Chapter 477: Chapter 47: Sudden Decisive Battle (2)

"It’s you, that monkey?" Bo Wen wasn’t surprised by the Human Race’s whereabouts, but he was clearly startled upon seeing Yuan Xiaobo.

"That’s right! It’s me. What about it?"

"Doesn’t your army always operate alone and avoid occupying territory? Why are you with them?" the Lion-man demanded loudly.

"What’s wrong with them? We’re from the same territory. Can’t we be together?"

"Besides, haven’t you noticed? We only destroy territories. We don’t leave any guards behind."

"You can just send some troops and take them right back!"

Yuan Xiaobo shouted back. Although he didn’t know why Bo Wen was angry, he offered an explanation out of a sense of camaraderie from having fought each other for so long.

"No, that’s not it. Your army... how is it so different from the rest of theirs?"

"Heh heh, take a guess!"

Bo Wen said no more. Instead, he cast an extremely wide-range Reconnaissance Magic. The magical fluctuations swept rapidly across the battlefield, feeding a great deal of information back to him.

Ignoring the troops that were obviously different from Yuan Xiaobo’s, he sensed an aura similar to Yuan Xiaobo’s emanating from many of the heroes on the opposing side.

It was the advanced aura of an evolved beast, an aura that had left a very deep impression on Bo Wen.

This convinced Bo Wen of Yuan Xiaobo’s claim. His expression turned ugly. He hurried back into the Beastman army, heading for the central command center where the Beastman Lords were gathered.

"My lord, this is bad! The opposing army isn’t a coalition force of the Human Race!"

"What? Are you sure?" Felder Castro, the Lion-man Lord on the main seat, was aghast.

He had heard that a Human Race coalition was hunting down their Beastman Lords. Furthermore, his younger sister had been killed and eliminated from the competition. As the leader of the Beastmen, he had waited until he successfully conquered some Titan Clan People territory before leading his army back to provide reinforcements.

To counter the massive forces of the Human Race, they had gathered the armies of over 100 Beastman Lords to form this elite Beastman army.

But now, having finally encountered the Human Race’s army, they realized that the legendary "human coalition" was no coalition at all—it was merely the army of a single Human Race Lord.

"Every one of their detachments is so powerful. How could they possibly be the army of a single lord?"

"And all those heroes... every one of them is such a high rank."

"And now you’re telling me they all belong to one lord?"

Felder’s expression was grim. If the enemy was truly the army of a single Human Race Lord, that meant the *real* Human Race coalition could attack at any moment.

"Yes, my lord. The hero I spoke with on the other side is the same one who has led his troops against ours before, fighting us to a standstill."

"Among the opposing army, I sensed that many of them carried the same aura he has—the aura of an evolved beast."

"At the very least, this proves they all used the same method to evolve from beasts into humanoid heroes."

"I have only ever seen this method of evolution in Yuan Xiaobo. It’s only possible if they all serve the same lord."

Felder fell silent. He mentally weighed the pros and cons, considering his next move.

"What are the movements of the other nearby Human Race Lords?"

"The nearest Human Race Lord is 50 kilometers away. Our scouts just reported that their army is massing!"

’We’ve been discovered... But that’s to be expected. An army of our size on the march, even with concealment Magic from the Wizards and Priests, was bound to be spotted sooner or later.’

’If the opposing army truly belongs to a single lord, and he was able to hunt down so many of our own lords and force us into hiding... considering his number of troops and heroes, this Human Race Lord must be incredibly powerful.’

’If we can defeat him, we’ll surely receive a reward from the gods. But if the enemy is simply too strong, and even our combined army can’t win, then we will retreat immediately to cut our losses. We’ll scatter, and every man for himself.’

After a brief moment of consideration, Felder decisively gave the order.

"Get into formation! We’re attacking!"

"It would be best if we can crush them!"

"If we can’t break through, retreat immediately and scatter!"

"Yes, sir!"

...

The Beastman army moved swiftly. They rapidly adjusted their formation, pulling back the cannon-fodder legions at the front and moving their elite units from the rear to take their place.

Once loaded with buffs, these elites began a collective charge while their ranged units simultaneously opened fire.

Facing an enemy several times their own number, Lin Yu’s army showed not a trace of fear.

Super Gravity Slimes, Steel-backed Porcupines, and Rock Druids, also covered in buffs, held the front line.

Aside from the ranged attacks fired by the Beastman heroes, the volleys from their regular soldiers were completely negligible.

Of course, the defensive methods of these three units were somewhat different.

The Super Gravity Slimes were like solid rocks that attracted ranged attacks. Any physical projectile passing through their Gravity Fields would be pulled toward them, preventing the attacks from reaching the troops in the rear.

With their physical defense maxed out, the Super Gravity Slimes simply ignored physical attacks. Only Magic could actually damage them.

However, with healing Druids in the rear, such injuries were easily recovered from. Besides, the Beastmen didn’t have many spellcasting units to begin with.

The Steel-backed Porcupines specialized in damage reduction. No matter the attack, its power would be massively reduced before dealing any actual damage to them.

Then, their back-quills would shoot out at the attacking Beastman. Upon striking an enemy and dealing damage, the quills’ lifesteal effect would heal the damage the porcupines had sustained.

As long as their quills dealt enough damage, and as long as they weren’t killed in a single blow, they could function like perpetual motion machines—endlessly tanking hits while counter-attacking the enemy.

The Rock Druids relied on the inherent defenses of the forms they took—for example, a bear’s massive health pool or a turtle’s thick shell.

They also used their own spellcasting abilities. While tanking damage, they could cast powerful defensive shields, heal themselves, or remove negative status effects.

Regardless of the specific method, all three of these units could effectively withstand the Beastmen’s assault.

With support from the rear, they easily weathered the tide of the Beastmen’s ranged attacks, suffering almost no casualties.

Meanwhile, the Elemental Druids in the rear also launched attacks on the charging Beastmen.

A barrage of Magic rained down on the charging Beastmen, felling many of them on their approach.

However, the sheer number of Beastmen was considerable, and the Elemental Druids were Lin Yu’s only ranged unit.

Many elite melee Beastmen still managed to break through and reach Lin Yu’s front line.

The Beastmen were very confident in their elite melee troops. As a race, they were naturally blessed with strong physiques, great strength, and high defense, giving them few rivals in close combat.

At this stage of the game, only Nuclear Crystal Beasts and Titan Race soldiers could stand against them... Humans, at any rate, were no match.

"Brothers, their lines are right ahead! Charge!"

"Kill~"

"KILL!!"

With battle cries erupting from their ranks, the Beastmen accelerated their charge and quickly crashed into Lin Yu’s army.

Unfortunately for them, they were met by Lin Yu’s defensive units, still at full strength, and by the Sharp Claw Druids and Withered Messengers lying in wait.

These soldiers were by no means weaker than the charging Beastman elites; in fact, their ranks were a tier higher than most of the Beastmen.

The moment the two sides clashed, the Beastmen were like waves crashing against a reef, suffering countless casualties.

Seeing this, the Beastmen in the rear roared, their advance becoming a frenzied, even faster charge.

Many Beastmen even entered a berserk state before engaging, their stats soaring as they became impervious to pain.

The pressure on Lin Yu’s melee troops increased dramatically. Fortunately, they were powerful in their own right and held firm against the Beastman onslaught.

"My lord, the enemy’s defense is too strong."

"Even with our troops going berserk, we haven’t broken through their defensive line."

"If we can’t break their defense, we’ll be at a huge disadvantage!"

Felder watched the front line with a grave expression. He nodded and said, "I know. Be patient. Just wait a little longer."

"Just wait!"

Countless Beastmen charged toward Lin Yu’s line, trampling over the bodies of their comrades. In just a few moments, a small mountain of Beastman corpses had piled up in front of Lin Yu’s forces.

Felder sensed the time was right. With a wave of his hand, he had a subordinate relay an order to the Mage Corps: "Do it!"

The next moment, a violent explosion rang out.

RUMMMBLE—

The small mountain of Beastman corpses exploded!
