Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree

Chapter 107 - 87: Wave 100

Chapter 107: Chapter 87: Wave 100

Wave 41 of the Tower of Slaughter didn’t feature Epic Tier monsters. Instead, it reverted to Excellent Tier wild boars. The boars were now level 20, and there were 20 of them.

All in all, the overall strength of the monsters had actually decreased.

However, starting from Wave 41, a Square Crystal Pillar appeared behind him. The monsters’ target was now the Square Crystal Pillar, not him.

This meant Yuan Xiaobo could no longer rely on his high defense to attack the monsters at will.

He had to constantly keep an eye on the Square Crystal Pillar’s safety. While it wouldn’t shatter from a single touch, it could only withstand 100 hits. Against a fast-attacking enemy, it could be destroyed in a matter of seconds.

It was fine at first. Yuan Xiaobo managed to bludgeon all the monsters to death before they could even get close.

In the later waves, as the number of monsters increased, Yuan Xiaobo’s attack speed wasn’t fast enough. He had to use his own body to block attacks for the Square Crystal Pillar. In the end, he managed to clear Wave 50, though not without a few close calls.

For Wave 51, Yuan Xiaobo once again entered a wasteland, and the monsters that spawned were 10 level 20, Outstanding Tier Wind Serpents.

These Wind Serpents flew in the air, moved with great agility, and could all fire Wind Blades.

By Wave 57, the Square Crystal Pillar behind Yuan Xiaobo was destroyed. Yuan Xiaobo had failed his first Tower of Slaughter trial.

He received 2,500 Arena Points and a "Cosmic Arena Second Floor Ticket."

After being teleported out, a dejected Yuan Xiaobo walked over to Lin Yu’s side.

"It’s alright. You lack area-of-effect and defensive abilities, but you’re still very strong in one-on-one fights. As you can see, so far, you’re the only one in the territory who has completed the mirror image challenge," Lin Yu said, quickly comforting his newly promoted, trusted general.

"My lord, should I learn some area-of-effect abilities? But... I don’t really like magic," Yuan Xiaobo said, sounding lost.

Lin Yu thought for a moment and replied, "No. What you need to do is strengthen your advantages. Combined with your talent, your main task in the future will be battlefield assassinations."

"My lord, I’ll work hard!"

...

Meanwhile, Lin Chenxi was also teleported into the Tower of Slaughter.

The moment she entered, she summoned her most familiar Vicious Poisonous Vines. This was a very special summoning skill that required continuous cultivation.

It shared the same attributes as its summoner and could develop special abilities through cultivation and feeding.

After casting some strengthening buffs on the Vicious Poisonous Vines, Lin Chenxi easily reached Wave 41.

Her arena for Wave 41 was a small island surrounded by a vast sea. The enemies were 100 level 20, Excellent Tier Fishmen.

Similarly, the Fishmen’s target was not her, but the Square Crystal Pillar behind her.

Compared to Yuan Xiaobo, Lin Chenxi had a much easier time dealing with this type of objective-defense wave.

She simply needed to command the vines to wrap tightly around the Square Crystal Pillar, shielding it completely, and then extend some branches from the main body to easily strangle the Fishmen.

In this manner, she effortlessly passed waves 41 through 60.

Upon entering Wave 61, Lin Chenxi finally encountered a problem.

Her arena for Wave 61 was on a Floating Island, surrounded by open sky.

The attacking monsters were Harpies—level 20, Legendary Tier Harpies. The very first wave consisted of 50 of them.

They had no melee attacks whatsoever, staying in the air and launching Fireballs, Wind Blades, lightning bolts, ice cones... all sorts of elemental attacks.

Lin Chenxi wasn’t afraid of these attacks, of course. After her buffs, the Vicious Poisonous Vines had high attack, high defense, and strong regenerative abilities. However, due to its own limitations, it had no ranged attacks. Thus, it could only take a passive beating.

Lin Chenxi herself had ranged attacks—she could use those Elemental Magic Ball attacks too—but she wasn’t proficient with them. Her aim was poor, and it was difficult to hit the Harpies from a distance.

Since she couldn’t eliminate the Harpies, a second wave of 100 Harpies appeared after 10 minutes, followed by a third wave of 150, a fourth... A new batch of Harpies would spawn every 10 minutes.

If nothing changed, Lin Chenxi’s journey would also end after clearing Wave 60.

Inside the Tower of Slaughter, Lin Chenxi faced an increasingly dire situation, yet she remained calm. ’I need to find a way out of this,’ she thought, constantly evaluating her own abilities.

On the Floating Island, many innocent plants were hit by stray AoE attacks and blown to smithereens.

Wounds formed on the vines from the attacks, only to heal again under their powerful life force.

A small red flower, sent flying by an attack, happened to land in one of the vine’s wounds. Its short stem lodged inside, and the next moment, the wound healed over it.

The little red flower wasn’t rejected by the healed wound. Instead, it was as if it were a flower that had grown naturally from the vine, dancing along with its movements. Even when hit, it would only lose a leaf or two, which would then grow back.

Lin Chenxi happened to see this peculiar phenomenon, and inspiration struck.

’Grafting! That’s right, plants can be grafted!’

’And I can take it even further!’

Lin Chenxi took a small pouch from a pocket on her back. It contained seeds of the territory’s defensive plants. Ever since the territory’s defensive plants had started to flower and bear fruit, many Druids had taken to carrying their seeds. In an emergency, they could plant some for defense.

At that moment, Lin Chenxi was still hidden within the vines. She threw the seeds from her hand directly into the vine’s interior.

Then, under her control, the seeds were transported to the surface of the vines.

With an infusion of her Spiritual Energy, boosted by the vines’ life force, and catalyzed by the Growth Technique...

...peculiar plants of all shapes and sizes appeared on the surface of the vines.

They quickly flowered and bore fruit. The fruit fell onto the surface of the vines, where it would soon sprout, grow, flower, and bear fruit once more.

Soon, the entire surface of the vines was covered in defensive plants.

Facing another volley from the Harpies, the vines were no longer defenseless.

Machine Gun Shooters, Ice Shooters, Pea Shooters, cacti, Cat’s Tail Grass, Watermelon Shooters, Corn Shooters... all of the territory’s existing ranged defensive plants appeared on the vines.

The vines instantly transformed into a fountain of projectiles. Countless peas, cactus spines, Cat’s Tail Grass tail-needles, watermelons, corn cobs... shot out toward the surrounding Harpies.

Shrill cries echoed across the sky as the Harpies’ miserable screams became endless.

The defensive plants growing on the vines all received a boost from the vines’ attributes. Compared to the plants grown in the territory, their stats had multiplied by an unknown factor. Even an ordinary Pea Shooter was now firing Pea Bullets that created sonic booms.

The noisy, chaotic sky was cleared in an instant.

After that, Lin Chenxi passed the Harpy trial without any suspense. Even the 500 Harpies of Wave 70 were easily killed by the vines.

Although it took a lot of energy for the vines to have the ranged plants on their body attack, there was also a row of sunflowers on their back. They continuously provided energy to the vines, and as long as they weren’t firing at full power nonstop, they could just barely maintain an energy balance.

Climbing the stairs that had appeared in the center of the Floating Island, Lin Chenxi and her precious vines appeared in a dimly lit space.

The surroundings were empty, save for the faint glow of the Square Crystal Pillar illuminating the area.

As before, Lin Chenxi had the vines surround the Square Crystal Pillar and waited for the monsters to spawn.

Time ticked by, minute by minute. Everything was quiet. There was no sound of wind, no chirping of insects—only dead silence.

Lin Chenxi waited patiently, keeping the vines still. Instead, she took the opportunity to start recovering energy.

Without sunlight, the sunflowers on the vines’ back couldn’t function. They had all withered, leaving behind a pile of seeds that were absorbed into the vines.

In the place where the sunflowers had been, Moonlight Mushrooms now grew. They worked at full capacity, replenishing the vines’ energy.

The space seemed frozen in time. Apart from the flickering light of the Square Crystal Pillar, nothing else moved.

More than an hour passed. Based on the 10-minute-per-wave calculation, 10 waves of monsters should have already appeared by now. Lin Chenxi’s concentration sharpened. ’Whatever the monsters are planning, they should be attacking soon. In another 20 minutes, I’ll automatically win,’ she thought.

Sure enough, it wasn’t long before a gash appeared on the part of the vines touching the ground. Lin Chenxi immediately looked over but couldn’t see any enemies.

SCHWING!

SCHWING!

The sound of sharp blades slicing through the vines rang out.

Yet Lin Chenxi couldn’t find the enemies at all. So, she commanded the plants on the vines to attack the ground around them.

In an instant, dust and smoke filled the air.

Amidst the white haze, Lin Chenxi’s keen eyes noticed that just before the vines were struck, a blurry figure would briefly appear in the surrounding dust. These figures, holding sharp blades, would slash at the vines, retract their weapons, and then vanish without a trace.

However, no matter how she had the plants attack the ground, she couldn’t kill these invisible assailants. They continued to methodically slash at the vines, one cut at a time.

’Are they immune to damage while invisible, like ghosts in a story? Can I only attack them when they materialize?’

As someone who was used to reading books in the library, the thought flashed through Lin Chenxi’s mind. She had no way to verify her theory, but decided to treat it as a last-ditch effort. She prompted some Big-Mouthed Flowers to grow from the part of the vines touching the ground.

And so, a comical scene unfolded.

Just as a blurry figure appeared near the vines and raised its sharp blade to strike...

...the skin of the vine suddenly transformed into a huge mouth, and the blurry figure was swallowed whole.

Feeling an unfamiliar energy appear inside the vines, Lin Chenxi was overjoyed. She immediately converted the entire base of the vines touching the ground into Big-Mouthed Flowers.

The level 20, Legendary Tier Invisible Assassins were in for some bad luck. Their ability granted them immunity to damage while stealthed, only materializing for the instant they attacked. If they were hit while visible, they had to leave the combat state to become invisible again.

Basically, as long as they were careful, they could attack without taking any damage. Who would have thought they would run into a defensive plant like the Big-Mouthed Flower, which reacted so quickly that it swallowed them whole in the very instant they attacked?

After the Big-Mouthed Flowers at the base of the vines had a feast, the Invisible Assassins were completely wiped out.

Lin Chenxi smoothly cleared Wave 80 of the Tower of Slaughter and advanced to Wave 81.

Waves 81 through 90 featured level 30, Legendary Tier Forest Barbarians. They were skilled at Blowing Poison Needles, which were extremely toxic. This would have been troublesome for anyone else, but unfortunately for them, they had run into Lin Chenxi and her vines.

As a Druid, Lin Chenxi was already skilled at dispelling poison. Additionally, her vines were also highly toxic. She simply had the vines devour the barbarians, which even gave her vines’ poison ability a boost.

Waves 91 through 100 featured level 30, Legendary Tier Ancient Tree-men.

Both sides shared similar attributes, so there was no issue of one countering the other. Lin Chenxi engaged them in a head-on clash. After paying the price of her vines being mostly destroyed, she finally passed Wave 100 of the Tower of Slaughter.
