenger.
The level, tier, and number of monsters will progressively increase until the challenger is defeated or the trial ends in failure.
Surviving 10 waves grants a "Cosmic Arena Second Floor Ticket" and 100 arena points.
After that, an additional 200 points are awarded for every 10 waves cleared (for cumulative totals of 100, 300, 500, 700...).
Upon clearing the 100th wave, you will receive "Cosmic Arena Second Floor Teleportation Access," a bonus Golden Arena Chest, and a grand total of 10,000 arena points.
Note: Arena points can be taken to the exchange counter to be redeemed for rewards.
For the first type, Arena Dueling, you can only claim victory once. After successfully defending a platform, becoming a champion again will yield no further rewards. The second type, the Grand Melee, can be entered an unlimited number of times.
The third and fourth types can also be attempted an unlimited number of times, but likewise, the reward can only be claimed once.
In other words, after you successfully complete the Mirror Challenge once, you will not receive rewards for completing it again.
Similarly, in the Tower of Slaughter, rewards are only given the first time you clear a certain wave of monsters. On subsequent attempts, reaching the same wave will not grant any more rewards.
There was also a difference in the vouchers for entering the second floor. One was a ticket that could only be used during the third phase, while the other was teleportation access that could be used immediately.
However, the difficulty in obtaining the two was vastly different.
Defeating a mirror image—essentially killing yourself—was something most people found extremely difficult to do.
’Lin Yu didn’t know exactly how difficult 100 waves of monsters would be, but comparing it to the Mirror Challenge, which offered the same reward, he was sure it would be no easy feat.’
