Global Lords: My Territory Heart Is a World Tree
Chapter 479: Pursuit 2
Felder, fleeing up ahead, saw that the first wave of intercepting soldiers had effectively delayed their pursuers. He immediately had Bo Wen arrange for a second and third wave.
However, Chenxi and her team wiped them all out in advance, having no effect whatsoever on the speed of the main force led by Lin Yu.
Bo Wen observed the situation to their rear and immediately reported to Felder, “My lord, the enemy has dispatched a Hero Squad to sweep up our intercepting soldiers!”
“Sending more ordinary soldiers seems useless at this point!”
Felder watched the pursuers closing in from behind and immediately made new arrangements.
“Send all non-Lion Race heroes to the rear to intercept them!”
“What? My lord, are we to send the brothers Alan Atkinson and Jie Ao Atkinson to intercept as well?”
“Of course! Send everyone out except for the Lion-men!”
…
The brothers, Alan Atkinson and Jie Ao Atkinson, were Hyena-men. They were Legendary-grade heroes whom Felder had been cultivating since the start of the competition.
Upon receiving Felder’s order from Bo Wen, they stopped, along with all the other non-Lion Race heroes.
Bo Wen had also assigned them some Wizards and Heavy Armored Minotaurs for support.
“Brother, it looks like we’re going to die soon!” Jie Ao said, watching the pursuers steadily approach, his outlook on the coming battle incredibly pessimistic.
“Jie Ao, don’t be afraid. Can’t you see their forces are split up?”
“Our orders are to slow the pursuers. As long as we eliminate the Hero Squad they’ve sent ahead, they definitely won’t dare to continue the chase like this.”
“Then, we can just have Bo Wen go back to sending ordinary soldiers to intercept them!”
“With our strength, there’s no way we can’t even beat the Hero Squad they sent out, right?”
Jie Ao cheered up a bit at Alan’s words. He immediately instructed the Wizards to set Magic Traps, while Alan ordered the Heavy Armored Minotaurs to hide in a small grove.
Then, the two of them took the other heroes and hid a good distance away.
…
When Chenxi and her squad arrived before the small grove, she cast a Detection Magic into it. Sensing the feedback from the spell, she ordered her subordinates to attack the grove with Vicious Poisonous Vines.
Countless Vicious Poisonous Vines materialized in the grove, summoned by the Magic. This time, however, the Beastmen lying in ambush were not eliminated as quickly as before.
With the help of the pre-laid Magic Traps, the Heavy Armored Minotaurs in the grove managed to dispose of the summoned Vicious Poisonous Vines, albeit with some difficulty.
‘Hm? These soldiers are pretty strong this time.’
Chenxi had her subordinate heroes halt. She looked at the quiet grove, sensing that the Vicious Poisonous Vines they had summoned had all been destroyed.
‘It seems the Beastman soldiers inside are quite strong!’
“My lady, since summoned creatures aren’t working, let’s just go in ourselves! With our strength, won’t dealing with mere soldiers be a piece of cake?”
“No. The enemy didn’t charge out to attack, which means they must have set traps inside to slow our pursuit. We’ll cast a spell together—use the Fire Rain Technique and burn them out!”
…
Chenxi had her subordinates adjust their positions and, using a combined casting method, unleashed the Fire Rain Technique upon the two small groves.
A torrent of high-temperature Liquid Flame rained down from the sky, and anything it touched immediately burst into flames.
The Beastmen in the grove could no longer hide. They charged out frantically, hoping to attack the enemies who were occupied with casting.
But the range of the fire rain was vast, and it even followed them as they ran. Although these Heavy Armored Minotaurs were much stronger than ordinary Beastman soldiers, they couldn’t withstand being relentlessly burned. None of them managed to escape; they died in the blazing inferno within the grove.
Sensing no signs of life left in the grove, Chenxi began to guide everyone to stop casting and prepare to continue the pursuit.
Just then, two daggers appeared before her, thrusting toward her body at extreme speed.
Chenxi’s eyes widened. With no time for anything else, she instantly severed the link with the others.
Then, enduring the painful backlash of energy wracking her body, she unleashed a green Energy Shield.
The hastily cast Energy Shield was struck by each of the two daggers, then shattered into fragments and vanished.
Chenxi seized the chance to retreat a few steps. She cast a proper Defense Shield, and under its protection, she began using the Sun and Moon Breathing Technique to quickly calm the turbulent energy in her body.
The daggers’ owners were revealed in the air: the brothers Alan Atkinson and Jie Ao Atkinson. Many other Beastman heroes appeared at the same time.
The moment they appeared, they launched an attack on Chenxi and her subordinates. Aside from Chenxi, whose quick reflexes saved her from injury, the others were not so fortunate. All of them sustained injuries of varying severity, and two were unlucky enough to be killed on the spot.
When Chenxi’s squad first began summoning the Vicious Poisonous Vines to attack the Beastmen in the grove, the two brothers had already begun to sneak forward from a distance with their subordinate heroes.
One of the brothers possessed a stealth skill called “Concealed Movement,” and the other a skill called “Suppressed Breath” for hiding one’s aura. By coordinating, they were able to hide both their forms and their presence at the same time.
Its only drawback was that they couldn’t move quickly.
However, even though the two of them had led their heroes over fairly quickly, Chenxi’s side had attacked even faster.
The elite Beastmen in the grove had only blocked one wave of summoned creatures before being wiped out, barely delaying Chenxi and her team at all.
It was fortunate that Chenxi and her team had acted so quickly; had they been ambushed while engaged with an enemy, the losses would have been even more devastating.
Seeing the situation, Chenxi immediately summoned her special, enhanced Vicious Poisonous Vine and fused with it.
After the fusion, the Vicious Poisonous Vine possessed the same attributes as Chenxi. Coupled with the countless defensive plants covering its body, its defensive capability was extremely high.
Like a great serpent, the Vicious Poisonous Vine coiled into a circle, enclosing all the heroes inside and fending off the Beastmen’s attacks.
The brothers Alan and Jie Ao brandished their daggers and leaped onto the vine, attacking both it and the defensive plants growing on it.
They made no attempt to get past the vine and directly attack the heroes it was protecting.
This was because as long as these heroes remained, neither the vine nor Chenxi inside it would flee.
In their eyes, killing every hero protected by the vine was less meaningful than killing Chenxi.
Their agile Body Techniques made it impossible for the Vicious Poisonous Vine to harm them. It could only keep coiling or try to sweep them off with its tail, attempting to knock them away.
Unfortunately, none of it worked.
Under the assault of the brothers Alan and Jie Ao, the vine’s wounds grew steadily worse.
Hidden within the vine, Chenxi continuously cast Healing Magic to treat it.
However, her healing speed alone could not keep up with the rate of damage inflicted by Alan, Jie Ao, and the other Beastman heroes combined.
The protected heroes also had to deal with the Beastman heroes’ ranged attacks. Combined with the internal injuries from forcibly breaking the combined casting, they were essentially unable to provide Chenxi with any help.
“Lady Chenxi, you have to get out of here! Don’t worry about us!”
“My lady, if we die, we die. In a few years, we’ll be back and ready to fight again. But you absolutely cannot let anything happen to you!”
The Druid heroes protected by the Vicious Poisonous Vine all began urging Chenxi to leave.
Chenxi, however, did not reply, merely continuing to guard them in silence.
When Alan and Jie Ao heard the Druid heroes’ shouts, their hearts tightened.
But upon seeing her actions, they joyfully quickened their assault.
To increase their attack efficiency, the two even used their ultimate moves.
A crimson light flickered on their daggers. Every successful strike left a wound on the Vicious Poisonous Vine that was extremely difficult to heal, and green liquid continuously flowed from the gashes.
The wounds inflicted by their daggers carried the negative status effects of “Grievous Wounds” and “Bleeding.”
Chenxi’s reaction was swift. Noticing that her healing spells were less effective, she immediately began weaving a skill with a “Purify” ability in between her healing spells to dispel the negative status effects on the Vicious Poisonous Vine.
However, this also greatly increased the intensity of Chenxi’s spellcasting.
If this continued, Chenxi would soon be unable to hold on.
Seeing that victory was within their grasp, the brothers Alan and Jie Ao attacked faster and faster.
Just then, a gust of wind swept across the small battlefield.
The frenetic battlefield fell silent in an instant.
Only the brothers Alan and Jie Ao, ever vigilant, managed to dodge aside as the wind blew past.
